I felt a flush of pleasure at her compliment.
“Thank you,” I said, grinning as I met her gaze for a moment and then heading off to the bar to place our orders.

I watched him walk away for a moment, wondering silently what he was thinking. Picking up the book, I placed it on the table infront of me and mentally checked my posture, clothing and hair, trying to keep myself pristine.

At the bar I ordered her tea, a mug of ale for me – I felt the need for something a bit stronger – and two bowls of soup, which today happened to be lentils and beef dumplings. While the tray was filled, I paid and then carefully carried the full tray back to the table. I tried very hard not to spill anything.
Setting the tray on the table, I sighed with relief. “Wasn’t sure I was going to make it.”

When I heard a noise to my right I turned and looked, a smile immediately crossing my face at seeing Teo. "I would have been more than happy to have helped you," I said as I pushed back any items that might have been in his way. "Oh, this smells divine," I said, my voice holding a little coo.

“While probably wiser, asking for help seemed less manly,” I said with a laugh. “I hope it’s as good as it smells, the soup is lentil with beef dumplings.”

I laughed softly, gingerly taking my tea off the tray to sip at it. "I imagine it'll taste wonderful if it's half as good as it smells," I reassured him, happy to see he was having some as well. "Do you need any help with anything?"

I set my ale aside and then picked up the two bowls of soup. “If you could just move the tray I think we’ll be set,” I said, smiling.

"Oh, of course," I said, taking the tray and setting it on the chair next to me. I moved my book, too, just in case any soup spilled.

Carefully I set the bowls down, each already had a spoon in it that clinked slightly as they met the table.
“There, all set and still feeling manly,” I said with a chuckle as I took the seat across from her.

I smiled in amusement as he sat, taking up my spook and stirring it idly. "I've never had this kind before," I said. "Have you?"

“No,” I replied, gathering a spoonful. “But I like beef and am very fond of lentils, so I’m hoping it’s good.” I gave her a grin, again struck by how beautiful she was. “Shall I go first in case the smell is the best part of it?”

I laughed again, looking at him with mirthful eyes. "That sounds like a definite plan to me," I replied as I grinned. "Maybe we can look at it as if you would be saving me from an awful exprience if it proves to be bad. Adding to your manliness, of course," I said, watching him happily.

“For your protection, I venture into the wilds,” I said with a smile before tasting the soup, more careful of its heat than taste. Both however were perfect. “Oh, it’s delicious.”

I chuckled, then smiled warmly as he spoke of how it tasted. "Thank you very much - you might have saved me a horrible experience. Now I believe I owe you a boon," I added, grinning a little as I began to eat my own soup.

Fortunately I had swallowed my next bite so I didn’t choke on it as she grinned at me.
“No boon necessary, I was more than happy to risk it to save you from a possibly awful experience,” I replied, then took a long drink of ale.

I looked up at him over the rim of his glass of ale, unsure how to respond to him. Instead I took another careful, measured bite, enjoying the flavor more and more as I continued eating. "That's very noble of you," I complimented, though mindful too that Teo didn't seem the sort who needed nor respected flowered words. "This is a very lovely tavern. Did you happen to catch the name of it?"

My brow furrowed and I glanced around, hoping for a clue. “No, i missed the name somehow.” Because I was distracted by you and fighting my desire to caress your skin. “We’ll have to look on the way out.”

"Alright," I responded lightly. "The stonework of the building was very pretty; I'm sure someone would know by description incase we forget to look again."
Idle chatter, and I felt a little foolish for saying it, but I wasn't sure what else to fill the void with. Instead of saying more pointless things, I took another bite of my soup, careful not to spill and slop it on my face, or back in the bowl.

Even the way she ate was a study in grace and I had focus on my own food to keep from staring.
“Do you get to do this a lot?” I asked after a few more bites. “Go out alone in the city I mean. I was always under the impression the Night Court was a bit more restrictive.”

"I don't do it often, no," I replied with a smile after I'd dabbed at my mouth with my napkin. "They'll let their adepts that they can trust to go out alone."
He was so handsome. It struck me again as I was talking, and my words fumbled a little at the end. Nice, and courteous too - I had no doubts whenever I read my new book I would think of him, and the idea made my smile grow.

I was looking at her as she began to smile more.
“What?” I asked, wondering what had caused the growth, not that I minded a bit. In fact my own smile responded in kind.

I couldn't help it - my smile grew a little more before I dropped my gaze and my head some, unable to stem it for the moment. "Oh, it's nothing," I said, peeking back up at him before raising my head. "I was only thinking, every time I read my new book, I'd think of you and your generosity."
Well, his generosity as well, but more of the color of his eyes and the way his hair fell over his forehead. He was really very handsome.

My skin warmed with reaction to her words and it took me more than a moment to gather myself to reply.
“I’m very glad you like it,” I said, smiling to match hers. “I shall certainly think of you when I read my book.”

"I like the thought of that very much," I said gently, though I didn't take my eyes from him. The way he was looking at me right now... I didn't want ot miss a moment of it. "I truly do hope you enjoy it as much as I have. The author is a bit different, but very knowledgable and interesting."

“I will enjoy it just because it reminds me of you,” I said before I realized what I was saying.
Then, I did blush, enough I was sure it could be seen even with the tint of my skin.
“Oh gods,” I fumbled, unable to look at her now. “I’m sorry… that was so rude… please forgive me.”

His words caught me by complete and total surprise, and the only thing that could possibly have enhanced them was the color in his cheeks that followed. How sincere, I thought, my smile growing and softening all at the same time.
"No... it wasn't rude at all," I reassured him, trying to quell the thrill that raced up my spine. "I feel the same way as you, honestly... I just couldn't bring myself to admit it."
I blushed too, but I smiled anyway, my eyes looking over his face.

I looked up then, seeing the truth in her eyes and the lovely blush on her cheeks. The panic inside me quelled, I couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Well, it seems I’m making a habit of doing things first to pave the way for you,” I said with a grin.

"That's not a bad thing," I teased lightly, my teeth showing as my smile grew. "In fact, I rather like this stance.. You test the waters, I follow in your wake..."
I was teasing him, but it felt good, like some tension that was there before was gone now.

“I shall have to practice my manly water testing so as not to let you come to harm,” I replied, grinning.

I laughed, setting my spoon down in favor of my mug of tea. "I'm finding I like you more and more, Teo," I said almost as if it were a tease, but I meant it.
