"Good." I looked over at Allisande, still smiling. "And you? Can you stay?"

With a smile I nodded. "My marque is finished, therefore my time is my own unless my Dowayne has something specific to ask of me."

"And yet you still live in your House?" I asked, leaning forward with interest. "The only adept I met before today could not wait to finish her marque and be free of her House. Is that not the way will all adepts?"

"No more than it is the way of all nobles or peers," I replied. "Some enjoy the work they were trained to in childhood, some wish to move on once they are free. My family has been with Dahlia for generations and I very much love my House as though it were my family and wish to do honor to it. Still, Dahlia is not as restrictive as some of the other Houses and maybe that is why I am content to stay."

"But you have the choice to leave if you wish," I observed, nodding slightly. "It is not so with nobles or royalty, in Ruskovia anyway." I turned my attention to Maeve. "Do you plan to leave Heliotrope when your marque is finished or stay?"

"It is my wish to marry, as many Heliotrope adepts do," I said. "So when my marque is finished, I will live in my House until such a time that the Gods see fit to grant me a husband." I blushed. "I am not sure how to find one, so I will leave it up to destiny."

I thought she would have more luck finding a husband if she went to fetes and events, but then again who was I to give advice in that area?
"Well, I wish you both luck in your plans and desires," I said, smiling to them both.

"What are your plans and desires, Alexei?" I asked him. "If I'm not being too presumptuous by asking."

"You can ask me whatever you wish, and as long as you are not asking for national secrets I shall do my best to answer," I told her, grinning. "As for me, my plans have never been my own. For now, I am here setting up relations with Terra d'Ange."

I thought best not to press the issue further, but a young man like himself should have a lover or wife. But he is not a patron of the Night Court, maybe he is just very caught up in all his work. Still, there must be something he wants for himself.
"I see," I said, "Have you been successful thus far?"

"So far, yes. We have worked out some trade deals that look to be rather beneficial to both sides," I answered.

"That's wonderful," I said. "What else does Terre D'Ange stand to gain, besides more tea?"

"Tea wasn't actually part of the negations so far," I told her, chuckling. "Though soon you will hopefully be seeing Ruskovian glass, jewels, furs and weapons in your markets."
I glanced over at Allisande, she had been quiet during this and I didn't want her to feel neglected.

"Tea would seem to be the least important thing when dealing with so many other profitable businesses," I added. "Most d'Angelines have a taste for the new."

"That bodes well for Ruskovia then," I said with a deep laugh. I noticed the waiter hovering in the background. "Would you ladies like something more or would you prefer to walk?"

"Very good," I said, motioning the waiter over. I handed him some coins, more than enough for all of our selections and a nice tip as well. He thanked me multiple times and hurried off.
Standing, I settled my sword back into place on my hip and smoothed my clothing.
"Shall we?"

"And I as well," I added with a smile as I stood and pushed an escaped tendril of hair behind my ear. "The tea was most gracious of you and you have my thanks."

"You are both quite welcome. Thank you for the company. I am so used to having people around it always feels a bit odd to eat alone."
I held the low gate that led back out to the street open for them to pass through.

With a graceful nod of gratitude that was completely second nature and had been taught to me so long ago I couldn't remember it I walked past, gown moving around my feet, and then turned to look at the Ruskovian lord. "Is there anything in particular you wanted to see today? There are some wonderful sights around the City."

"I was just out getting some air, I'd seen enough of the inside of the palace. I would love to see anything worth seeing," I said, smiling.

"Yes," I agreed, "I have seen very little of this city myself; I have never had many friends to see it with. Where do you suggest, Allisande?"

From my numerous wanderings of the City I knew a few interesting places that peaked my interest- if nothing else it would give us all something to speak of while we wandered and I played at being a tour guide. "Would you prefer to see parks and monuments, shops, places of historical interest, the Doorstep- or someplace else? I know how to find almost anything."

"There's one very close that is a statue of Azza," I told them as I began to walk. "It's very nice and you can see the pride in every line of it."
