I shook my head catching up with him again and hooking my arm with his. "I'm not sure Duchesse Ana would appreciate a child like me asking her to introduce me to them." I replied.

"She's no dragon," I said. "Granted, you would have to wait till the opportunity arose, but I don't see why she would be loathe to take you, well behaved and charming as you are."
We turned back onto the main street. "There is a very high end shop on this road," I said.

I chuckled heartly. "You must think me simple." I replied shaking my head. "I'm afraid I'm not used to the big City and I'm slightly sheltered."

"Far from it," I said. "I've only been here a year myself, but you learn a lot in a year. Besides, you've been here less than a day, you'll get used to it in time."
We stopped in front of a shop with a glorious white ball gown embroidered in diamonds in the window. "What do you think of that?" I asked her.

I gazed up at the gown and nodded. Fit for a queen, I imagined myself within the sleek gown. I'd look like Melisande for sure.
"Its gorgeous, can we go in?"

I walked into the store and gazed around at the gowns. "Beautiful." I gasped softly allowing my voice to hold awe.

I nodded in agreement. "They are," I said. Motioning to an attendant, I said, "Excuse me, my cousin is in need of a gown, perhaps you will help her find something."
The attendant, a stammering youth about 16, nodded, and bowed to Selena.

I smiled and nodded. "What colour do you think?" I asked turning to look through the gowns displayed.

"B - blue suits my lady," stammered the boy. "Or silver."
"I agree," I said. "Though I'm partial to black myself."

I shrugged. "All Shahrizai wear the same thing." I said turning back to the attendent. " Something more interesting."

The trembling boy said, "A m-moment, please," and began to scour the racks, emerging with several dresses in shades of ranging from pale blue to violet. Among these, I saw the white dress from the window, in Selena's size of course. "What think you of the white dress, Selena?" I asked her.

"Quite an idea, the contrast against my hair versus the paleness of my skin." I replied looking to the boy. "What do you think?"

"I think it would look lovely on you," I said. It would, but it was beyond me why she did not want blue or black, colors that flattered her coloring without question. "It will certainly make people look twice."

Thats the plan. "I'd like to see something in green perhaps." I looked to the attendant who scampered away and returned with a variety of green gowns.
"What do you think," I said picking out an extremely seductive gown. "too promiscuous for a girl of sixteen?"

I chuckled. "Perhaps save it for when you're a little older," I said. Reaching into the pile, I pulled out another in the same color and style, but with a neckline that did not plunge quite as low. Selena was beautiful, make no mistake, but for a woman to display large breasts thus seemed tasteless in my view. "What about this one?"

I shrugged. "Perhaps green is not my colour." I sighed picking slightly at the gown he held before me.
"Blue seems so boring."

"On any other person, it is simply a color," I said. "But on you, it becomes radiant. Blue accentuates your eyes, and hair, and skin." I wagged my finger teasingly. "Don't be so quick to discredit it."

The attendant disappeared, and in a moment returned with one of the most glorious gowns I had ever seen. In a satin fabric reminiscent of the midnight sky, the entire thing was embroidered with hundreds of tiny diamonds which clustered together at the top and spread out as it got closer to the bottom. It was strapless, with a line of tiny buttons up the back. Even I was jealous of it. "What think you?" I said.

I shrugged. "Perhaps I'm not as keen on gown shopping as I thought." I said furrowing my brows at the gown. Life in the city seemed boring already and I wondered if my entire time here would be spent in tedium.

I shrugged. "Suit yourself," I said. "My lunch hour is up, and I need to get back to the shop." I bowed to her. "It's been a pleasure."

Perfect reason I wanted to be free of these Shahrizai misfits.
"Of course cousin, forgive me. Thank you for your time." And for boring me to tears. I smiled politely and gave a curtsy.

Nodding, I stepped out. The girl would learn her place eventually, I didn't worry.

With him gone I smiled and turned back to the attendant. "That dress," I said pointing to the green one I had picked earlier, the one that was most definately too revealing. "I'll take it." The attendant looked slightly shocked but I grinned widely at him and he made his way to ring up the gown.

From my vantage behind a tall rack draped with dresses that ranged from white to pale champagne in hue, I couldn't help but laugh a little as the Shahrizai girl chose the dress her cousin had advised against. Without even trying it on. I couldn't help but wonder if she'd have been so keen if her departed cousin had praised the dress. I rather thought not.
For that matter I rather thought the timid attendant should lose his post for failing to inform the lady that the colour would make her look waxen and sallow. An offense made all the worse, in my books, for the lack of greed behind it. If he merely wanted her coin that was one thing, but being too frightened of her to guide her selection was terribly gauche. I couldn't help but chuckle again.

I was about to pay for my gown when I heard a chuckle from behind me. Seeing a young noble of flaxen hair standing a stride or two away from me.
"Do you not approve?" I asked, my voice holding both a sterness and a light airy tease.

I smiled slightly, wetting my lips as I stepped closer to her, giving a little half bow. I took the oppertunity to gove her a very subtle once over, she was even younger than I'd first guessed. Despite her womanly form, she couldn't be more than 16, I was sure of it.
Straightening up I smiled again as I looked her directly in the eye, "Would the lady object to an honest opinion from a stranger?" I asked in an earnest tone, completely at odds with my crooked grin.
