I leaned down close to her, so I could whisper conspiratorially in her ear.
"We should probably plan our next destination before we leave, so as not to wander about and risk being caught. Where shall we head?"

"There is a candle maker, three street lengths southwest from here." I murmured back, liking the feel of his breath caressing my neck. "It's where I was originally headed. But we can always duck in somewhere else along the way, if they find our trail."

"Perfect," I breathed, letting my lips brush her ear as I stood and offered her my arm.

I smiled almost shyly at the touch of his lips, and slid my arm into his. We left the sweet smells behind as we returned to the street and began to head to the candle makers. "So what brings you out here on such a lovely day?"

"I am freshly back from near exile out in Kusheth and I had to come and fill my veins with the lifeblood of the City," I answered as we strolled. "And you?"

"It was too nice of a day to spend inside, and when my Second found out, she asked me to run an errand." I replied with a smile. "And the day just keeps getting better."

"It is a lovely day, isn't it?" I said, looking around.
"But then again, it got much lovelier when I ran into you," I told her, grinning.

"You are quite the charmer my lord Shahrizai." I told him with a tease, pleasure from his compliment nevertheless painting my cheeks with a hint of rose. "Thank you."

"Just Gabriel, please. This is too nice a day to burden with titles," I said, smiling and letting my fingers caress her arm. "So tell me, how goes life in the Night Court?"

"Much like always." I replied, then corrected myself. The caresses were a bit distracting. "If a bit quiet. I think patrons might be saving their ducats for the L'Envers wedding."

"Wedding?" I asked, raking my brain to think of which L'Envers it could be. "Who's getting married?"

"Elliot. He's marrying Caraf nó Heliotrope. Her Dowayne is supposedly bursting with pride." I hoped he didn't ask where I got the last tidbit from. I wouldn't be able to give him an honest answer.

"I can imagine," I said, as my mind whirled with the implications. "That's quite a boon for a House to have an adept become a Duchess."
"What of his sister, Evangeline?"

"She will loose her title." I replied with a shrug, my expression indicating that I sympathized with her plight. "The entire City seems to know how happy it has made her."

"The bride to be must be living in terror," I said with a chuckle. Evangeline's temper was legendary. "Poor thing."
"Are you contracted for the wedding?" I asked.

I sighed deeply. "Would that I was invited," I said regretfully. "I would march you straight back to Cereus and lay claim to your delightful company."
While flirting yes, it was true. She was wonderful company and seemed full of all the lovely information I craved, who better to pass such an event with?

Damn.
"You're too kind, Gabriel." I told him with a smile. I believed he would have. "And the bride and groom obviously don't know what they are missing."

I laughed deeply, smiling down at her and drawing her a little closer to me as we walked.
"They probably weren't expecting me back here, it's only been but a breath of time. if somehow I should wrangle an invitation, you will be my next stop though."

I smiled with pleasure at the thought. Charming, handsome, what girl wouldn't? "Then I wish you the best of luck with your wranglings. But tell me about Kusheth. I haven't visited since I was very young."

"It's lovely, in truth," I said, smiling as memories flooded my mind. "I was just in the wrong household. What were you doing visiting Kusheth?"

"My father thought it would be nice to travel, for his children to see the sights of Terre D'Ange." I smiled at the few memories I had. "I remember chasing seagulls on the beach, but not much else."

"The beaches are wonderful," I said with a wistful sigh. A year in Kusheth and I'd not got to see the sea, it really had been a prison.
"Have you traveled much elsewhere?"

"Just around the country. We spent quite a bit of time wandering Namarre, since it was all so close to home." I smiled wistfully. "I've never left Terre D'Ange though. You?"

"No," I answered, shaking my head slightly. "In fact, I am less traveled than you, just Kusheth and the City for me mostly."
I smiled at her, fingers caressing her arm again.
"I wonder if you have more experience than me in everything?"

"You're one to talk about lovely smiles," I said, bring my free hand up to lightly touch her lips. "You could light up a room without a thought."

My lips curved up at his touch. I couldn't help myself. Whenever someone commented on my smile, I had to smile. "I could certainly try. But there is much beauty in the City." I replied modestly.

"There is," I agreed, nodding slightly. "And yet amidst it all, some still stand out like a candle in the darkness."
My fingertips caressed her lips oh so lightly as my hand dropped back down to my side.

Oh he was charming indeed. I felt my cheeks shade a brighter pink with the reinforced compliment, and I smiled in pleasure. It was, after all, one of the highest one could receive as a Cereus. For our beauty was not known to last long.
"You shall make me truly shine with confidence." I replied, my fingers caressing his arm in thanks.
