I took Mirielle's hand as I would a friend, listening to her, comparing what she describe to what I'd known. I smiled warmly, repressing a small chuckle. "Mirielle, I'm sorry to say, you sound like you were as confusing as you were confused. I can understand how you would want to be cautious, but heed your own advice, it is sound to be hopeful and to accept the unknown."
I pondered a moment. "Besides, who wouldn't love a lovely, smart and sensible woman such as you? He would be daft not to want you. Maybe he is afraid you'll break his heart, or thinks himself unworthy," I added with a small chuckle, my words the truth nonetheless.

I bunched my mouth slightly at her words, though I thought good and hard at them. Was I being confusing? Mayhap so, though if I were I didn't truly mean to be, just as I thought - or rather, hoped - that Gillermo hadn't meant to be either. My fingers gave hers a squeeze without thinking as I reflected inward, my teeth pinching down softly on the inner flesh of my lower lip.
"Sound to be hopeful and accept the unknown," I echoed, coming from my daze to look at her with a clear eye. "Though I do not think I can do such as easily as that." I shifted uncomfortably, thoughts of my parents flashing in my minds eye before I could drive them away. Her words helped, and brought a gentle smile to my lips. "I don't think he is looking for love, and I don't think I am either. I wouldn't run from it if it happened, but I didn't come to the City to find a suitor. Besides," I said, giving a soft laugh, "if he thinks I would break his heart, than he is daft, which is well I suppose; he is a ladies man, I think, and a good one at that."
I'd babbled too long, though it occurred to me that I didn't have anyone here to do such with like I had on my estate. Embarrassed slightly with how my mouth had run away from me I squeezed her hand a second time, then sat back in my cushioned seat.

I'd listened to Mirielle's long soliloque in patient silence, nodding and following her train of thought as I could, though she did lose me an instant.
"I think time will tell. And if your heart is safe, then there is nothing to worry about," I replied gently. "In your place, I would simply enjoy the attention and courtship, and let things flow. He can't hurt you, anyway, so why not enjoy the little game of love?"
I looked down at our hands, my voice hesitant. "I'm honored of your confidence, Mirielle." I wanted to offer her friendship, but last time I'd done so, it had backfired. I held back, however unwillingly.

I sighed softly. Why couldn't it be as simple as she laid out? To simply relax and enjoy the ride... though I was ever one to think and rethink, and when I couldn't figure something out it ate away at me.
"Little game of what does he want is more like it," I said with a slight smile, looking up at her quietly. "It's all confusing, no matter who it is or where they're from. You're one to be envied, you know. Beautiful and apparently unbroken, a great listener and ready to support rather than let down." My smile warmed, and I moved my gaze out the window again. "If you're honored of my confidence, I'm honored you put up with me."
A jest lit my tone in the last, and I glanced at her with a slight tease to my eye to make sure she knew I was kidding. Mostly, anyhow - there was some truth to that.

"Well, Mirielle, for what it's worth, I'll listen to you gladly anytime you need me to. I enjoyed having another woman to talk with." I liked Aaliyah very much, and she was a great friend to have, but Mirielle's maturity and poise were something I liked a lot. "Woman to woman, D'Angeline to D'Angeline" I added, so she would know there was no adept game in my words.

"Thank you," I said softly, giving her a smile. "And returned as well, should you ever need an unbiased ear to listen. Here's hoping your marquist will call upon you here if you do not run into him elsewhere."

I sighed, my mind suddenly full of Darien's patient presence and very desirable body. I voiced softly, "Here's hoping," and I wondered what I would do about my marque. I'd had another assignation and would normally have gone in for a second marquing, but I'd put it off out of sheer confusion, not wanting to go to Javier since I preferred Darien, yet not wanting to go to Darien and play games.
I looked at Heliotrope House through the carriage window. I liked the imposing building, with its large windows that let the sunshine in all day through and the suncrest above the main entrance.
"Have you ever been inside? I'll gladly take you on tour one day, if you haven't see it already."

Early spring flowers bloomed in well cultivated spots around the carriage drop off area, filling the air with the sweet scents and a feeling of blissful warmth. I took a deep breath in, shaking my head slightly at Geraldine. "I haven't, actually; I've never been inside any of the thirteen houses, though I'd like to at some point."

"Well that's a shame," I replied teasingly, "and one I would like to remedy. I'm not due to report for duty for another few hours..."

I laughed for her words, my gaze attuning to hers once more. "I'd love to see it if you have the time. If it's as lovely as you are, I think it will be a more than pleasant experiance."

"It would be my honor," I replied. The lad was already opening the door, and I got out of the carriage gingerly, waiting for Mirielle to come out. "Heliotrope is probably less exciting than Mandrake or Valerian, but I like it very much, for its warmth and cozyness" I said by way of introduction as we entered the hall.
"Hello Madeline," I said to the Fosterling who greeted us. "Lady Mirielle Bellamont will be visiting the House", I told her with a kind smile. I liked Madeline. She was blond, a chubby and very kind 15 year old, with a pleasant face and a shy demeanor. She had been declared fit for Heliotrope for her curves, but I sometimes wondered if Alyssum would not have been more appropriate.
