My carriage pulled up the the edge of the clothier's district, exiting I secured my purse, full with coin, and began to wander slowly down the street. Mauriere kept ten paces behind as was our arrangement and was to keep his distance at all time less I give him our agreed signal. I smiled happily glancing fiercely at the carts and people that lined the street. How amazing. I hoped that the day would prove interesting.

It was an ordinary business day, but the weather was so nice that at lunchtime, I closed shop and decided to walk around for a while. A new shipment of spices from the Orient had kept me busy all morning and I thought I would never get the smell out of my hair.
As I walked, I spotted a familiar head of blue-black hair on top of a familiar body walking down the street. I sped up my paces to catch up to my cousin. "Good afternoon, cousin," I called out.

Crap, family. Just the people I wished to avoid.
I grit my teeth and rolled my eyes before he was too close.
Oh well, you'll have to deal with some of them soon enough, this city if rife with them.
Putting on my kindest and brightest smile I turned and looked jovially at the Shahrizai face that stared back at me.
"Cousin, well met." I said allowing the slightest hint of innocence shine through.

"Well met, indeed," I said. I was no fool to be hoodwinked by her innocent demeanor, I could read the cracks in her soul as well as any of my other family. So, I would make the formalities short and let her go. "How recently are you arrived here?"

"Only this day." I replied politely. "Its my first time in the City of Elua ever." I added.

A bit astounded at how she could get out and about so quickly, I asked, "Are you enjoying it so far? How long are you here for?"

I smiled. "I haven't had much chance to look around so I don't really know if I've enjoyed myself at all." I chuckled. "I'm here for a while, I suppose as long as my sister can put up with me. She's just reached her 18th natal and moved to the city. But of course I had to follow." I chuckled again making light of the conversation.
Good, let them know you're coming.

By Kushiel, the girl was so hostile underneath her lovely exterior. It was as though she didn't want to be welcomed by her family. "I'm sure you will have an excellent time," I said. "Shall I leave you to your shopping or would you like me to show you around a little?" I said the last part to be polite, I think she wanted to be rid of me as soon as possible.

"Oh, please. I'd love a guided tour." I said with a bob of a curtsy. "That is of course you have else where to be." I pouted my lower lip slightly with a smile.

"I must return to my shop within the hour," I said. "But I would love to show you around." This was true, I preferred to get along with all my family. "Is there something in particular you would like to find or do you just want to see it all?"

I shook my head letting my hair sway from side to side. "Nothing in particular. Perhaps you could point out some interesting sites; places to eat, drink, or clothing shoppes."

I nodded. "If you want to eat, the White Hart and Desir are the places to go," I said. "There are a few very good clothing shoppes, but for something specific, Eglantine is also excellent."
I pointed her down a street just off the main road. "This shoppe is good if you want high quality for a lower price."

I looked in where he directed. "I"ve not been to the Night Court." I said curiously.

"It's a beautiful place," I said, admiring a blue ball gown in the window of the shoppe. "Would you like to go? The Houses are up the hill, above Night's Doorstep." She was recently come of age, so the trip would be appropriate.

I opened the door so she could step in, then followed her inside. "After you." The shoppe was a comfortable size, and dresses of every color and style were on racks and draped over mannequins. I saw the beginnings of a few spring designs, a good sign. "Do you see anything you like?"

I looked at the designs. Old, old, boring, dull....yuck...what was that? "There are some nice ones, not really my tastes. But I'm not from the city so my tastes a more provincial." I obvserved.

"It's fine," I said. "There are a hundred different shoppes to buy dresses in, but if you want something made just for you to suit your taste, there is Eglantine, like I said."
Spotting a hideous chartreuse dress in the corner I bit my lip to keep from laughing. "I think the designer of that dress must have been having a bad day."

I nodded happily.
"Yes please." I said with a girlish wink and took his arm in a charming and unassuming manner.
"I have saved up a lot of money for this trip so I could get a very nice gown for court." I commented in a low tone as we began to move toward the exit. "Would you perhaps show me one of the higher end clothing stores. The one that perhaps some of the royal family shop at?" My voice was giddy with excitement.

I pushed open the door with my free hand, allowing her to step though before following her out into the street. "I know some nicer ones," I said thoughtfully, "but none specifically that the royal family shops at. Does that suit you?"

I nodded still smiling. "I suppose." I replied mischieviously. "Do the royals ever come into Mont Nuit?" I questioned.

"Occasionally," I said. "But they are never without guards. The best time to greet a royal is probably at a fete, when everyone gathers together, peer and royal alike." I looked at her questioningly. "Do you have a mind to be a courtier?"

I stopped in my tracks and let my jaw fall open.
"You have?!" I asked surprisedly. "I thought that Prince Delaunay and Princess Phreya were not so friendly with our side." I said knowing that it was truth, I'd spent enough time reading about them. "I just mean I didn't think they were as close to the fold as say you and I."

I frowned. "I suppose not," I said, "but they have been to a gathering or two." I chuckled. "If you want to be close to the crown you should ask Anacrasia."
