Life had been full of ups and downs and I needed a break. I had been tempted to go back to Desire to see if I could snatch up the young male server who had flirted with me, but in the end I chose not too. I was not in the mood for rejection if he changed his mind. So, instead I chose to go to a bar that I did not frequent often but was known for good drink if you knew what to ask for. I wore a high collar, the only people who would know of my station would be those who previously knew me. For once I wanted to be something other than an adept. Someone who had a say in their life, who didn't do all of their work under a contract. I also wanted to drink my mind a blank and stop trying to decide if I should stay where I was at or take my savings and move on.
I went to the bar and ordered three drinks. I drank two quickly, the bar tender making no notice if he cared. I instantly liked him, but simply took my third to a table and sat back to watch the crowd.

I haven't been out much in the city at night... at least not into bars. I felt the nearness of my debut approaching and needed a change of scenery. The pub I entered would have to do. I wore a simple white tunic that fit me rather snugly and loose black pants. I felt no need to dress up to see the pubs. I walked up to the bar, being careful not to bump into anyone but not overly so. I ordered a drink and found a place standing at the bar facing away from it elbows propped on the counter.

I watched the patrons, as usual and could not help but to notice the young man who walked in, wearing simple clothes and seeming to be a little out of his element. I watched him for a moment as he ordered a drink and then turned around. I got a good look at his face then and how the shirt showed his profile. Perhaps skipping the boy at Desire was a good choice after all, though I did not know if this one would find my choice of love of interest. Sometimes you could tell those who did and sometimes you couldn't. I never assumed that one did not because some hid it very well.
Deciding that sitting around was a bad ideal after all I got up and walked over to the bar. Thankfully a seat near him emptied, making my approach easy and casual. I sat at a seat next to him and ordered a refill. I decided to slow down my drinking, so I could at least act normal around him. If he left I could always return to my previous activities.
The drink was quickly brought and as it was I said, "dull night isn't it?" Though it was a simple question, but I asked it to see what sort of answer he would give.

I sipped my drink slowly. A smaller man with strange white hair sat next to me. I sized him up, as I am used to doing, but not in an agressive way. He must have been a few years older than me. Well dressed so I couldn't decipher wether he was an adept or a peer. With nothing better to do that night I lifted my glass to him in return to his comment and replied with "yes it is."

I nodded at his answer as if it revealed more than it did. I took another drink and shrugged saying, "what brings you to this bar?" Having some years under my belt as an adept I could usually tell when a more subtle approach worked better than a more aggressive. If anything it kept me from scaring them away before I was done amusing myself with them.

I shrugged my shoulders and looked straight ahead. Yes...there was a lot on my mind. What brought me there I really could not say other than to get away from the house. I wasn't much of a talker. I believed that talking was for lazy people, but I had a drink in my hand and felt it to be the only way to release some of the stress from the past few days.
"I just needed to get away for a while. I had never been here before and thought I would give it a chance." I said. Those were the words that I could muster without feeling like a blabbering woman.

I noted that he wanted to get away, something to pull more out of him later if I needed too. In reality if he was dealing with a bunch of silly drama I did not want to hear about it.
Instead I motioned slightly around the bar, being careful not to point at anyone, skating out of a bar fight was not my ideal of fun. "What do you think so far?"

A grin met the side of my mouth. Oh Gods, the people in here, none worth accepting an offer from. I was of Dahlia house, a noble creature, I felt that being in this place was almost an insult to my upbringing.. but I was almost finished with my drink.. and I did delight in critiqing others.
I leaned down towards my light haird barfellow. "In all honesty, I am not impressed."
I quickly turned around and ordered another drink, a stronger one this time. It was passed to me faster than I had expected. I looked at the man, lifted my glass to my eye and peered through the yellow liquid to scan the room again through a different view. Back to him I whispered... "It is no better through that eye either."

I almost raised a brow at Andre's description, though I would agree that this bar wasn't the best that Mont Nuit had to offer. His second comment made me smile a rare honest smile and seemed a little ironic.
"Yes," I said in agreement, "only a few drinks won't make this place any better. Though there are better bars out there, depending on what you are looking for." I paused for a moment and then asked, "is there any place in particular that you do like?"

I drank half of what was in my glass in one long gulp. "I haven't been out much" I said flatly. I turned around to face the bar to conceal myself a little better agasint the mass of people in it. Through my white shirt anyone could tell that I had no mark on my skin. "If I have known nothing better of the Nights Doorstep then I can consider this the best. Do you have a favorite?" I inquiored. "I am getting hungry, maybe one close by with good food."

I was curious as to his station. He did have some natural control to his pose, which made me think adept. If he was, it was not Valerian, I could spot them without difficulty most of the time. Any well trained Valerian without difficulty at all.
"This is a good place if you want decent drinks and less chance of being known. However, it is not the best, especially for food." I thought for a few moments. I had been in most of the places over my long stay here. I had no carriage so anything that wasn't a great distance from the Night Court was always preferable. Deciding to stick with my assumption that he was an adept I chose locations that would not cause us problems. "I would suggest either The White Hart Manor, pretty good food though less rowdy. If you want some place more lively but still appetizing the Adept's Inn always has something going on."
In truth I did not visit the Adept's Inn often, if anything I would probably cause myself more trouble than good. But, I could behave myself for the most part if he choose that one. If anything he would be my interest above everyone else."

Of the two suggestions I quickly decided on The White Hart Manor. I didn't want to be surrounded by other adepts because I knew that I was not supposed to be wandering about the city before my debut. I attributed my luck at not getting caught to simply not talking to people and exposing the fact that I'm an adept, and my physical appearence tricking people into thinking I am much older than I really am. I was just hungry. The man seemed easygoing enough and visibly no threat to my presence. He didn't annoy me like most other men do.. at least he wasn't after me, so I thought.
"The White Hart, as long as the food is good, sounds like a place I'd try." I said to him. I finished my drink and set the glass on the bar. I paid the barmaid and looked towards the door. "How do I get there?" I asked him. Just the thought of food was making me anxious. I could hear sounds coming from my belly.

"The White Hart Manor it is then." I paid my tab also and stepped off my stool, trying to hide the fact my lack of hight made me drop from it slightly. "I will show you where it is, I could use some food as well. Otherwise this drink might get to me sooner than I would prefer."
I started walking toward the door, assuming that he would follow me. In truth, if he did want to know where the food was he would have no choice.

I noted the man get up. I nodded to him with a smile and began to follow him until I was abruptly stopped by the sight of a member of my house. If they found me out I would be in a heap of trouble from the Dowayne. I tapped the man on the shoulder and whispered to him "I'm sorry my lord but I need to get back to ... to home." With that I snuck out the back and made my way home to Heliotrope.

We were about to make our leave when he suddenly left. I frowned as he did so, it was rather rude and quite annoying. It would seem that my suspecions of him being an adept were correct.
Silly little people the young ones were, bending the rules with no real intentions of breaking them. I broke a few in my day, I simply made sure I was not caught when doing so.
