The walls of the townhome seemed to me closing in on me more and more with every passing hour, even though the halls and rooms seemed frighteningly empty. I was alone in a way I had never been in my life. Dominic had abandoned me and returned to Kusheth, and I had driven Christophe away.
I needed to loose myself in the City, to try and forget everything I had done to ruin my life. I needed to try and remember how to be the woman I had worked so many years to become.
I had dressed carefully. A velvet gown the color of fresh blood that clung obscenely to my breast and hips, with a slit up the side that showed most of my thigh. My hair cascaded down my back in glowing waves. A pair of gloves and heeled boots, both matching the dress perfectly, and I was done. Well, almost done. I added touches of my personal perfume, inhaling the soft lily scent.
Perfect.
The carriage stopped in the clothier's district and I stepped out, glancing around as I did. The throb of the streets resonated inside me and I knew I had made the right decision. Wandering over to the large window display of the nearest store, I looked over the items offered.

I wasn't one to normally converse with Shahrizai, but there was something within this woman that made me stop.
I had been ordering a bouquet of flowers to be delievered to Juliette's home when I saw her. Quite obviously Shahrizai, and the gown she wore...
"Lovely." I said standing next to her with distance that would not intrude on her space.

Turning my head, I looked at the man who had spoken, smiled, and then looked back at the items in the window.
"I like the blue lace, it would be nice for spring," I commented.

I nodded. "It would indeed. Unfortunately I have no eye for colour or design, I'd have to trust you on that assessment." I smiled genuinely.

I turned to face him fully, running my eyes over him from head to toe.
"Well, if you have no eye for it, then you have the sense to employ someone who does, for I never would have guessed," I told him, smiling.
Slipping past him, close enough to almost touch him, to look at the items in the other window of the store.

I chuckled softly and clasped my hands behind my back following her to the next window. "Fortunately I do." I replied bouncing on the balls of my feet. "Perhaps you could give me some suggestions though."

Reaching out, I ran my gloved fingers over his chest and shoulders as I circled around him slowly.
"Hmm, it's hard to say," I told him once I had stopped in front of him again, my hand slowly dropping to my side. "No pale colors for certain, you would be lost in them."
I tilted my head slightly. "I think perhaps I'd have to see you out of those clothes, before I could decide what else you should be in."

I chuckled again. "You're not blunt are you." I said watching her circle as though I was pray.

"Forgive me if I've offended," I said, my tone anything but contrite. "I guess I misread your interest." Smiling wickedly, I turned away from him to look in the window again.

I had few encounters with Shahrizai but this was interesting indeed.
"Do you ever speak to some one as though they are not a sexual conquest?" I asked moving toward her and switching sides to be more in front of her.

"Yes," I said, tilting my chin up slightly so I could look him in the eye. "Everyone is a conquest of some sort, but not all of them sexual. Sex is just the easiest way."

I raised both my brows. "That must urn you many friends." I keeping my gaze on hers. "Your friends like to be...conquered?"

I made a dismissive noise. "I don't have friends," I replied. "Was that what drew you from what you were doing to talk to me? You wanted to be my friend?"

I laughed. "Oh Elua no," I said smilig. "But I can't deny that you look like you need one." It was honest enough, I made no pretense. I felt sorry for her.

Oh merciful Kushiel it took all my will not to slap him as hard as I possibly could and then plant the heel of my boot between his legs. I kept the urge in check though, not even letting the impulse show at all in my outward demeanor.
"And why good sir would I want you as a friend? You haven't even given me your name," I asked, my tone even though chill.

I chuckled again. "Are you Shahrizai all so painfully clueless." I said seeing the distress in her face. "I'm not an idiot and no one else on this street is." I glanced around. "You scream lonely." I scoffed and turned my head to back to the window.
"Prince Gratien de Somerville." I said after a moment.

Well, the not slapping and kicking had been even more prudent than I thought.
I sank into an exquisitely graceful curtsey. "Your grace," I said, rising. "Forgive me if my soundless screaming distracted you from your day. I will take myself elsewhere and bother you no more."
Turning, I made my way to the next store down, stopping at it's far window to browse the display.

I chuckled walking after her. "Try to be a little more self righteous," I said moving in front of her. "I understand why you're alone then. What man would choose to be with such a cold snake." I shook my head. "Good day," I made a lavish bow. "Enjoy your pity." Narrowing my gaze on her I turned from her and walked away. It was time I had some fun and got away from such a black person.

What an ass. I hoped when he tripped over his high morals that he fell and cracked his skull. As if his family was the white light of virtue. Seriously, what an ass.
I took a deep breath and debated the urge to find a bar and drink. Not yet, later perhaps.
Deciding I couldn't put enough distance between me and the royal scum, I not only walked the opposite direction, but crossed the street to window look over there.

I was aimlessly walking through a large number of boring stores that held nothing I liked when I saw an unmistakable flow of dark hair and a very seductive red dress. I also saw what looked like the end of an angry exchange between Malabella and another man. She happened to walk across the street to the side that I had been walking on. Since there was no way I could walk past her and not say anything I walked up to her.
"I hope that this day isn't turning out to be unpleasant."

Oh thank you gods, I don't know that I could have heard a more perfect voice at that instant.
Smiling genuinely, all thought of poisoning Gratien fading from my mind, I looked at Idaeus. "It was unpleasant, but just suddenly became much better," I told him. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you."

I felt pleasantly surprised. I didn't think that Malabella disliked me, but I also wasn't sure if I was being a nuisance. I am usually good at reading others, but Shahrizai's can be a hard read at times.
"Its good to hear that you enjoy my presence," I told her honestly, "because I'd be lying if I said I didn't find you at least a little intriguing."
Mala has always came across as being a straight forward individual so I decided to return the favor. Not that I don't enjoy playing a little intrigue now and again.

"Intriguing," I said with a soft smile. "I like that."
Stepping closer, I slipped my arm through his. "Take me somewhere," I said. "Anywhere, just as long as it's off these crowded streets."
The desire I had felt for the masses had died, and now I just wanted to go somewhere else.

I bent my arm a little when Mala put her arm in mine for a more comfortable stance.
I started walking away from the center of the shops, though I still had to think about a good place to take her. I was pretty sure she didn't really want to go where I truly wanted to take her, since she hung out on the same side of the whip as I did. So, I tried to think of someplace creative instead.
"If you are hungry I could run through Mandrake's kitchen and grab a basket, than we could go to a quite spot I know that's by a small river and have lunch."

"That sounds lovely," I said honestly, glancing over at him and smiling again. "I'm not stealing you away from other plans am I?"
I hoped not, for I might feel just guilty enough in my state to let him go about his day. Idaeus was an oddity in my life, someone I neither wanted to dominate or hurt. I enjoyed him and hoped he didn't have to run off to do something.

"No, I have no plans," I told her, I was glad I didn't have any. I would have been annoyed with myself if I had to give up some time with Mala. She was one person that I wanted to know more about.
"I was only wondering about, hoping to find something interesting."

"It seems perhaps we were meant to run into each other then," I said with a chuckle. I felt at ease in a way I hadn't thought possible today and was unendingly grateful.

I shrugged slightly than said, "if you want I can give you a tour, we'll end it at the kitchen where I know one of the cooks will let me run off with some of their better selections. I am proud of the house, espcially since I have helped plan a few of the rooms out and such."
