At the end of the third day of our journey, the horizon changed. Ahead, the walled city awaited us. We dismounted and broke to a walk, and I followed Jonas into the center of Terre D’Ange.
Elua! All I had expected a more stimulating sight that I would have been mad. The city was bustling in colors and people. I marveled as I saw the fruits merchants calling out their goods, “Pears, apples, peaches! Will you have one, my good lad?” a red, chubby faced lady handed me a peach and I barely had time to thank her as Jonas slipped her some coin and spirited me onwards.
On the corner of the next street, a young girl was selling some flowers, and I stopped to smell the wonderful fragrances of roses, hyacinths and violets. Again, Jonas came back, grabbed my hand. He scolded me like a child “Julie, if you stop at every corner, we will never make it!”
But 2 minutes later, I was gazing in wonder at a window shop where they were selling foods I had never heard of. Jonas stopped by me again. We must have been a strange sight to the shop keeper, a warrior and a young apprentice, 2 horses in tow, staring in the window. Through the door, I smelled spices and scents unknown and as I reluctantly followed Jonas away. I turned my head and read the name of the shop “Shahrizai and sons”. I must go back and see what these wondrous scents are about, I mused to myself.
Again, a bit later, I stopped us in front of a restaurant “Desir” and Jonas impatiently grabbed my hand. I noticed further off an Inn, “the Cockeral” and enthusiastically pulled Jonas towards it. Absently, I handed Freya’s harness to the stable boy, and entered the Inn, with Jonas in tow.
