"I have," I replied quizzically, then decided it didn't matter. "Valerian, Eglantine, Balm, Dahlia.... I've done them all, save Mandrake," I told her quietly, waiting to see how she would react to it.

I raised my brows at my brother's mention of the houses he visited. I knew he enjoyed company, but I didn't know he had been that busy. Of course he had spent more time in this city than I had. I noticed he had not chosen Mandrake, I wondered what he'd thought of his little sister letting a Mandrake dominate her. I decided that it was an answer I could do without for now.
Trying to hold back a blush, but not being able to hold back my curiosity, "does one house seem better than the other?" I then quickly added, "I only ask because if I visit a second I want to make sure I visit one that I will enjoy."

"Well...." I paused, thinking. "You know, this all dates from my first visit here, some years ago. But Eglantine had proven to be very innovative - Jasmine, as well, was sublime for its passion. Although," I paused again, "I'm not sure what your tastes run in, so it's not easy for me to give you counsel."

I sighed, though it wasn't that painful of one. "I don't even know where my interests lie. Perhaps I should visit each of the houses as well and see what intrests me the most." I then smiled, somewhat of a silly one and added, "if anything it will keep me out of trouble. Though I don't think spending all of the estate money in the night court would make me a good Marquise."

I grinned, highly amused at Cascata's projects. "Well, I'll tell you what," I said mischievously, "Balm you have already tried, that leaves 12 assignations, should you try each of them," I thought aloud. "If you go once a month, in the year, you will be done with your explorations at a reasonable rate, and your estate will be intact. If you are in a hurry, I'll give you a pre-emptive birthday present, and pay for your next one... which leaves the fascinating question : which House is next?"

I smiled at Gil's plan. It was a good ideal and I could fill my curiosities. I looked up as I thought, running the different houses through my mind. "I don't know I told him." Then a thought came to me, the ideal a bit silly, "since you have made such a kind offer I will visit Camellia, the house without flaw. Then you could say you offered me a perfect gift."

I laughed softly, and nodded. "Camellia it is,then," I noted it on my pad, not to forget to budget the expense.
"Did you have anyone in mind?" I asked absently as I made the note.

"No," I told him, "I don't even know any Camellia adepts." Even though my probably already knew I added, "I would strongly prefer a male."

I smiled, and whispered a tease, “How convenient, that you and I have different tastes!”
In truth, I didn’t care at all – even if Cascata were to go to Mandrake… it would be her business, though anyone who caused her pain unduly would find that contact with my fist could be rather unpleasurable. My little sister was too precious to be hurt.
“Well, when you go, simply have the Dowayne send me the bill, and I will take care of it.” I grinned, highly amused, and added, “I shall expect a full report!” Though I knew she would shudder at the thought – and so would I. I teased her, she didn’t share, and I was thankful for it – such was her and I – brother and sister.

I folded my arms at Gil's jest for a full report. I then winked and said, "I don't think, dear brother, that you would truly want a full report of the things I do in the bedroom."
In truth I hadn't really done anything that outrajeous, at least not yet.

"Not, not truly," I replied with a grin. "But how I do love to tease you," I added, leaning in to pinch her cheek as our aunts did where we were children.
I smiled, and said, "I'm glad you came back. You cheered me up, really," I said warmly.

I frowned at Gil when he pinched my cheek, but in reality I wasn't that unhappy with him. I then smiled and said, "I am happy to be of service," I said. "I can't have you moping around all the time."

"I can't have me moping around all the time either," I replied with a grin, though I felt my sadness creeping in. "But I can't have me not working all the time either - I need to write back to a few people, including the Marquise...." a thought occured to me, and I added, "would you have me tell her anything, while I'm at it?"

I thought for a moment and then asked, "did you tell her about your curse?"

I paused.
"No, Cascata, I did not, and do not intend to. The only breathing being who know of it are yourself, To-Biko, and Mirielle. Mother would have no use for such knowledge," I said, trying to keep the edge off my voice, softening it as I asked, "Why would I?"

I held back a giggle, Gil had misunderstood me. "I meant Miri," I said, "I wouldn't expect you to tell mother. Oh gods, I wouldn't tell her anything like that." Gil had still answered my question and I asked, "how did she react to your confesssion?"

"Fear, and understanding," I think. "She did not forsake me for it, if that is what you ask. She forsook me for the love I feel for her."
My hand went to my chest as I spoke - the remembrance was like an old wound - reopened, it caused pain, a great deal of it.

I frowned slightly, "she forsook you for the love you felt for her?" I thought back to Miri at Balm. It was hard to picture her doing as such. I guess at times people don't undersigned what they want. "Perhaps she is simply worried of commitment," I said, "if so I do believe she will come around and show her love for you."

"Only time will tell, Cascata," I replied wearily. "In the meantime, no use over-thinking such a thing, really none," I said softly. "But thank you - it has a heartening feel to it, prettiness."

I smiled, one that was to comfort him and to hope for the best. I then got up and gave him a warm hug. "I hope things do turn the better for you soon brother. I am a lucky girl, having a brother as caring as you."

I returned her hug warmly, caressing her back a little as I did. "Likewise, really, sweet Cascata. Never hesitate, you know where to find me, don't you?"

I winked, and sat behind my desk once more. "Off you go, sister, I have work to do," I said in a gruff way that was all jest.

I laughed at Gil's little command. "Yes, sir" I said in mock obedience. Though I did turn tail and walk out of his office. It had been an interesting conversation to say the least. I decided to retire to my chambers and think on it. There were a million thoughts running through my head. My mother, Gil, the promises of a future adept. Life can be confusing at times.
