I came home with a smile to Jeanne's scolding. I had started smiling again after Gratien had calmed down, and started acting like everything was fine again. I let it go, but I wasn't about to forget. I still didn't understand why he had been angry at me. I had sent a message to the house as to my whereabouts, but Jeanne worried. She always worried. Hence the scolding. She didn't even seem to see the package under one of my arms, and she certainly didn't notice my attempts to shush her, so I finally sat down and started unwrapping it. I drew out the gown that had made Gratien's eyes light up. Her mouth never closed from her babbling, sound simply stopped coming out of it. After a moment, she spoke again. "Who the blazes talked you into that?" "Gratien." I replied simply, blushing at the look of astonishment on her face as I brought out the cream gloves with delicate gold embroidery that would match his colour scheme. "But... it took your mother and I forever to get you into the red dress for the masque." "I know." I turned away, but she could still see my smile in the mirror.
