"Loosing skill in battle is one thing in a drunken stupor another." I smiled "And yes you are right, but if badly broken it could get more complicated as you know. I must tend my body better than the highest priced adept at the end of the day."

I smiled, “More than a Camellia? I have had the pleasure of meeting some of their house – a blemish is a catastrophe to them, you know… But of course, we all care much for our profession.” I looked at my hands. They were large, but well tended, clean, without calluses, though they were strong for the training I took. Mostly, they were deft despite their size… I couldn’t think what I would do if I lost their usage.

"Blemishes do not bother me, but something that might cost me speed or strength is to be avoided." I smiled "A Camellia might not be suitable for their profession with one. In my case it is literal life and death."

“Of course,” I conceded with a sigh. “You know, I volunteered for the war in Kebbel. But I was begged not to go, and I obeyed. It’s always been a regret of mine, really.”
Oh bullocks – he would tell me I was a coward, when I’d simply obeyed the woman who had sheltered me and cared for me, out of love.

I rolled my shoulders "War is an ugly business. The books that all the historians and poets writ never manage to really convey that fact. There is not a lot of glory involved really."

“I do not seek glory, Gad. Now, even less than before,” I added humbly, taking one last sip. “I’ve only had one passion, that is to heal, and to seek better ways to do so – and even that, is not a quest for recognition.”
True enough – my quest was only to keep peace for my loved ones.

I nodded my head and toasted him with my water "Here, here."

The night was wearing on, and so I paid my tab, and said, “Well, Gadleon, shall we call it a night? Not that I don’t enjoy your company, but duty calls.”
And it was true. There were samples in that lab of mine that really, really needed to be tested.

"Sure" I rose to my feet and stretched. "Thank you for the company and conversation Siegfried."

"Same here," I replied as I straightened up to leave. Silently we cut through the crowd, and once on the street, I extended my hand to him. "It was a privilege to meet you. Don't be a stranger, Gadleon - you know where to find me for drinks."

I firmly shook his hand "Same to you Siegfried." I then quietly took my leave. A few drinks and I was not even limping on the toe anymore.
