I sighted the city just after Justine did, he was very cheerful, and I had to admit the excitement was getting to me as well. I glanced at my mother and saw the smile light up her face, she'd always loved to travel and while Elua looked overly boring to me, I think she liked the business of the city.
We approached the gate and my mother hailed the guards giving our name. "Comtesse Pheonanomie de Rocaille and her two children, Justine de Rocaille and Adrienne Ambre de Rocaille."
I just rolled my eyes and sighed, like the guards really cared. I just wanted a hot bath and a good meal at this rate. My mother reined her horse next to me and gave me one of those mother's smiles. "Adrienne, dear our townhouse isn't far, although I'm sure it's dust covered at this rate."
It was true, our city townhouse had hardly been used by our family in generations. The last time I'd been to Elua was when I was eight I believe, our family had been keeping to itself for the last few generations, but my mother was of a different breed and she wanted our family's wounds to be over and done with.
It wasn't Justine's first time at the townhouse, he'd spent a few months there on and off since he was 16, but my mother only had brought him here once, and he didn't need the supervision I did, my mother had mused.
This journey was really for me. We arrived at the townhouse to create a handful of servants who had obviously been tipped off that we were on our way from the city's gates.
Justine jumped down from his horse and hugged an elderly looking lady. "Rusere I missed you, you old minx!" he exclaimed into the afternoon sun. She smiled good naturely and I slid down off my horse and listened to the introduction of the servants.
A few minutes later we were inside the town home and I hopped up the stairs trying to find a suitable room for myself. First the room, and then the bath.
"Dear, I'm sending a letter of arrival to the palace, to say we are in attendance to the city." My mother called up after me, but any such thought of duty and long since left my mind.
