Dearest Raegan,
Eight days have passed I last saw your face, and I am haunted by the memories of our time together.
You have set ablaze a part of me which I thought was dead, and I come to you this day, urging you for patience.
I am in need to find my bearings, and will disappear from your view a short moment, but do not beleive you will be rid of me so easily. I leave you with the intention to return to you, if you will have me then.
In the meantime, should any ill befall you, send word to the Clinic. They are instructed to forward urgently any message you may send.
I beg you to be convinced of my entire devotion,
Your dedicated,
Siegfried de Strasbourg

I had read Siegfried's letter over and over until my fingers had begun to wear smooth spots on the parchment. The worry that I had been hiding from myself, that he never wanted to see me again, had come crashing upon me when I'd first held the letter and it had taken all my courage to open it.
Then the tears had come, relief mixed with an aching longing for him.
Later, I sat down to write a letter to him in return, but had been unable to find the right words. Words had never been my forte and again they failed me.
Finally, I penned a short note on my personal stationary and sent it off to be delivered to the clinic, and forward to him.

Dearest Rae,
Your note has soothed my heart.
I will soon return to town, and would be honored to have you on my arm at the coronation celebration.
Will you grant me this privilege?
I await patiently your pleasure,
Your devoted Siegfried.

Beloved Rae,
Not a day goes by that I think of you. I have made some professional commitments which I hope to get out of the way before the Coronation.
I love my work, but find that every moment spent away from you is a moment lost in oblivion, but the sole thought of seeing you again elates me and makes me strive.
What time may I come to pick you up on that much anticipated day?
Missing you as well,
Siegfried de Strasbourg

Reagan darling,
Your generosity touches me more then you can imagine, and your selfless abandonment in the face of necessity renders you more precious to me then anyother blessing you could bestow on me.
If you will have me, I will come to you several hours before sunset, for there is much I wish to tell you, and much of you that I wish to know.
I have included a token of my affection, hoping that it will please your exquisite taste.
Yours, truly,
Siegfried

The brooch had tumbled out into my hand when I'd opened Siegfried's letter, and several minutes had passed as I stared at it in awe. It was so lovely, surely this couldn't be meant for me to keep! And how could he possibly know how perfectly it would go with the dress I had purchased?
Finally, my eyes were drawn to the letter, though I am certain I neither breathed, nor did my heart beat as I read his words. My fingers curled protectively around the brooch without even realizing it.
After reading, rereading, and re-rereading his letter, I laid the parchment down and looked at the brooch again. My thumb gently caressed the exquisite craftsmanship, and a tender smile touched my lips.
I knew I should probably wait until the fete to wear it, but I just couldn't. Carefully, I pinned it on the inside of my dress, where the cool silver rest against my skin.
Then, selecting a sheet of my stationary, I penned a letter in return.

My dearest Rae,
Only the knowledge that you would love me less should I abandon my work on you behalf retrains me from coming to you this instant.
A few days are left, before my night ends and the sun rises.
I will be on the doorstep of your house at two hours before sunset. If you could be ready by then to go to the Fete, it would lift all the gloom of this pasts month, for I have a surprise for you.
I await your pleasure,
Siegfried
