Name: Darien Kachine
Age: 25
Race: d'Angeline
Gender: Male
Description: Darien stands a lithe, but muscled six-foot-four inches. His thick hair is sienna brown and sets off his cerulean blue eyes wonderfully. He has a quick, and brilliant smile that never fails to illicit a responding smile from others. He rarely speaks, preferring to concentrate on his art, but when he does his voice is deep and soft.
History: Darien's father, Lucas, was raised in Eglantine House where his skill in painting earned him a minor level of renown. After making his marque, Lucas left Eglantine to open his own studio where he continued his string of success, living a comfortable if not elegant life. During Lucas's thirtieth year, he was commissioned to paint the portrait of Ivy, the daughter of a minor Lord from Namarre. In the time that they were together for the sitting, Ivy and Lucas developed a relationship and became lovers. Ivy decided to leave Namarre and move to the City where her relationship with Lucas continued. Though never married, Ivy and Lucas felt the desire for children and so Ivy lit her candle to Eisheth. A year later, Ivy gave birth to twins, Darien and Talitha.
From the time he was old enough to show signs of his own personality, everyone knew that Darien was to be an artist. Lucas overflowed with pride, certain that his son was meant to follow in his footsteps. Darien's childhood was a constant string of art, for he would draw on any available surface with any available instrument. When he was ten, Lucas took Darien to Eglantine, wanting his son to benefit from the same level of instruction that he had enjoyed himself. Lucas told Darien of the wonderful instruction he would receive at Eglantine, and Darien went willingly. The Dowayne was impressed by the examples of Darien's talent that Lucas provided and eagerly accepted Darien into Eglantine.
Once at Eglantine, Darien's talents began to blossom in ways even he had never imagined possible. The problem was that he had no interest in any of the aspects of adept life except for his art classes. No matter how the Dowayne and other teachers pressured, cajoled, or threatened him, Darien wanted nothing to do with becoming a true adept. The Dowayne resigned himself to finding another way to recoup the money Eglantine had invested in training Darien, for it was obvious he would never be an adept.
Barnett Kachine, a well known marquist in the City, was visiting Eglantine when he happened upon a fifteen year old Darien sketching in the sunny courtyard. Barnett was taken by both Darien's talent and passion for his work. Barnett had been seeking an apprentice to pass on his studio to eventually and began making arrangements with the Dowayne to purchase Darien's marque. Though he hated leaving his teachers at Eglantine, Darien was intrigued by the manner of art Barnett offered to teach him.
As in all other mediums, Darien excelled in what Barnett dubbed ' the only form of art that breathed'. By the time Darien turned twenty-one, his services were more sought that Barnett's, and Barnett felt he could retire from working with clients. Barnett still runs the business side of the studio, but Darien does all of the marquing. When not working on flesh, Darien is constantly sketching, usually in charcoals and a few of his pieces have even sold for tidy sums, allowing Darien to satisfy whatever desire may occur to him. Darien does nothing without a level of passion that nears fanaticism, often becoming so engrossed in what he is doing that he forgets to eat or sleep.
