I rode the deep brown gelding, Channel, that my father had given to me when i reached my majority toward the towering City of Elua. the walls rose before me like giants standing guard before the jewel of the nation that was the palace and left me breathless.
This was the first time i had come to the city and every sight and sound was different for me. Seeing the armed guards at the gate startled me. I did not know why they were there but after passing through the gate i felt much better knowing they were there. It was mid day and the city was bustling. There were people off to the market and children running around everywhere. I was afraid to even move worried that i would trample someone with my channel.
I dismounted and led channel into the city watching everything around me. it seemed that i walked for hours and yet barely moved. everything seemed to blend together until I stumbled upon what i came to know as Nights Doorstep.
There were people everywhere but i didn't feel so closed in. people were smiling and i could hear drunken laughter from a bars open door. my muscles began to relax and my nerves began to ease. i found a stable near by that gladly took my horse. i paid them coin and asked them if they knew of anyone who was hiring for a blacksmith or swordsman and if they knew of a good boarding house and pub. they only told me one thing. the Cockerel.
So off i set not knowing where i was really going and wanting nothing more than a tube of water, a hot meal and a stiff drink.
