Name: Baron Èdouard de Laurent
Age: 26
Race: D’Angeline
Gender: Male
Appearance:
It is without doubt that Èdouard has Eiran blood coursing through his veins. The thick fiery waves upon his head give away a major portion of his heritage. The azure color of his handsomely almond-shaped eyes is surrounded by a thin ring of mahogany. His red brows are not immediately noticeable, but are still present upon his comely portrait. Standing 6’0”, Èdouard has the fit look of a soldier with only a slight air of aristocracy; a strong, bold figure.
Background:
It is in Marsilikos where the Baron de Laurent was born. The first son to a sea captain and his fiery Eiran bride, his first years took place not in a crib of silk and satin but in a rented apartment above a bakery in the prosperous port city. After a few long years of taking to the waves, the Captain Laurent’s reputation grew among the higher ranking peers of Terre d’Ange. His services were sought after by many a nobleman wanting passage to foreign lands. His business grew, and his wallet along with it. It was not long before the Captain’s services were rewarded by the royals, and he was bestowed with the title of Baron, and given a beautiful piece of land only miles from the port city. But what was a man of the sea supposed to do with land? He entrusted this new gift to his Eiran wife, who settled easily to it, raising Èdouard along with the eight siblings to come after him.
They were never too rich to not understand budgets, but it was rather a pleasant state of living. Èdouard’s mother raised her children on stories of Eire, and of Blessed Elua’s travels. When his father was home, he also had plenty of tall tales. Èdouard was schooled as any member of nobility. As he grew into a young man, he found that he was quite fond of the written word, dancing and swordsmanship. He privately wrote poetry and prose in his free time, while management of the small estate took up the rest of his time. Unlike his father and siblings, he found that he was not at all fond of the sea. Like most of his traits, this trait came from his mother who always laughed at how she and her husband were so different. She grew to dislike the sea because it was, as she would say, Captain Laurent’s other lover.
The Captain’s love affair ended in betrayal, when the sea took him the spring of Èdouard’s 24th year. That was also the year in which he met Charlotte. After months of mourning, Èdouard decided to attend a local winter fete, at which he looked up from his drink to gaze at the most gorgeous woman he’d ever seen. She was the daughter and heiress to a Vicomte of Siovale, staying in Marsilikos with a cousin for a year. It was not long before Èdouard began courting her, and before they fell madly in love with one another. The pain of his father’s death faded, and all he ever could think about was her. It was rumored that Èdouard was only interested in Charlotte’s inheritance, but their friends knew better than anyone that, that was not the case at all. These rumors spread quickly, reaching the ears of her father before Èdouard could intervene. Denied the right to Charlotte’s hand in marriage, they secretly planned to elope to La Serenissima. She would go by ship before him, and he would follow once he had made plans to temporarily leave the estate to his younger brother.
The sea is a cruel thing.
Before he touched foot on his ship to La Serenissima, he learnt of the treacherous storm that swallowed the ship his love had taken. After that, everything changed. He wanted to get as far away from the damned sea as he could. In a terrible state, he left Marsilikos and the sea behind. Inland. To the City of Elua. His younger brother, steward of the estate, sent preparations ahead of him to purchase a small town house. Perhaps there he could find peace from the treacherous sea.
