Mirielle's kiss troubled me just a bit. I usually prefer men to women, a natural affinity - and she hadn't struck me as a potential patron anyway. I blushed just a bit, wondering at it, and realizing I'd been telling her how beautiful she was for a long while by now. She was indeed very attractive, and one woman I would enjoy bedding if she wished it so. But maybe it was just a friendly gesture. I wasn't quite sure what to think, and so I thought pratically. Walking with the dress was a drag, no doubt, and I liked Mirielle, her company a pleasurable one if any. If she wanted an assignation, I'd accept it, but I would not push for it - it was never my style anyway.
"I like you too, Mirielle. And I'd love a ride," I smiled, "it's very kind of you."

My doorman must have been listening, for as I turned to the carriage he held it open already, and I climbed inside. "Kindness can get you far in life, or so I've learned," I said with a smile as I settled myself, smoothing my skirts over my thighs to ward off wrinkles. "And from what I can tell of you, you learned that long ago. The driver waited patiently for her box to be stored with mine and for her to climb in before moving off, heading with a slow, solid clip towards Heliotrope.

"Have I?" I thought a moment. "I'm not sure I usually think of it that way. It just seems more pleasant to be nice, that's all. My parents were very loving. I can't imagine things being anyother way, to be sincere. I guess it will keep one out of trouble, that's for sure," I said warmly.

"That it will," I laughed, glancing from her and to the city rolling by. "Unless, of course, you manage to get yourself into a sticky situation; then it might just entangle you further."

"I guess. It's never happened to me, so I wouldn't know, really. What would your advice be otherwise?"

"Pile on your womanly wiles," I said with a teasing grin, giving a soft laugh for the mental picture.

I smiled to myself. Mirielle had a point. I was often too good-natured, and got trampled on by patrons or other interests of the like. What saved me was my inability to hold a grudge. But did it make me weak? I'd never thought on it.
"Sound advice, Mirielle, I will heed it," I replied softly.

Her tone was too soft, her face too thoughtful, and I remained silent a time as she apparently was reflecting inward. The city continued to roll by with a steady beat, only slowing down here or there for carriages already passing through and intersection before us.
After a time I glanced back at her, studying her with unfeigned curiousity as my eyes held strong to her features. "Are you happy within Heliotrope? Near to your marque?"

I'd been reflecting on Mirielle's words, and tucked away in a drawer of my mind the result of it, something I would eventually debate further within myself. Mirielle's questions brought me back to her, and I smiled apologetically.
"I'm sorry I got lost in what you said, Mirielle. Yes, I am happy at Heliotrope, for now, anyway. I do wish to wed one day, and bear children to a man I will love. My marque is more than halfway done, and I need to start thinking about what I will do once it is complete."

She was a softie, I noted, and one with wishful dreams as well. "I wish you luck with your marque, though something tells me you don't really need it." I gave her a warm smile, teasing around the edges, before continuing. "Still, I think many women share the dream of love and children as you do. I do, though I have no immediate plans of any such thing. Heres hoping though, for both you and I."
The tease fell away as from the warmth of my smile as we rode on, the carriage alternating between a soft rocking and small bumps from the almost - spring roads.

"You are right about the marque. I could stay at Heliotrope and be merry, watching over the children and soothing their hearts, taking the usual . Besides, I have a mind to tie some loose ends eventually, and being free from the House would allow me to do so more effectively." I sighed. "But here's to hoping," I said, "though I have no doubt that you will find your fit, Mirielle. In fact, I'm sure you have more than your faire share of pretenders, just waiting for your word," I added with a slight tease.

I laughed with her tease, raising one arm to gather my hair as I shook my head slightly at her. "And I think, dear Geraldine, that you flatter too much with your kindness. You are adept with staying out of trouble with it, I see." Returning her tease with a grin I brought my hair over my left shoulder and let it fall in an attempt to keep it out of my face. "What loose ends do you have to tie up, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I speak my mind, Mirielle, that's all," I replied.
"I wish to go back to my hometown. It's been 12 years, and I wonder what it looks like now. Besides, there are people I need to track down, perhaps even meet again. But I need to go there to do so."

"Ah," I said. "Understandable. There's a few people at the fete that I'd like reunite with, but other than that it's who I left in Azzalle. What provience did you hale from?"

"Eisande. I may not be of noble birth, but I take pride in it. I pray more often to Eiseth then to other Angels, though not for motherhood just yet. I will want my child to be born of love," I explained.

"I don't think you have to be of a certian birth to take pride in where you are from," I said quietly, giving her a slightly sidelong look. "What matters is what is in your heart. I think you'll find the love you look for."

"I'm sorry, Mirielle, I said that wrong. What I mean is that I feel Eisheth strongly in me, though I am not a Scion," I explained. To her sweet promise, I answered, "I hope one day I am loved as I love in return, but I am not actively seeking it. I'm open to it, though." I paused, and giggled. "Hence the mystery."

"A good mystery at that, too." I grinned at her as she gave a girlish giggle, nearly indulging in one myself with her. "That's all I want too; to love and be loved in return, though it seems to be a harder thing to gain than first appearance. Oh well, though. Half the fun is in the looking, hm?" I did laugh at that, my thoughts turning involuntarily to Gillermo.

"In the looking, the dreaming, the awaiting," I replied. "Even lying in anguish and wondering ig one is loved in return... that also is to be cheriched." I smirked mischievously. "But the most fun part is the touching, of course."

I laughed, nodding my head. "Indeed, touching can be the most fun." A flirtatious smile crossed my face, and I leaned forward a touch. "Then again, the idea of touching without actually being able to is gratifying too, so long as you can in the end."

"Frustrating?" I asked, slightly confused. "How so? Flirting is meant to be fun, or so I thought."

I smiled, my mind drifting to the moment of silent paradise I'd experienced with Darien. "I've recently been in a situation where the attraction was palpable, but he did not make a move. I could have bit my fist in frustration," I replied.

It were almost as if the gods themselves placed a finger on our conversation, for before I knew it, and against my better judgement, I found myself nodding in understanding and speaking about a subject I had no intention of talking about.
"I know how you feel," I said sympathetically. "Last night was such a night for me; he flirted and we danced to no music inside a tavern, yet I still ended up with brotherly kisses and tamed physical touch." I frowned slightly where she had smiled, thinking back on it. "And they say women are confusing, no?"

I listened to Mirielle's tale with attention, my eyes portraying the scene. It sounded like a fairy tale, really.
"Dancing to no music? How romantic." I sighed. "Maybe your gentleman had his reasons. If you don't mind me asking, who made first contact?"

"I looked at him first, I believe, though he sent me a drink closely followed by a written note." A faint blush filtered across my cheeks, and I fussed momentarily with my skirts for distraction. "It was nice, really, and he was refreshing, but also more confusing than any man I've ever known."
"What of yours?" I asked, not wanting to monopolize the conversation with solely myself. "How did it play out?"

"It sounds like he was going through some lengths to win you over," I replied. "Mine was somebody I did business with. Oh, Elua, I'll just tell you." I whispered, "my marquist."
I recounted the marquing session in my mind. "He is a lovely artist, and the sweetest man, with a gentle touch. He made me laugh during the marquing, and there was a silent moment where I stood in his shadow, within inches of him, and I could feel my body calling him, and his body responding. The way he looked at me... it was lovely, as if I was a work of art of sorts. I know he wanted me. But he did not touch me, not one bit."

I smiled, placing my hand on hers. "He's a good business man, have no doubt; he kept things professional between you two when they could easily have turned into more, and that demands respect... however utterly annoying." Giving the back of her hand a soft pat I sat straight again, still mulling her words. "He'll come around to you, I think, though it doesn't take away from the frustration of it. As for my confusion situation... I cannot tell if he was trying to win me over or simply attempting to flirt for the game of it. I'd have to lean towards the latter, honestly, with the way he acted physically."

I pondered Mirielle's words. "I thought of it. It would indeed have been unprofessionnal for him to do anything, despite our obvious desire. I'm hoping to meet him again in another context. It's difficult for adepts to get in touch with peers, unless they have a chance meeting, you see. But it felt..... fateful. As for your gentleman," I paused thinking about it an instant, "did you consider the possibility that it started as a game, and that through it, the game became something else? Did he show desire at all?"

I smiled, listening to her talk of her marquist. "I'm rooting for you, Geraldine. I'd like to think someone as sweet as you could be happy, no matter how long it lasts for in the end. Who knows, though? Perhaps he will be the one in the end who gives you the love you want... or perhaps I'm simply being a hopeless romantic."
My smile faded at her words of Gil, and I reflected inwardly. Could it have turned into somewhat else? Mayhap... If he were born and bred in Terre d'Ange I'd say no, but I do not know of Serenissman cultures on such matters. "He did, I think," I said, still thoughtful, "though I'll be the first to admit that I shied away when he did. I'd recieved two brotherly kisses before then and was afraid to risk anything after when I wasn't sure of the outcome. Folly for me, I guess."
