The trip to the Temple had been a quiet one and it was getting into the late afternoon when I'd finally begun the trip after visiting my parents; now it was edging into dusk and the sky was a light but deep violet. The scents in the air were peaceful and healing of both body and spirit and could instantly feel my breathing ease and my shoulders relax from the tension of anticipation and anxiety they held.
Being in the City and used to such things this Temple had many altars, some in secluded alcoves, made for prayers and stocked with candles of many shapes, sizes and colors. Head high I stepped into one of those and chose a simple white dipped candle with lines of filagree and set an offering of gold ducats into a nearby dish. Closing my eyes and clasping the taper between my hands gracefully I began my prayer.
For what seemed like eternity and yet not long enough I desperately asked Eisheth for a child to continue my line, to bring me and those around me joy and strength, and to allow me the wisdom to raise it wisely as well as the health to survive long enough to do so. I'd been to Namaah's temple earlier that day to commune with her- something in my heart told me I had her understanding and support and, after a time, I felt the same from Eisheth. With a wide smile I lit my candle and stood gracefully, set it where it could burn unabated, and then strode from the place. This job was done, time to get to my part of the bargain- preparing for my child and doing what I could to provide.
