Once the sea had finally vanished from my sight, I thought perhaps the dark shadow that clung to me would be vanquished with it. But nothing is quite that simple, is it? I rode hard into the night, the sound of crashing waves still ringing in my ears. I drove my steed inland, towards the one place that would perhaps bar the ocean’s waves from pounding at my heart. Blessed Elua, it was already beginning to erode. I had only been to the City of Elua a few times. None of the visits were very remarkable, which was most likely due to the fact that they were for business only. But, for some reason the City seemed to call me to it. And there was no view of the vast and conquering sea.
In my state of rage and sadness, tears streamed from my eyes as I flew across the land on horseback. After a while, I felt my horse struggling beneath me, and I slowed. What a wreck I was. Triton, my loyal horse had not been trained to endure the harshness of my heels and the bite of a crop. It would be a long and slow ride to the City of Elua. I would be too long with my thoughts, but I would endure it. If stone can endure the pounding of the ocean, I could endure it as well. The sound of crashing waves still filled my ears. It seemed escape would not be as easy as I had thought it would be. But nothing is quite that simple.
I rode on.
