"Of course." I agreed. "I'm sure you won't need it, but if you need a hand organizing it, don't hesitate to ask."

"Oh, I won't," I told her with a smile, knowing as well as she did that if her help became necessary I would be on my deathbed; there was no way my pride would allow such a thing for any less.

It really was too easy to use pride...
"You are brimming with ideas already?"

"I was actually thinking of keeping it simple, letting the main attraction be the interactions," I told her with a smile. "Besides, the circulating adepts should provide amusement for at least a little while, if not longer."

I outright grinned at that. "Very true. Well, I shall look forward to it. Gods know, I doubt Gabriel will shut up about it."

"I hope it lives up to the hopes everyone has," I said with a smile. "I know how- finicky- some of our cousins can be in those regards."

I chuckled. "Oh yes. I can but wish you luck in that respect. And if someone is being too much of a pill, just let me know." I smiled dangerously. "I'll straighten them out."

"You're too kind," I replied happily, glad to see I'd have her support in this. "And is there anything in particular you'd like, Anacrasia? A morsel I could hide away from the others?"

"Not any at the moment. Just let me know if I can get there early, take a look around before the rest of the family arrives." I told her with a smile, eyes flashing with the tease.

"Oh, but for the Matriarch all doors are open," I replied in the same sort of tease, lowering my gaze in something like a curtsey but more fawning; a mockery of the flattery I saw other, weak nobles dispensing to stronger ones.

I chuckled at her mock brown-nosing. "And what about you? Have a favourite you'll tie down until you can finish with your hostess duties?"

Laughing lightly I shook my head. "For fear of the teasing it will bring down upon me I have to admit I haven't had a chance to make it to Valerian as yet," I told her. "Other things have been keeping my attention. Besides, a hostess must always let her guests have the first portions."

I had a passing interest in what had kept her so occupied, but I didn't pry.
"Valerian is meant to be a treat. I'm afraid some of the family... overuse the House." I grinned then. "And since when have the Shahrazai played fair, even the hosts?"

"Very true," I agreed. "But since I've never been I don't know yet that there will be someone I wish to keep safely tucked aside. Perhaps, when I visit, I'll find one."

"Perhaps." I agreed. I idly thought of Malabelle, and the Valerian that had been fawning on her at the last fete. Which led to the most unpleasant thought of Dominic, and the lawyer I had a meeting with soon. "But then, perhaps family suits you more." It was a statement, without any implications from tone or gesture.

"Perhaps," I replied simply, keeping the same tone. It wasn't so unknown among us- sometimes, the only person who could understand you was another of your kind, who felt the same way about certain things. "Though I do promise to keep expanding my repetoire."

"Perhaps a little," I agreed with a smile. "But then I really must be off. Business calls, as usual." My face fell into a slight grimace at the idea of work, but I wasn't truly loathing it- it was a reaction of principle.

I poured her a healthy half cup, even as I said, "But of course. Business is well?"

"Oh yes," I replied with a smile. "Our mares are starting to breed and soon we'll have new hunter-foals, which some seem to prize very highly. I was hoping this year to get a few more Tsingani mares to breed in to try and pretty them up a bit, but their spirit and power must always come first."

The thought of horses brought back found memories of a summer's day many years ago. But I kept my mind to task. "Of course. I'm sure you could breed the most beautiful foals, but it would be easier if you didn't have to search for the most gullible to sell them too." I smiled slightly. "But, and I am sorry to be so blunt about this, how goes the business of getting an heir?"

"I'm being patient," I told her sweetly, cocking my head sideways as I inwardly wondered what this was about. "Of course I know my duty to the family by expanding our claims but my few attempts have gone- somewhat awry. It seems I'm not to taste for most of these soft City nobles."

For a moment I was nearly absorbed by fear, anger and curiosity, but successfully pushed everything down. After all, just because she chose someone to try didn't mean I couldn't have my fun on the side. I would, though, listen carefully to her words and think on them. No doubt there was a point to be made here.
"Of course," I told her with a smile as I bit back a laugh. "I know you'd only pick out someone who suited me well."

"And you also know that it is merely a suggestion." I said easily, having expected to see the sting and not being let down. "Though I think you'll like him. At least enough to sink your nails into." I teased her gently.

"Ooh, that's promising," I teased lightly, raising a brow. "I'd be willing to meet him whenever you'd like, and I do promise to try and be on my best behavior- or my worst, whichever is most called for."

"I could ask for nothing more." I replied with a smile, thanking her for accepting the invitation. I sipped the last of my tea. "I shall send word, when I've arranged it. Or perhaps just let him do that, and you two can organize the meeting. I don't wish to pry into your schedule."

"Thank you," I replied, grinning. "Both plans are acceptable to me, but if you're worried I'll startle whoever it is off you may want to arrange it."
For a moment I watched her, then asked, "Am I going to be stepping on any toes?" I didn't mind competition with other women but it was best to be prepared. "Any girls chasing after him or who he's actively courting?"

Oh the tact of his family. Or at least most of them, I thought with the memory of Gadleon. She was asking if I had wanted to claim him.
"Not that I know of." I replied with a careless shrug. "I will have him drop you a line. I doubt you'll scare him off, he's a bold one. Well, scare him off immediately, that is." I teased her with a grin.

"Oh, if he waits that long to run I may just have to give chase on principle," I teased in return, resolving to do my best. "And bold- how? Do his tastes run parallel to ours, in the opposite direction or alongside? Anything that seems to particularly entice him?"
