Upon my arrival in the City of Elua, I'd been delighted to hear of a Beltane fete being held by the Queen. What a golden opportunity to make my debut as a courtier; I would need to look the part. I had my carriage drop me off in the clothier's district of Mont Nuit, with instructions to return in an hour and a half. Clad in a floral gown with lace about the neckline, I began to window-shop.

Not only was I looking for a marvelous gown for the Midsummer fair I wanted to add a few more items to my wardrobe. So, with my carriage dropping me off in the middle of the Clothier's District I made my way to my favorite shoppe in all of Terre d'Ange. And, so intent was I on my destination I walked right into someone gazing in a window.
"Oh, I beg your pardon!" I said, noticing the woman's lovely floral print gown, "I apologize for my carelessness, I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings."

Little dolt. I put on my best and brightest smile and flashed it at the woman. "Oh, that's perfectly all right," I said sweetly, "I'm sure it was just an accident."

Just before she turned to me I thought I saw a flash of anger in her aura but then I blinked again and it was gone. I smiled back at her, openly applogetic but inwardly cautious. "Yes, I'm sorry," I said, "I didn't mean to offend," I began, noticing she was older than I, and very pretty; in a porcelain doll sort of way.

"No offense taken," I replied. Black hair, blue eyes, pale skin, this woman was Shahrizai through and through. I'd heard about their soul-reading skills; I'd have to be careful around her. "Is that not a lovely gown?" I said smoothly, changing the subject from her clumsiness.

I calmed; her sweet voice held nothing of the anger I had thought to see and so when she brushed off the accident I smiled. Then, minding my manners, I introduced myself, "I'm Paris, by the way," I said, looking to see what she spoke of. "Oh yes, that is quite lovely," I added, looking at the dress.

"Rosalie," I replied, "Comtesse de Merteuil." I tilted my head. "I think I shall have to go inside that store and look around a bit."

"Well met, my lady," I said, inclining my head in acknowlegement of her title and smiled, I wasn't about to step on any toes today.
"I would have to agree, it does seem quite extrordinary, this place." I added, waiting for her to enter first. Besides, I didn't want to ruin such a nice day and anyway I could allow for a little daliance, as long as it envolved looking at gowns.

I entered the store, and the lady, Paris I thought she'd said, followed me in. No matter, she might have good connections.
The store clerk hurried to greet us obsequiously, and I gave him a sweet smile. "Your finest gowns," I said, "in Beltane colors. Of course you're heard of this Beltane fete?"
The clerk muttered something incomprehensible, but began walking amongst the racks, throwing dresses in fiery colors over his arms. "Good service," I commented to Paris.

"Oh very good," I said, sweeping my dark hair over a shoulder with a smile, "And of course only the best will do." I added, seeing several fabulous shades of red, orange and yellow begin to fill his arms and smiled, pleased that I had decided to enter the shop.

"Certainly," I replied. Then quickly, I said, "No, not that one." The clerk had just taken down a voluminous dress in bright orange. Hastily, he replaced it before pulling out another dress.

Truly she had a good eye, that orange had been atrocious, and by the looks of it he probably thought so too. "Much better," I commented as he found one to replace it. A beautiful red one, with layers of color like a red flame on the skirt.
"That one is lovely," I said in a breath, "Let me see that one closer," I added quickly, wanting to try it on, it had promise and I wasn't about to let it get away.
A few moments later I had claimed the dress from him and was examining the fabric. Ah yes, exquisite; perfect. I just had to have it. Question was did it fit me.

"Excellent choice," I demurred. "Why don't you try it on?"

"I think I will," I said with a smile, holding the gown reverently and looking to the salesman to question where his dressing room was. Before I even voiced the question he told me, "Back corner on the left, my lady," with a curteous bow and I grinned, pleased.
In the dressing room I pulled my own gown off over my head and slipped into the lovely red flame dress with ease, just the right sort of fit too, I could tell with generous sway and movement. It would look lovely all done up in the back, it's tresses pulled tight.
With a sigh I redressed in my own gown, pulling the ties closed in the front and returning to the floor, "I think this one will do quite well, thank you," I said, "Though I'm not in a hurry to finish, I'd still like to see what else you have in stock." I added, not wanting to rush in to things, besides, he may well have a few things I might like to take home with me.
