Chuckled "If you only knew how often I need stitched." It was true after all, he had not seen anything but my foot so the scar on my face was the only evident thing. There was the virtual road map of formerly torn flesh under my shirt. I suspected it would age me fast ultimately. My life would most likely be short and very bright.

I shrugged. "If you only knew how often I stitch," I replied evenly. It was true - stitching was only the beginning - then, there were amputations, cesarean surgeries, and so many other things... his little boo boo was no big deal, really - though I suspected he knew as much.
"Is there someone, to worry about how often you get stitched?" I asked without looking at him. He had the air of the daredevil, and I was curious as to how much bravado he would display, really.

"Yes, there is one who is very concerned about how often I get nicked." The thought of julie brought a smile to my face "She is an incredibly understanding sort though." Kushiel knew I was an incredibly difficult person to love at the end of the day.

"Good, then I shouldn't have too much stitching to do," I replied, letting the matter drop - his personal life was his to keep, after all.
"Understanding is good," I replied quietly - that reminded me of Rae, and her need for Mandrake. Yes, one needed patience, to make it work.

I chuckled at that “Gods I need understanding. My tastes as I am sure you can imagine get a bit out there on occasion.” I took another sip “Of course stitches normally come from someone trying to kill me or an over energetic cousin.”

“Befits your family’s reputation,” I said blandly, “If you’ll forgive my straightforward ways.”
I didn’t want to say more – the thought occurred to me that his over-energetic cousin could well be the one I’d been asked about – but then I kept it quiet, and kept a semblance of indifference.
“Any one tried to kill you, recently?” I asked after a contemplative moment.

"Not since I came to the City. I had a small brawl with my lady's older brother but neither of us were taking it very seriously." I crinkled my nose a bit at Julie's reaction to that "Though I suspect I will probably asking him for a drink soon." I motioned to the room "Such decor is good for male bonding yes?"

I lifted a brow in curiosity, "Jealous older sibling?"
I looked about the place, and said, "Yes - it is. No doubt, he won't be thinking you're trying to court him if you take him here," I said with a chuckle.

I snorted "No, he just thinks he has a longer phallus than me so I of course have to show him, well then he shows me, I show him, he shows..." I coughed. "You, get the idea. Male pride explains it in a nut shell. Probably a bit of similar personality traits between him and I at the root of the issue."

"Ah." I replied, non-plussed. "So you will take him to the best place there ever was for prick-waving, in an effort to show him... what?"
I leaned against the bar, smirking a little. He was definitely younger than I - and that amused me greatly.

"That mine is bigger of course" I said with the calmest of expressions. That was not all of it exactly but I did not need to pour out my entire soul to one I just met.

I just laughed. It was funny as hell, but since I had no mind to insult him, I only added, grinning, "Fair enough - though that one-toothed lass out there would likely be interested in such news."

I did not even blink. One doe snot spend time in the military and not develop a thick skin and quick wit "They tell me gums are very nice though I reckon since she just has one that I should enlist the aid of the physician and have the last removed thus eliminating any possibility of damage to one's sensitive and tender bits. Mayhap then it would be about like a new born calf nursing a tit."

"At your service," I said, grinning wide and feeling another laughter buidling in my gut. I looked at the lass in question, and said, "Shall we, doll?" as I gave her a toothy grin. She cowered in the corner, and left.

Now that made me laugh, deep and heart felt of course I was feeling my cups as well. "And to think they say my family scares people."

"Let's just say you and I are a good combination for that," I offered amicably. I couldn't resist teasing him, and I added, looking at him in mock disbelief, "You scare people, you?"

I blinked a few times and sipped my mug seeming to consider "Well Valerians seem to really enjoy the affect."

Valerians are afraid of a lot of things, I thought. Besides, it was well known that the subs had the higher hand in such games, contrary to appearances.
I took a swig of ale, and grinned. "They certainly have a tough hide, I'll give them that," I commented.

"A birth rite I suppose though I can relate. It is really two sides of the same coin one just has to get used to it enough to recognize the fact." I then shifted topics as our conversation seemed to lag "Have any other questions about the culture of your people on your mind?"

"Yes, plenty, as I said, I'm rather unlearned, since I was raised D'Angeline... Tell me of the political structure, if you will..."
A rather abrupt change of subject, I noted - bah, callous wasn't necessarily bad.

I inclined "It is based on democracy really around a gathering called an All Thing or Thing for short. Basically it can be on a large level or at the steading level. They get together, discuss, have the required drinking and brawls and ultimately come to a decision. Of course with all the disparate voices it is probably no wonder they have issues with unity"

"As often as possible" I grinned and raised my mug to him "with vigor." I took a sip "The only real taboo is the man acting as the woman in a relationship. So from that I gather that two men is a no, no. But I really do not know much more details on the subject than that."

I nodded, taking note. "Huh. Not as sophisticated as the D'Angelines, then..." I grinned, happy of my fate. I'd never quite regretted my choice to identify myself as a D'Angeline, even if my urges were rather different. I did the occasional plundering, and was blessed with a partner who enjoyed it - but that was it. And it seemed my dislike of man on man action was mayhap in my blood. Fair and well. "Never been much into that stuff," I said off handedly at Gad's attention - after all, he didn't seem to be of that sort either.

"No, me neither" the thought of how wrong it all went with a woman included as well passed through my mind and I stifled it. "Of course to each their own I suppose. But other than that I suppose the Skaldia are as randy as your average D'Angeline they just seem to not be quite as open about it as best as I can tell."

I chuckled, not really commenting on it – that sounded like me alright.
I finished my drink, and looked up at Gad, “Well, another order, or shall we call it a night?”

I chuckled, and gestured for water for him, and another ale for myself. I could take more before I was fuzzy headed. I couldn’t resist but tease him… “and what are you afraid to do, should you become fuzzy headed?”

“Would be indeed a sad fate – though in battle, you also risk such a thing,” I pointed out practically. I thought a moment, and said, “You know, properly tended, a broken arm would only delay your practice, not end your sword wielding days.”
He had a scar on his face – he’d already taken risks. I wonder what kind of surgeon they had back on the border.
