I flushed. "I want to run the estate someday," I said, "And I want to teach. And study in Tiberium in a few years. But mostly run the estate. I don't want an exciting life, or a life of affairs and scandal. I want to be settled."

The things she wanted didn't exactly sound settled to me, but truly who was I to judge on such matters?
"So you want a husband who will live on your estate, not one with property of his own?" I asked curiously.

"I would hope he would want to live on the estate, property or no," I replied, surprised. "I wouldn't force him, but the estate is my home, and I want to raise a family there the way I was raised."

"It all depends on the man, but he may feel the same about his own home if he has rights to it," I observed. I also knew that many men would look on Avive's estate as her dowry and something to add to their own coffer. "We are putting the cart before the horse though, things can always be worked out with the right person."

"I have to meet someone first," I said, laughing, but it was more of a cough. I didn't feel particularly attractive or lovely. In fact, I felt downright ordinary.
Wanting to change the subject to something a bit lighter, I asked him, "Where do you think we'll go shopping tomorrow?"

Smiling, and enjoying the feel of being able to say what I was going to say in response to her question, I answered, "Well, I have been thinking and I want to make sure that you have absolutely the best, so I was thinking instead of shopping, we would go to Eglantine and I would commission an entire wardrobe for you. If you think that might suit."

I gaped at him, nearly choking on my mouthful of vegetables. "My cousin will have his jest," I managed to gasp out.

"I don't jest," I told her honestly, though grinning. "I want you to have a wardrobe perfectly suited to you, not just something in the latest of fashions. Tomorrow we will go to Eglantine and commission it. Though we can stop at one of the shops and find you a few things to hold you until your new wardrobe is complete, having things made to order is never quick but it is always best."

"Elua!" I exclaimed. "What a city this is!"

I chuckled, happy to be able to spoil a family member so. It would be pricey, but worth every coin. I wanted Avive's time in the City to be magical and hold memories that would last her lifetime.
"So this plan meets with your approval?" I teased, grinning still.

"Approval? Cousin, I could become Queen of the world and I wouldn't be as happy as I am now," I said happily.

Reaching over, I squeezed her hand. "It is my pleasure. I want to make this whole experience as amazing as possible for you."

"You're doing a wonderful job," I breathed, then joked, "That woman who you won't tell me about is lucky to have you." I gave him a silly, knowing look.

Laughing, I leaned back in my chair.
"Thank you," I replied. "And you will meet her I'm sure before you head back home."

"So there is someone!" I cried. "Who is she? What is she like? Is she prettier than me?" I joked.

"You're not jealous are you?" I teased, winking at her.

"Never," I said, "I'm the one being spoiled right now." I grinned. I was surprised at myself. I was usually so demure, so serious, and I was grateful to Alain for being able to bring me out of my shell.

"Is it really spoiling when you deserve it?" I asked, trying to sound philosophical.
Chuckling, I stood up.
"You'll have to forgive me again, but I have some matters that must be seen to tonight, especially if we are going to be out all day tomorrow. Do you think you'll be alright for the rest of the evening?"

"Yes," I said. "I think I will unpack and do the reading I meant to do. I will see you in the morning." I rose and went to kiss his cheek. "Good night, Cousin. And thank you for everything."

"Goodnight," I said, kissing her cheek. "Don't be afraid to ask me or Bonnie for anything you might need. I will see you in the morning."
With a smile, I headed back to my office, determined to tackle the things I needed to do so that they would not be hanging over my head tomorrow when I wanted to focus on Avive.

I slowly made my way up to my bedroom, taking everything about this wonderful house in. Back in my room, I unpacked quickly, placing my garments in the wardrobe and my effects on the vanity. Tucking my books onto the bottom book of the shelf, I left my Tanach and journal on the bed. Sitting at the desk, I lit a candle and began to write.
Well, Diary, it looks like I will very much like my new home...
