I had grown restless at the manner, and the masque and proved less then exciting so I had ridden into town and began to wander after turning my horse over. Dressed in deep green I walked with my hands clasped behind me looking at the wares.

I was out in the market, looking for little presents to give to the children in my care. Some of them were getting so big, they would be too old to be amused by a little doll or thimble. I stopped at the same stall of little glass figurines I had been to before. These will be perfect, I thought.

I had stopped at a cart and began to look at some figuringes and noticed young girl examining some.
"Those are lovely no?" I asked smiling politely.

I looked up from the table at the handsome lord. Curtseying slightly, I said, "They are. I always have trouble deciding which ones to buy when I come."

I nodded picking up one an examing it. There was quite charming, but I had not real use for them honestly.
"I couldn't help you," I said placing it back down. "I don't really have an eye for those sorts of things."

I'd been so wrapped up in the preparations for the Masque, arranging my home here and the general chaos of the City and its happenings that I'd not yet managed to find time to gather an assortment of gifts for my little brother Laurel. A set of carved wooden animals marbles- he was still so easy to please and I knew I should relish it before his tastes got more picky, so I was wandering Mont Nuit with a pretty specific idea in mind.
A set of small glass animals caught my eye- and tugged a little on my heartstrings with their delicate cuteness and I stopped at a stall to look them over, stepping around a talking pair with a polite but soft, "Excuse me."

I smiled at the you lady and inclined my head properly.
"Not at all." I replied smiling and looked back to the adept.

"It's all right," I said politely to the young Lady. To the Lord, I said, "They are not for me. They are for the children of Heliotrope House."

"Thank you," I replied with a smile, reaching out and picking up a figurine of a peacock. Definitely it wouldn't suit Laurel but for me- well, I did have a few shelves to fill. "My little brother prefers wooden toys- they don't break as easily as glass," I offered softly.

I nodded to both women.
"I've never really spent any time with children." I replied shrugging slightly. "I couldn't help you in the least."

"It's alright," I said again.
To the lady, I said, "The glass ones are for the older children. The younger ones get wood or little dolls."
Clapping a hand to my mouth, I introduced myself. "I am sorry. My name is Maeve no' Helitrope."

"My lord," I addressed him quietly, curtseying low, but making eye contact. It had been a while since my last male patron, and he was quite handsome. "The pleasure is mine."

"It's good to meet you both, Maeve, my lord de Warrene," I replied politely and with a smile. There was no use giving just my first name, as it would no doubt be recognized- my status tended to guarantee it, thus why I avoided attention unless it was rude to. "I'm Lessandrie de Mereliot. Have you considered skipping ropes for the older children?"

I curtseyed to the lady, then said, "I had not. What a wonderful idea for the children who are more inclined to run around and play."
Politely I asked, "Do you know a stall that sells them?"

I turned my head to the girl, this was the Lay of Marsilikos, how young. Wanting to shake my head at the age of her and the loss of her mother, instead in nodded.
"That seems like a good idea." I said noticing that she never gave her title.

At hearing the adept's question I shook my head. "I haven't been in the City very long and have little time to look about with my duties- really, I have no idea, I just know that I enjoyed such things as a child." Brys probably realized who I was but kept silent and I had to keep myself from giving a sigh of relief. Really, it wasn't that I was hiding who I was, I just didn't feel like having people bow all over me at the moment. It happened enough at events when I was announced.

He wasn't very eloquent, this Duc, but then again, neither was I. "Would you like to come with me?" I asked them. "Unless of course, you have other business to attend to."

"I have to look around anyway to find some gifts for my brother so I'll come if you don't mind," I said with a smile, becoming more confident. "The things I'm looking for are easy enough to find once I locate the correct stall."

I stopped at a stall laden with little children's toys, tops and the like. "Excuse me," I asked the vendor. "Would you happen to have any skipping ropes?"
"Aye, miss," he said, producing many brightly colored ones from behind him and laying them out for me to examine.
"How perfect," I breathed. "My lady, you were so right."

"Alright." I said with a bit of hesitation. "Only if you two skip with me."
