I didn't really know what I was doing here, except that I was bored at my house and I wasn't really close to anyone or have anywhere to go. I was good at being a physician and bad at being a friend. I knew it was true and I knew it was why I was good at healing arts. I was looking for something to do with my free time, and being an adept, while fulfilling, still left me somewhat empty. I missed my family, I missed their clinic, and I missed helping those who couldn't afford me heal.
That's what brought me to this clinic. I was looking to somehow help out here, to use my skills. I wanted my own clinic, or to help in my parent's one day and I thought that this was a step in the right direction.
So I walked in, uninvited and without an appointment, hoping for something I knew full well I might not get. I walked up to the woman at the front desk. "Hello, I'd like to inquire about possible open positions, I'm an adept from Balm." I said in a soft, melodious voice.

It had been a week after the Coronation, and rested from all the time off I had to enjoy with Raegan, I was sitting in my office, between two appointments.
Joelle came in, a quizzical look on her face. "M'Lord, there is here an adept, Violette, from Balm house. She says she is inquiring about a possible position."
My restful expression was replaced a look of surprise, and I removed my feet from my desk. "Well, when is our next appointment, Joelle?"
She looked at her pad. "My Lady Dorcimas is due in 30 minutes for a change of dressing, My Lord."
I shrugged. "It's her lucky day, then. Send her in."
And as Joelle left, I heard her quiet voice telling her flatly, "Doctor de Strasbourg will see you in his office."
I sat straight, waiting for her to enter, and curious as to what she had to offer.

I smiled and bowed my head slightly to the woman, "Thank you," I said quietly and walked in the direction she had pointed to.
I stepped inside an office where a rather tall man was sitting, "Hello, my name is Violette no Balm," I curtsied towards the man in the chair. I rose slowly looking directly at him, I gave a gracious smile and spoke in a soft soothing voice, pitching it so it was audible to him. "I was wondering if you had any available positions, I have found myself with a bit of free time on my hands and I would really enjoy working in a clinic such as this. I've worked in a physician's office before, actually I grew up around it. My parents own one in Eisande."

I stood as she entered, and looked at the girl. She was pretty, and looked kind to match. "My Lady of Balm, please, have a seat," I said, noticing she was still standing.
"I am Lord Siegfried de Strasbourg, although in here, they call me Doctor," I added by way of introduction.
As she spoke, I listened, paying heed to what she had to say. "My Lady of Balm, pray tell, is your marque complete?" It was paramount information to have - I had no desire to anger the Dowaynes, no matter how interesting her offer could be.

I stood still, my lips slightly pursed and a determined look entered my face as he asked about my marque. I had had plenty of opportunities to complete it, and the money had not be squandered, or used needlessly. I stood by what I had spent it on. My family, and charity, and homage to Namaah.
"No, but I am not asking for money. Simply something to do that I enjoy and is useful. Since money is not involved, I don't think it truly matters to my house, although I will ask permission from the Dowayne if you ask it of me." I saw myself losing control over the situation, truthfully I was probably about two patrons away from completing it, but I said nothing about it, and instead held my head high and waited for his answer.

Years of practice came together as the adept spoke, her voice quivering a little the tell-tale sign of edging distress.
With a warm smile, I extended a hand to her. "Violette no Balm, I am sorry to ask, but it is very important information for me to determine what I can, and cannot, offer in task," I explained.
"In truth, there would likely be enough work for one such as you to be here, and assist, but if your marque is incomplete, I would make sure that you do not provide services that your house would normally require payment for," I told her with a warm smile.
"Come, let me show you the practice," I added.

I took his hand and although my hand was soft, my grip was firm and I shook it by way of introduction. "I ask no less, I will not jip my house. They have made a good deal of ducats on me as it is, by me not completing my marque." These words were true, I had amply paid more than my room and board for use of my skills. Unlike most other adepts of my house, I had been born into healing by both parents and my training had started the day my eyes opened and not the day I arrived at my house.
I gave him a small smile, "I would love to see the rest of the clinic." If nothing else, this had given me a goal to complete my marque.

"Lovely," I told her. Standing up, I opened the door to the examination room. "This is where minor procedures take place," I told her.
In a corner, a basin was set, with impecable linen cloths to the side. The main piece of the room was an examination table, covered in white sheets, with a small pillow for comfort.
At the back of the room, a cupboard kept ointments and instruments, all sparkling clean - I was adamant about hygiene in the clinic.
"Feel free to have a look, and do tell me what you are familiar with," I added kindly.

I glanced around the room, it was sterile, and held little character. All white, and no color. I walked towards the back of the room, opening the cabinet that seemed to have all the instruments and salves.
One by one, I picked up what was in the cabinet starting with the medical jars, and began to name off what it was and uses.
The first jar was easy. I untwisted the top and smelled anyway just to make sure. "Aloe Vera, good for minor burns, cuts and scraps helps to heal the wound." I closed the top tightly and laid it on a table off to the side. Picking up the next bottle, I unscrewed the top and did the same, and one after another I began to open bottles and jars, say the name and use, screw the tops back in place, and place it neatly on the table besides me.
"Witch hazel astringent; good for cleaning wounds and killing off infection. The extract contains substances which tend to constrict the blood vessels with the effect of preventing bleeding. Tea can also makes a great insect repellent. A mix of Virgin Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba, Plantain, Calendula flower, Confrey herb, Chickweed herb, Lavender, Witch Hazel, Rose Petals, Lavender, and Tea Tree; excellent for minor cuts, insect bites, diabetic sores, skin rashes, and foot fungus. Calendula oil; anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, helps heal wounds, is useful for bed sores, broken veins, bruises, and varicose veins. It is found to be wonderful for rashes, dry, chapped, or cracked skin. It is especially useful for dry eczema. Rosemary; has been know to helps with hypotension, fatigue, menstrual cramps, gout, weakness of limbs and it makes a great skin toner."
I smiled wryly at the thought of using it as a skin toner, but it was true. "Also helps with mental fatigue, nervous tension, stress hysteria, grief, apathy and lethargy. Tea Tree oil; known to aide with cuts, abrasions, insect bites, burns, ulcers, cold sores, herpes, boils, nail infections, fungus of the foot, ringworm, varicose veins and parasites. It has been recognized to help with general debility, post shock and nervous exhaustion. Bearberry; leaves of the plant are used as astringent, diuretic and tonic. A tea made from the leaves is used for bronchitis, nephritis and kidney stones. Blood Flower; effective in removing warts. Chickweed; the infusion from this plant is used for sores, skin affections and blood disorders. Thyme; Tonic from this plant is good for the stomach and nerves. A decoction added to bath water stimulates the flow of blood to the surface and relieves nervous tension. An infusion relieves the pains and headaches of a hangover. Heartease; used for dropsy, respiratory and eye problems. Valerian; relieves pain, nervous conditions, migraines, and insomnia. The roots of the plant are ground and used as medicine. Sweet clover; used medicinally to prevent blood clotting and for poultices and salves. Also said to useful in treating arthritis and rheumatism. Ivy; can be used to make a syrup to relieve colds."
My mouth had gone dry with the effort of speaking each name and explanation. I turned to face the doctor and gave him a smile, "Should I go on to the instruments?"

I laughed heartily. She was impressive, a witch with the ointments, if ever there was one.
"Violette no Balm, I am highly impressed, visibly you have been in a place such as this before," I told her. "I had a mind to take on an apprentice to work on new salves and ointments, and I doubt your Dowayne would have take issue with your playing in my laboratory. I have a large project that could use a hand, if you are willing to help me with working on a new salve," I added.
"And for the sake of it, as long as we are working together, let us shed etiquette, and please call me Siegfried," I said in a happy laughter. I strode over to the office as I spoke, and got a glass of fresh water.
"I think you might need this after the extensive demonstration you just gave me, don't you?"

I laughed, "I grew up in a place such as this, and made ointments as soon as I could walk. I would be honored to help." I said and took the glass of water, drinking deeply. "Would you like me to put all this a way?" I waved hand over the table of jars and bottles, "although I'm not sure which way you would like it."

I chuckled, "You can help, let us do it together," I replied warmly, though it was really because I did not want her in a serving positon. "There is no real order, as you noticed when you took them out," I told her as I put back the first pot in the cupboard.
"If you are interesting in developping the ointments, then it would be best you see my laboratory, which is at my house," I added absently. "Although, really, we can finish first with the rest of the visit. You should meet Docteur Deleuze, if you are to become part of our family," I added.

I smiled and started putting the ointments away, I was starting to warm up to him, although I was still being reserved about it in my demeanor. I wanted to be seen as a professional, but I was sure he understood that. As I put the salves and herbs away, I methodically but them back in some sort of order, it this was a natural habit for me, and it took me barely any time at all, although with Sigfried helping, most of my organization wouldn't matter. I didn't mind one bit, this was his office, and it would work best the way he knew things to be. Had a it not been a natural unthough habit, I probably wouldn't have bothered, but I barely noticed into I was mostly done.
"I would like to meet this Docteur and am very curious to see your laboratory. I really do enjoy working with ointments," generally because people don't seem to like me that much, I thought, but I didn't say that. It was true I was withdrawn at times, "and I promise to work very hard to come up with the things you might need most."

I smiled kindly, "In truth, I am rather happy that you came, for I did have a mind to visit your House and see if some collaboration was possible," I said as I closed the cabinet.
"Follow me, I want to introduce you properly to the staff as well," and as we both left the room, and walked to the entrance, I told her, "Joelle Murat, this is Violette no Balm, she will be collaborating with us. Can you see if Deleuze is available for a small greeting ?"
"Errr, of course, welcome to the family, My Lady of Balm," Joelle said, "Docteur Deleuze is available, it will be just an instant."
Joelle gave me a quizzical look, and I ignored it. She had been flaky these past weeks, and I owe her no explanation.

"When then it turns out to be quite serendipitous it seems, we have discovered each other's needs unknowing." I followed him out of the office and smiled towards Joelle. "Joelle, it is nice to be introduced to you." I inclined my head slightly and waited for the other docteur's appearance.

"Serendipitous, indeed," I repeated with amusement, rolling the long word on my lips like candy. Violette had impeccable vocabulary, I noted.
A moment passed, and Deleuze came out, biding goodbyes to a very elderly gentleman. "And do not forget to use the ointment, My Lord," he said to his as he left.
Almost ignoring Violette, he said, "That one will drive me insane. He is half deaf, my boy," and then, suddenly realizing we had company, he found his decorum back, laughing at himself.
"And who do we have here?"
"Docteur Robert Deleuze, may I introduce Violette no Balm," I said in reply.
"Well met, Violette no Balm," he replied, inclining his head to her with a wide smile.

Deftly, I indicated to Robert that we should take this to his room, and he obliged, ushering us in gallantly.
"Our friend Violette, here, was offering her services, and has proven to be quite learned in the matters of the healing," I told him. "I had a mind that she may be of assitance with the ointments, and perhaps provide her expertise during procedures, should her Dowayne be interested in such a collaboration."
Deleuze grinned, and told her, "That is very lovely, Mademoiselle Violette, tell me, where did you learn such skill, aside from Balm House?"

"My parents are physicians, my father studied in the temple of Asclepius and my mother was a Balm adept before me. Healing was their gift to Elua, and I follow in their footsteps. Before I came to Balm I helped and learned from them in their own office in Eisande." I was gazing at Deleuze and smiling, I was a bit surprsied that me being from Balm house wasn't enough, but it didn't bother me over much. Healing was in my blood and pulsed in my veins.

Deleuze's pleasant smile never wavered, and told her, "Well, welcome to the practice, and thank you for bringing your expertise and learning to the table. And since we will be working together, please, call me Robert," and as he said it, I stifled a hearty laugh, for he was crooning, quite litterally, and it was the second time this week I saw him do the trick.
I could not blame him, though, for Violette was rather pretty, and had I not been enthralled to my Sweet Rae, I may yet have yearned for her lovely attentions. But Deleuze, ah! he made me laugh all the more, for really, he had no idea that I had seen him leave the Coronation in elegant company.

"Thanks you Doct, Robert." I paused changing the name in the middle of my sentence. It was odd calling a physician by his name. I gave a glance to Siegfried and gave a uncertain smile towards him.

"Very well," I concluded, my smile frank and reassuring to Violette. "Deleuze, unless there is anything else?"
He paused, and gave me a simple order, "Yes, make sure Davet is in agreement with this."
As I nodded, he continued, "Hop along, son," gruffly turning back to his papers, "Violette, I will see you soon," and he gave us a little dismissive wave of the arm.
I led Violette out of his office, chuckling over his manners. When we were out, I grinned. "Don't worry, he is a good man, only a little rough around the edges."
In the waiting room, I noticed my patient was there, and I gave him a nod of acknowledgment, and guided Violette back into my office.
"As you noticed, I just got strict orders from my mentor to obtain your Dowayne's agreement," I told her. "I think it would be best if you asked Davet for permission, since his permission is contigent on Deleuze's."

I pursed my lips, in slight dissapproval, but nodded. Davet was a good Dowayne, but what his concerns were with my free time, as long as I didn't injur myself, well it was my free time after all.
"I will request it of him." I nodded and smiled. "It was nice to meet you and see your office. I thank you for it."

"It was a pleasure," I told her in reply. "There is still the laboratory, and no matter what your Dowayne says, it isn't forbidden for you to visit, so do let me know when it is possible," I added, my smile a little wan.
I was disappointed, though I understood that my mentor was being cautious. "That also won't mean you can't visit once in a while, and have heated discussions about our favorite trade," and my smile grew, trying to comfort her visible disappointment.

I returned his smile slowly, "Yes I shall, it was a pleasure meeting you and your coworkers." I curtsied gracefully and turned out of his office. Well this was a set back, it was my own free time after all, it's not like I was going to make ducats off of it. I'd just have to speak to my Dowayne then.
