"Deal." I told her with a laugh. "Any mysteries I should attempt to explain right now?" I asked with an irreverent grin.

“Not right now,” I replied with a quirky, mysterious smile. “But with the kind of life I’ve had so far, I’m certain your advice will be a prized necessity, very soon,” I added a little more seriously.

"I will do my best in the future then." I promised with an easy smile. "Might I pry, or would you rather not speak of it?"

I was tempted. I was so tempted to tell Christophe of my nights of madness with a marqued adept - and of how afraid I was, and how strange it felt. I always wore my heart on my sleeve, that was me. It got me in trouble, and it got me hurt, and I was worried. I worried that giving it voice would change the way I saw things. I worried that I would get hurt. I worried, I worried. Besides, talking of it would only make it all more real, and I wasn't quite ready for that.
"I'm not ready yet," I replied quietly. "Sometimes it's best to let things simmer, before they are shared with friends..."

I put a companionable arm around her, squeezing her shoulder gently. "Fair enough. Come find me if or when you'd like to talk."

"I will, it's a promise," I replied quietly. I glanced at him from the side, and gave him a quirky look. "At Mala's right?"

"Yes, I've moved in with her." I replied. She had given me an odd look, but I didn't know what to do with it, so I didn't say anything.

I chuckled. "I figured," I said with an amused grin. "How is it, living outside of your house?"
That wasn't a heedless question at all... with all the discussions Edwyn and I had of leaving, not leaving our houses, and what not, and even if ultimately it may lead no-where, I was rather curious of Christophe's feedback on the matter.

"It's... different. I hadn't realized how much I was surrounded by people." I didn't speak of how I missed them. I had lots of practice missing family. "I've been made to promise to return every once in a while, to practice sparring with some of my Housemates."

"That's great," I replied with a gentle smile. "You still have a family in the Night Court, then." I paused, considering what he'd said. "I didn't know there was sparring at Valerian..."

I smiled. "Yes, I was teaching it when we didn't have more competent instructors. But they usually only taught us for about a season before moving on."

“Ah, that’s interesting. We never had such teachings at Heliotrope. Then again, I’d likely cut my toe off if I tried,” I said with a soft chuckle.

I chuckled with her. "A blade was put into my hand when I was six. Well, a blunt one anyway." I told her. "My family were all soldiers."

“I understand. You’re from Camlach, then?” I asked, and I was already chuckling at myself. What a stereotype it was. And then it occurred to me… a soldier at Valerian? He must have had a difficult time with the family trade if he enjoyed pain. I chose not to comment on it – that belonged to Christophe, entirely. Besides, I was a strange bird myself.

I laughed. "Was it the hair, the eyes, or the admission that my family were soldiers?" I asked with a chuckle. I didn't mind. I was proud of where I came from, if not the ignorance that was perpetrated in the villages there.

"I'll admit it was your admission," I replied good-naturedly. "I've not frayed much with Camaellines - and so it wasn't evident to me." I shuddered a little, and added, "Brrrr... they say it's cold where you come from."

I chuckled. "We do have a colder climate up there. It just makes us strong and warmblooded." I told her with a tease. "But the mountains are beautiful in the winter."

"I've never seen the mountains," I observed contemplatively, letting my mind wander a little. "Your memories are vivid, then?"

"I was old enough for some things to stick very well. Other things, I didn't realize I knew until I returned." I replied, voice soft with memory.

The experience had been anything but wonderful. But I didn't want to bring the mood down. And I didn't really want to talk about it either. "Long enough. I went in the autumn, when all the trees were changing."

The subtlest little something about his demeanor told me I’d put the finger on something I should not have, not unlike last time we’d spoken, in fact. But the same way he respected my desire for intimacy earlier, the same way, I kept my demeanor the same, smiling pleasantly. “The colors of the fall must be beautiful up there…” I said dreamily. I shook off my reverie, and more practically, I said, “It sounds very different from Marsilikos. It’s the only place I remember, aside from the City of Elua… Another white citadel, with the scent of the sea and the cries of the dockers…”

I smiled, relieved that the conversation had moved on. "I've never seen the sea, nor smelt it."

“Well…” I paused, smiling as I summoned memories. “I remember blue waters so deeply blue they make painters weep, and waves with white beards that reminded me of snow, or what I thought it may look like. It smelled of salt, and fish, and lavender, if you were on the bay’s top. Its song is something soothing and motherly – even if the sea is not always as such.”

"Not that we've discussed, but I was going to ask if she wanted to visit her home in Kusheth. So perhaps I'll see the ocean on the other side of our land instead of at Marsilikos." I said with a smile. We passed the shortcut that led to Valerian. I wanted to see her home first.

"Kusheth..." I thought a moment. "The land of the Shahrizai... they do have the most fascinating eyes... I like to imagine Kusheline waters are of that color, but that's likely just my fanciful spirit. They say it is a place of harsh rocks and a land of horses," I said dreamily. "I hope she accepts - you will tell me all about the ocean there, if you go, won't you?"

I listened to her near ramble with a smile. I wondered who she had met that fasinated her so with their eyes. "Of course." I promised. "If you don't make it there first."

"To Kusheth?" I asked, a little wide-eyed. "Why would I go to Kusheth?"
The thought had never even occurred to me - that was rather amusing.
