It had been a while since I'd spent some time outside Bryony house, and I'd been truely absorbed in the last contemporary history for several days, when I realized in the midst of my musings that the Coronation was upon me, and that I had nothing acceptable to wear to the fete.
I through on a robe of practical beige popeline and strolled lightly, taking an easy turn, on my way to Andrew's shop. Such a good patron deserved, in my humble opinion, to have some of my business, after all.
On my way there, I stopped, buying a small hand of flowers from a little tsingani girl, eager to see what the day may bring as I jumped lightly across a gutter.

Another seas on meant another fete, and with Siegfried's business recently concluded, it was with a heavy purse and a light heart that I strolled through the Clothier's district. A pretty adept with flowers in her hand and a leaping gait was a little bit ahead of me, and I chuckled lightly at her antics.

I smiled as I heard the familiar chuckle of D'Angeline males trying to attract the D'Angeline female. Would he be what the day had in stock for me? Let fate decide, I replied, as I turned my head around and caught a glimpse of the dashing young peer who was tailing me. Kusheline features, I noted from the rapid snapshot I got of him. That could, indeed, be interesting.
I smiled a teasing grin at the peer before I continued my way, turning into a small alleyway, a shortcut ot my destination. Let's see if he follows, I mused.

she piqued my interest with her grin and I followed her distantly, stopping when she turned the corner into the alley. "I don't think you will find anything down there," I called. "The dresses are all out here."

I’d started going up a small set of stairs, and was only 2 steps into the ascent when the dark-haired peer called upon me. Not turning around immediately, I smiled to myself, my back to him still. He had taken the bait, and it amused me.
I chuckled heartily. What made him think I was looking for a dress ? No matter. He had assumed, and it was fair game. My foot still on the next step up, I turned around, and eyed him appreciatively. Young, and of the handsome sort. This was going to be pleasant.
My most seductive self, I smiled innocently, and threw out my favorite line. “Oh, but I will, My Lord. Would you like to wager upon it?”

In the name of Elua, she was a cunning Bryony adept if there ever was one. "I fear that agreeing will leave me with nothing to buy clothes with."

I kept my stance. I knew it was advantageous to me, my curves were flaunted and my posture elegant.
Looking at him from where I was, I laughed wholeheartedly. "Why, aren't you the prudent one, My Lord. You should re-consider, for the fun of it. I'm willing to take small bets," I offered, my voice light and playful, my expression very amused.
"Here, be reassured, My Lord. I'll make sure you have plenty to look like as dashing as you hope to at the fete," I added in mock grandeur, but meaning it. He didn't need much to be dashing, anyway.

Chuckling, I aceded. "Fine, then. I will wager you two ducats that you can't find a dress in this dirty, dank, dingy alley." I thought another moment. "If I lose, my two ducats are yours. But if I win, you have to promise me a dance at the fete."

I laughed. A crafty man, apparently. "Wager taken."
I proceeded to search high and low, in the alley itself, heedless of the fact that I was initially wagering on the fact that Andrew's shop was at the top of the stairs. He was handsome and witty. Dancing with him would be a breeze.
My face in mock pout, I curtsied. "I'm afraid I must relinquish your prize, My lord. You win." I sighed.

"How excellent," I remarked with a grin. "Though it was not part of our wager, perhaps I can convince you to walk with me to where the shops really are, my lady..."

I curtsied again, and smiled, "Well, My Lord Shahrizai, it's your lucky day. Should you have a mind for some thing a little different, I'll show you how your own cunning saved you a dear loss to the prettiest adept in the city, and you'll know one of the best kept secrets in town. But it's in that direction." I said, pointing up the stairs.

"No My Lord, I would not dream to demean your physical prowess," I replied with a smile. "I am merely making you a gratuitious offer, one which you should consider exceptionnal coming from someone from my House."

I frowned at his correction. I did not have such an extensive library for show, after all. No matter. It would all come together if it must. I was still on the stairs, he was still on the sidewalk. I waited for him to join me to go up. "Well, shall we, then?"

"So, My Lord Aramis Shahrizai," I said, his name rolling off of my tongue. "Where have you been hiding all this time? I've never met you before. Not that your family graces us so much with their visits at Briony, but, well, I would have noticed you, I think, if I'd seen you before today."

I arched my brow in surprise. "Really? It's even more surprising. I have a lot of patrons on Night's Doorstep. My services are very.... popular with the merchant community," I replied with a promising smile.

"Foreign good? Interesting." My mind reeled, reflecting on supply chain issues and management quality standards. "You must pay a lot in intermediary fees. That would be regrettable," I observed. "You might find some interest in my friend, then," I said, neglecting to mention Andrew was also a patron. "He runs a foreign materials shop, and a good one, you can take my word for it."
We arrived at the top of the stairs as I spoke, and I was please to see Andrew's front presentation was as tasteful as I expected it to be.
"Welcome to MacDermott's Haven, My Lord," I said as I got in.
Anna was at the counter and we greeted each other warmly, planting a short kiss on each other's kiss, the third one a peck on the lips. "My Lord Shahrizai, I'd like you to meet Lady Anna MacDermott, clothier extraordinaire. She'll be happy to help if you need her, I'll be back in a short moment."
At ease in the shop, after all, I'd known the MacDemott's for years, I went around and dove behind the counter, shuffling through their special orders. I pulled out a sleek black thing of Ch'nese silk with Bhodistani white embroidery at the belt and on the straps.
While Aramis did his bidding with Anna, I went in, slipped it on, and came back out, smiling and pleased with the gown.
"Well, what do you think?"
Anna smiled knowingly, and I wondered if she hadn't designed it with me in mind. I blew a kiss at her, and reported my attention to Aramis.
He was handsome, young, and apparently wealthy. My perfect man, though I wasn't sure a Shahrizai (the name resounded in my head) would find a taste ot Bryony. No matter - if we played together a little, it would suffice.
I looked at Aramis in earnest askance. "Does it please you, My Lord?"

I smiled with satisfaction. I'd liked my own reflection in the mirror, but his short comment had confirmed my suspicion: the dress could render even a Shahrizai speechless.
Averting my eyes, I asked him softly, "Why thank you, My Lord. Would you attribute this to the dress, or to the woman," I enunciated the word sultrily, "wearing it?"

I frowned. If the man did not like word games, it would be no fun. I shrugged it of, blaming it on Kusheline blood, and strode over to look at the vest. "It's lovely," I eyed him, "and you would look stunning in it, My Lord."

"Thank you," I said, eyeing the vest. A good cream silk shirt and some black trousers and this vest would do quite nicely. "We will be quite the pair on the dance floor."
