It had been a long ride. Not to mention hot and dirty. Even the buckskin stallion was relatively calm due to fatigue from long days on the rode. The my sword hung from the saddle pommel and swayed with the animal’s gate as we made our way through the early morning streets of the City of Eula and up to the stable. Then I dismounted with the obvious stiffness of one who has ridden long and hard. Not to mention the layer of dust that covered me as I reached and retrieved my sword fastening it to my belt. The youth at the stable made his way up to me and I handed him the reigns. “Morning, I will need a permanent stall for him and a place for my tack.” The lad took the reigns and replied. “Of course my lord.” I gave a small smile to him and added. “And be mindful of him. When he is not quite so tired he bites.” And with that I made my way through the waking streets of the city.
I had, had my belongings sent ahead when I left the army and had my factor arrange a house in which to reside. I also had passed word to an old friend that I would soon be making my way to town. A smile creased my lips as I passed early rising trade’s people as well as those who had been out late the night the night before. It was quite refreshing to be back in civilization and off the frontier. The decision to leave the army was mayhap a wise one. Though we shall see if I find gainful employ before my funds run dry. I found the office my factor had directed me to easy enough and made my way in. A quite comely lass with deep brown eyes was behind the counter. She was certainly a site after my travels.
“Morning My Lady, I am Gadleon Shahrizai and I believe you have some keys for me to pick up.” I gave her one of my crooked smiles and her cheeks colored as I saw her eyes dart to the scar on my left cheek. Mayhap it would bother some, but I am not that vain. I happen to think the scar adds character and perhaps that was the wound she was directed to recognize me by. “Of course Moisure Shahrizai. You are paid up for the next six months and here is your key.” She handed me the key as I could see her bite the corner of her cheeks and look decidedly at her desk. The action most evident when she said my last name mayhap the Shahrizai tendancy to walk on the wild side his her thinking things she is not terribly comfortable with. I find that all rather intriguing as I give her a smile and a wink. “Thank you ma’am if there is anything else you require of me for a while I believe you know where I live.” With that she her breath caught a bit as I turned to make my way to my new home her reaction being more than a little bit refreshing.
The townhouse was exactly what I wanted. Within walking distance of the stables with a small garden at the rear where I could stay in shape with my blade work as well as my calisthenics. It had a well appointed sitting room, bedroom, and kitchen. Not overtly large but cozy. I hung my sword and twin daggers on the hooks on the wall while considering alternate routes of escape in the event of trouble. Such things come natural to one who has served on the boarder lands. I then set about stripping to my undergarments and preparing to freshen up. That was clearly the first order of business.
