"I want to learn," I answered rapidly. "Science, mathematics, agriculture, language, everything there is to know, I want to know it."
I rapidly ticked off my desires on my fingers. "Horse-riding, that's another. I've never ridden a horse before. Painting, I would love to be a passable artist. A fete! The biggest fete I've ever been to was the one my father held one year for my birthday. Everyone I knew was invited..." I laughed at myself, "All twenty of us."
I grew solemn for a moment. "Cousin, it is not my father who is demanding I find a husband. Father never forces me to do anything. It is I who want to be courted, to fall in love, and to raise a family."

I laughed at her enthusiasm.
"Good, I would hate to think you an unhappy guest from the start. Some of the things you listed I can help with, the horseback riding and the fete for certain. The studies we will see what we can do… as for painting, perhaps an adept from Eglantine to tutor you."

"Oh, good," I said, smiling.
"There is...one more thing," I said. "The Night Court...anybody may visit?" I blushed deeply.

Her question made me smile, I had been wondering how blunt she would be on this subject. "Yes, anyone may visit. Anyone over sixteen may enter into a contract for an assignation," I said, keeping my tone informational only.

"Have you been, Cousin?" I asked curiously.

"Several times," I told her. "To most of the various Houses at least once."

"Which one is best?" I asked. "Forgive my curiousity, but all I know is what I've read about."

"Which one is best all depends on the individual, and you can feel free to ask me whatever you like."
I noticed the kitchen was getting busier.
"Perhaps we should get out of their way and move to the parlor?" I suggested, standing up.

"Of course," I said, rising. "Lead on."

I led her back down the hall to the parlor, motioning for her to sit where she liked.
"Back to the Night Court," I said, smiling. "Each House has it's own unique feel. Some people patronize one House exclusively, others like me visit several. For me it depends on my mood and what I am seeking from the adept."
I settled into a chair. "Are you just curious or would you like to become a patron?"

I sat on a loveseat across from him and frowned. "Love is an art," I said. "What better place to learn?" I laughed dryly. "It's all for the sake of knowledge...all of it."
I put my head in my hands. "Have you ever been in love, Cousin?"

The image of Cybane bloomed in front of me, as clear as if she was standing there.
"Yes," I answered, my voice steady. "But being in love, and the act of love are two very different things. The Night Court is the place to learn about the act, the emotions may sty hidden for years. Have you ever been in love?"

I laughed dryly. "I could never love any man from home," I said, "Cleverness, education, these are things you find in a city, not in the backcountry of Siovale." I sombered. "I sound like a pompous ass, don't I?"

"A little," I told her honestly, though smiling to make sure she knew it wasn't said with menace. "Do you think me clever and/or educated?"

"You're the duc," I said. "You probably wouldnt be a good duc if you were neither of those things."

"I am a Duc because of who I was born to, not because of anything else. All of my schooling happened in Siovale, I have only been in the City for less than a total of two years in my entire life. Don't be so certain that what you seek will only come in the form of a person from the City," I said, smiling at her clever evasion of my question. "And I haven't been a Duc for all that long, whether I will be good at it or not is still to be seen."

I frowned at him. "But you're not stupid," I commented. "If you were, you would not be nearly as articulate as you are." I smiled. "Besides, you're my cousin. I would like to think intelligence runs in the family."
I sighed. "But no, I have yet to experience love, in any form."

I put my feet up on a padded stool and crossed my ankles.
"Well, the City is a good place to learn about the physical form as well as become exposed to the possibilities of the emotional form."
Tilting my head a little, I asked her, "Are there any of the Houses that interest you for engaging an adept?"

I pondered this. "Alyssum, I suppose," I said, "Or Dahlia. Someone gentle, but strong and kind. Someone intelligent." I emphasized this. "Someone I can talk to, not only patronize."

"From my experience, intelligence can be found in all the Houses, just depends on the adept. Alyssum will be kind, but they do tend to take more effort to draw into conversation. I think any of the Houses would fill your request except for Mandrake, they do no tend to be kind to their patrons," I said with a chuckle. "Male or female? How soon are you wanting to make this visit happen?"

"I should think male," I said. "And soon, but not tomorrow." I chuckled. "Tomorrow we are shopping."
"Cousin," I said, "I charge you to pick a House for me. I trust your judgement."

"Oh no, this is something you shall have to pick for yourself. We can always visit a few and let you talk to some of the adepts, see if anyone strikes your fancy. Until then, we can shop and look after your other requests," I told her, grinning.

"Cousin, please," I begged, "Just the first one. I..." I coughed. "I want to be surprised, however pleasently."

Rolling my eyes slightly, I laughed and relented. "Alright, alright.. I will see what I can arrange. Is there anything special I should look for? I don't usually go looking for male adepts. Do you like blondes? Brunettes? Blues eyes?"

"Tall and a nice smile." I nodded, knowing I must have a bemused look on my face. I had no interest at all in men sexually, so trying to find one for Avive might be difficult. Perhaps I could get Cybane to help me. "I shall do my best, you have my word."

I looked at him slyly. "So...who is she?"

"The woman on your mind," I said. "When you were talking about love, your face changed. You looked like you had just seen the most beautiful thing you had ever seen in your life."

"You're right, that's exactly what I saw at that moment," I told her, smiling and avoiding her question. "So, tell me about your father, how is he doing? How are things at your home?"
