"Oh, but imagine how much more handsome you'd look in good light," I replied sweetly, then finished the last of my brandy and signaled for another. "You're quite handsome right now, to be sure, but with less dust, grime and smoke in the air no doubt the candles would do you more justice. I know they likely would me."

I drank deeply of my brandy and placed down the empty glass. "A travisty." I said slapping both hand on my knees. "We should drink else where then." Standing from my chair I picked up the half empty bottle and moved to where Liselle sat. "Come my lady."

"As my lord wishes," I replied demurely, rising smoothly and running my hands over my skirts to settle them again, then looking up at Denis through my lashes. "Does my lord Denis has somewhere in mind, I wonder, or is it to be a surprise?"
This was going quite well and I only hoped the evening would get better. If he only wanted to bed me- well, that was fine, as it meant another contact in the Court, but what I truly needed was friends. Those who shared my views and goals, whom I could work with and assist in return.

I took her hand in mine, the other hand holding the bottle of brandy. "I thought I'd let the wind take me where it may." I said tugging her after me. I really didn't know where I wanted to take her, if all else failed I had my chambers at the palace.

"The wind can be a good guide," I agreed as I stroked the back of his hand softly with my thumb as it clasped his own and I fell into step. "As good as any, for it can see a great deal more, I'd think."
Leaning closer for a moment I added in a whisper against his ear, "Though I do hope it doesn't lead to any mountain steppes today and instead to somewhere with comfortable seating."

That had sort of clinched it for me, the palace it was. I took a big swig of the bottle I held and walked us toward a carriage-for-hire.
"The Palace please." I said as I opened the door for Liselle.

"Thank you," I said graciously as I stepped up, then sat and toyed with a curl that fell over my shoulder and across my chest, winding it around my finger nimbly as I waited for him to climb in as well. Inwardly I brimmed with excitement- the Palace! Fantastic. Still, I showed it with no more than an interested flashing of my deep brown eyes that could easily have been taken for a more ordinary sort of enthusiasm.

I stepped into the carriage after Liselle had settled herself, sitting myself I flashed her a smile before the carriage pulled away.
