Dearest Cousin, How goes life in the center of the civilized world? I long for the sounds of life and the excitement of the City and so am planning my return. Were I there, I would throw myself at your perfect feet and beg shelter beneath your roof, but I shall have to do it figuratively in absentia. I shall be arriving around the first of spring, and breathlessly await word of your decision.
Your humble and adoring cousin, Gabriel

The letter sat with a pile of others on my desk before the coronation, and I resigned spending a goodly portion of the afternoon responding to them all. I read Gabriel's words with a laugh. I had always enjoyed him, even though he represented a threat to my rule over the Shahrizai. It was no secret his mother was a child of my father, even though he never acknowledged her. But she smartly married back into the family whose patriarch would rather officially ignore her, and so my newphew came to be. I dipped my pen in the inkwell before me, and replied. My dear Gabriel, Of course you may stay here. If you're quick about it, I'll see you before the coronation ceremony. If not, I'll have my staff prepared to ready you for the fete, should you wish to attend. Have a safe journey.
