"If you do, let me know," I said with a smile, "and we can stir some mischief."

I smiled at the idea, "Anything particular that you have in mind?"

I laughed. "Are you already restless? Well, that didn't take very long, did it?"

I laughed and sipped more ale, "I'm always restless, well no that's not true. I'm always up for adventure I should say. Heard any good stories? Mysteries to solve? Secret passages? I love that stuff."

"I do to, but I'll admit, even though I've been busy, I havent found anything of the sort just yet. Don't worry, though," I winked, "adventure and trouble always seem to find me."

"Oh that's good, I'll be sure to stick close then." I winked back and slid over in my chair as I saw Brian enter with Julie's maid Nicole. Brian took the seat next to me, and he didn't look very happy. "Fun trip?" I smiled brightly towards Nicole eyeing Julie.

I stifled a loud chuckle, as I stared into Nicole's bright eyes and she blushed to the tip of her ears. Whether Brian had enjoyed her presence, she had certainly been happy to be around him. "You seem to have had a good time, maybe we should leave the two of you alone," I told Brian with a wide grin.

Brian smiled politely at Julie, "While you're friend is quite the lovely companion, it's my duty to protect the lady Adrienne, and I really shouldn't be giving that burden onto you. The duty can be very dangerous and I need to put my full honor forth. I would be distraught if something were to happen to her and I could of done something to prevent it." He reached out a hand covering Nicole's with his own, "certainly you can understand that my lady? I read compassion and understanding throughout your beautiful face."
I nearly choked on my ale and coughed into my hand to keep from laughing outright. I looked towards Julie grinning and then rolled my eyes. Brian had been spending too much time with my brother lately, who I had been hearing, for more than a few years, was quite the charmer. He had used a similar line in front of me once to a lass at the fair.

Nicole looked at Brian with teary eyes, and nodded gravely. I downed my ale, gesturing to Nicole to sit by me, and as she did, I patted her knee. "I told you retainers were heart breakers, Nicole. Besides, you are well placed to know," I added, looking gravely into her eyes.
"I know My L.., Julie. You did tell me, and I did know enough," and staring blankly at Brian, she added, "but don't think I am as fragile as that. I can hold myself," she added.
I looked at Brian, sparing an apologetic look to Ambre, "I'm sorry, Brian - it just so happens retainers are a little bit distrusted in my house these days. It's no judgement on your person, though," I added with a small chuckle, one which Nicole joined in heartily, and I liked her more for it. She had not an inkling of spite.

My eyes widened as she mentioned having problems with retainers. All of ours had grown up with my family, either my generation, or my fathers, and were very loyal to our estate. "What happened?!"
Brian looked equally interested, and I was half fearful that it was something dreadful, and half hopeful it was some sort of mystery. I liked mysteries.

I blinked, far less exciting than I had hoped, but at least Julie didn't seem to distraught over it. "Why?"

"Because he loves me," I replied, blushing. My hand trembled a little, and I inhaled.

I burst out laughing thinking it a jest, and then stopped abruptly when I caught sight of Julie's blushing face, I turned suddenly somber. "Wait truly? But Elua bid us love as thou wilt? Why not protect and serve what you love?" I was confused, I could understand if Julie hadn't reciprocated, but the world was full of heart break, and love was the breath that kept us going. To abandon duty, and love, well it was beyond me.

I sighed. It was strange to share it with a stranger, but this was someone my age, and she seemed as wild as me.
"I'm not sure I understand either. He is driving me to the brink of insanity, to be sincere. He did leave a note."
I pulled out the letter from my inside pocket, and read aloud,"I'm sorry I had to leave suddenly, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. You're all I've wanted for the past two years, all I want now, but I must finish what I have started. I wish everything had turned out differently, and that instead of my geldings reins I was holding you, but it cannot be. I'm sorry Julie. I'll always love you, but you need to be free, and I need to attend my duties."
As I re-read his words of love, my lip trembled a little, and I took in a deep breath. Crying was out of the question.
"Do you make anything of it?"

Concerned washed over my face as I watched Julie carefully. I wasn't used to girls being upset around me, everytime I'd been upset I had been made fun of and critized by my brothers, so I didn't have a whole lot of experience, but damned if I wouldn't try.
I pushed my mug out of the way and leaned over the table towards her, and brushed her windswept hair past one of her ears gently. "Awww plum rose, it'll be ok. We all get our hearts broken, and we must be strong for those who are not strong enough to face their fears or desires. Did you love him too, that way?"
It still didn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but inquiring further wasn't going to make Julie happy, she could tell me when she was comfortable with it, or not at all. My thoughts no longer dwelled on her former retainer, but on my new friend and that's where my loyalties lied.
I hated when my friends were upset.

I smiled bravely at Ambre’s tender gesture of comfort. I’d cried enough as it was. This was a time for renewals, and new beginnings, though I knew the ache would stay in my heart a moment.
“I did, I’ll admit, love him dearly. But this,” I said as I pointed to the note I’d left on the table, “this, is making me reconsider. I don’t understand him at all. Love as thou willt? What is he thinking I don’t know. He isn’t even a Cassiline.”
I shrugged. “I’d rather not dwell on it,” I added. “I merely mentioned it so that this one, here,” I pointed to Brian, “understood it wasn’t about him at all. I do have quite a bit of energy to spend, though, and if you’re willing to tag along for some adventure, you are more then willing to do so.” A thought crossed my mind.
“You wield, don’t you?”

I was glad of the change of subject, it was better to forget it than to dwell on it and trying to figure out the whys and hows. I slid back into my seat and listened to Julie change the subject.
"I love adventure, but I don't see what wielding a sword has to do with anything." I laughed at my futile attempts against my brother when I was younger. "I'm not so good at it, to be honest. But I know the movements and basics." I smiled, "I didn't bring a weapon with me though. What are we doing with weapons again?"

I chuckled. "I was merely asking because I am in great need of a training partner. I taught myself a lot, and picked up some tricks from... a friend," I decided it would be, not wanting to say his name lest my composure fall apart again.
"If you're up to it, I'll teach you what I know, after lunch" I offered with a smile, "though I give you no garantees on the quality of my teaching skills. And in exchange, you will tell me what adventures you enjoy," I added as I gestured for a second ale.

I smiled. "Well I'm up to try again, although I think I was twelve when my mother grabbed the sword from my hand. She was still trying to get me under some sembelance of control at that point. I'm up for the challenge though."
With the next round of ale came our food, and I dug into it heavily, I was starving, manners aside. It seemed forever since we had first sat down here. It was pretty good, but whether it was good because I was hungry, or because it was actually good I couldn't tell.

The food came, and I ate. I did try to restrain my tavern habits. My arrival at the Cockeral was not far in my memory - and I remembered that I was now expected to behave as a lady, though being at a roadside in was making it more difficult to resist the temptation.
"I can't believe you mother took your sword from you. I don't know what I would have done if my father had done the same," I replied with a frown. "So, tell me, what kind of adventure do you seek," my eyes sparkling with curiosity as I asked.

I laughed. "I have three brothers, I should be able to rely on them for protection." Taking a bite out of bread, I chewed it slowly thinking about everything I wanted to be able to do in my life. "I'd like to travel. See the open sea go to different countries like Tiberium, and Kriti. I like solving things too, I want to see mysterious and cultures. Things we don't see here in Terre d'Agne. Do you want to go on adventures too?"

I had shrugged at Ambre's comment. I had three brothers, all well able to protect me, and I'd had Jonas. This was both about self-sufficience, and fun. No matter, I thought merrily, to each his own.
"I would love to travel," I agreed with a nod, "and to explore. Samuel's letter entice me and make me dream. When Kendrick travelled to Alba for his studies, I was green with envy. But I'll admit to you, I'm very physical, and I like to get rowdy once in a while, more then to dive in books." I thought a moment. "We would probably be complementary if we went on a crusade for adventure."

"That is a good question. I've not been very abreast of the recent events, the last few days have been very eventful on a personnal level. " I took a sip of ale, "I guess there are plenty of places to go to, Menekhet, Kriti, Aragonia - oh, they have fantastic swordmanship there - and of course, La Serenissima." Tearing at a chicken leg, I thought a moment. "To choose one, I have no idea. If you are the problem solver of the pair, wouldn't you have an inkling of an idea?"

I snorted and rolled my eyes. "I just got here, I don't have any juicy gossip, and I know about the histories of the countries, but not the news. I have no idea what is going on in today's world. Well this is the royal city though. Someone has to be doing something somewhat interesting. I do believe the coronation may be the place to start searching. All those nobles with their guard down, distracted by the thought of a new queen and each other's beauty in their finest attire. What do you think?" I gave her a self satisfied look.

"Absolutely. I had a mind to do the same before I met you, actually. Don't forget I just got here too. And it looks like Kendrick has had his nose in his ledgers all these months. He knows nothing exciting," I said with a sigh. I lit up, my mind clicking suddently, "I did meet a Princess on my first day, and I will greet her if I can. That can be a place to start."

I nodded enthusiastically "I don't know anyone, so I will try and meet as many people as I can and-" I cut off sharply looking at Brian. "Don't you dare tell my mother or brother what we're about, you hear me? You'd be sorry I assure you."
Brian was grinning at me. "Ambre I think I'm just as excited as you are, the city is stuffy and I'd like something to do. I'll keep my mouth shut if you keep me in the loop, and you don't go running off on your own. Your mother would have my hide."
I thought it over in my head, he could be useful, and my mother wouldn't complain so much if he was there to watch over me so I finally nodded. "Ok. Back to what I was saying, I'll try to find out anything interesting, although I don't know how good my skills are with that. This will b e good practice then. We can follow up sometime at the fete or the next day with each other."

Camael, Ambre was a decided one ! I smiled to myself, grateful for my heartbreak which had fostered this encounter.
"It all sounds good to me," I said, taking a mental note that Nicole and I were to have a conversation about it all later.
"I'll do my best to talk to the Princess I met, although i'm not very hopeful. I will also gather what I can, I did meet another peer who was very friendly, so maybe she will be knowledgeable. If an opportunity arises to meet some characters, I will seize it too, although I do intend to have loads of amusement as well. I have a lot of catching up to do," I said with a wink.

I laughed, "I think I have some catching up to do as well." Grinning I downed the last of my ale and wiped my mouth. "I'm so glad my hungry as been quelled some. So about this weapons training..." I didn't know when I had to be back by, but as long as the sun was up I figured I was free as a bird.
