I was drowsy.
Dressed in the olive green finery Joras had prepared, I sat in the carriage, leaning against the headrest. Cascata was off, exploring the mysteries of Mont-Nuit - I assumed I would see her at the Fete.
I’d let Mirielle know to take her own carriage, mostly to spare her the sight of my sedated self. She had been generous, good, precious. There was no reason that she endure more drama on my behalf.
The opium smoke felt heavy in my lungs, it also tasted sour on my tongue, and my head was heavy, very heavy. Thankfully, the worst of it would wear out by the time I arrived at Taurique Estate.
I closed my eyes, sparing a smile for the silent and faithful Jebean at my side. He’d agreed to tag along, and make sure I did nothing to disrupt Duc L’Envers and his lovely bride’s wedded bliss.
In the meantime, I let the carriage lull me a little. This would be a long day, and solely the promise of dancing with Mirielle kept me steady. Gods, I hoped I would have the physical prowess to do it.
We needed some wedded bliss of our own, no doubt.
