“You’ve lived in the Night Court your whole life?” I asked curiously.

I smiled at him as I nodded. "Yes, I have. My mother was an adept of Alyssum and still lives there today; I stayed with her until my tenth natal. Camellia has been my home ever since," I finished, my smile growing.

“Do you enjoy your life there?” I asked.
“And please, feel free to not answer if my questions are too impolite,” I added with a chuckle.

"Oh, no," I replied, smiling warmly at him. "You're not being impolite at all. I do enjoy my life at Camellia, very much so. Have you ever had the chance to visit it before?"

“No, I never have,” I answered, smiling softly. I’d nothing against adepts or the Night Court, I just hadn’t ever visited it much. “Most of my time has been spent on my home estate in Eisande.”

"Where your families paper mill is?" I asked, curious as I looked up at him.

“Yes, not far from the border with Caerdicca Unitas,” I said with a nod. “Have you ever traveled?”

"No," I said, shaking my head a little. "I'd love to though - see the sea, and a beach, different countries..." I blushed and smiled wider, feeling a shine in my eyes. "It would be wonderful."

“I’ve only been to Caerdicca Unitas, but it is enough to astound,” I said with a smile. I leaned a little closer as if to tell her a secret. “Truthfully though, it made me appreciate home all the more.”

I leaned in a little as he did, closing the distance enough that I could feel the heat from his face on mine. "I could imagine," I said softly. "Was it beautiful there?"

Her closeness was very nice, and I could smell the wonderful, female scent of her, sweet and inviting.
“It was,” I said, straightening up and giving her space back to her. “Though everything pales a bit to d’Angeline beauty.”

I missed him as he leaned away again and I straightened as well, my smile never leaving. "I hear it's difficult to rival the beauty of Terre d'Ange," I agreed, not having much else to agree with him on.

Not meaning to, my eyes traveled the length of her quickly before I answered.
“oh yes, the beauty of Terre d’Ange is unmatched.” Ah gods, if I was a blusher I would have colored deeply then. I looked back at the books, finding a manuscript bound in black that was suddenly very interesting.

I caught the way he looked me up and down, and the blush that was beginning was brightened by his matching words. Before I could respond he was busying himself in a book and I was charmed even more by it, flattered not once, but twice.
"I must say," I remarked softly, taking a small book off the shelf to have something else to focus on even as I glanced back up at him again, "I'm very glad I decided to come here today. I was wrong before - the company is much nicer than the books."

“You are very kind,” I said, looking at her and smiling, a rather soft and adult smile as her words had a rather direct affect on my male pride. “And I would agree with you completely.”

"Well thank you," I said, feeling the color begin to fade away from my cheeks til they were a comfortable level. I looked down at the book, wondering if I was going to be able to concentrate enough to actually make a purchase, and deciding I didn't care if I actually bought one today or not. For the moment I was quiet, feeling a strange mixture of being pleased with him, and shy.

For half a moment there was a silence between us that near tingled with possibilities. These were moments that I had no skill at, no witty innuendos on hand, and I searched for something to say before the moment stretched on too long.
I glanced down at the book I held. “Have you… ever read any of her works?” I asked, showing her the name of the author.

Ever thankful that he spoke, I nearly sighed in gratefulness as I leaned a little to look. "Oh, yes," I said, looking up at him with a soft smile. "She has a very delicate way with words. The one book I own of hers is lovely, full of hidden meanings. I find a new one every time I read it."
He was close still, but not too much, and as much as I wished it were more I held my place so as not to be pushy.

"I think you made a wise choice," I complimented as I put my own book back. "I think I'll purchase one from her as well, actually." It only took a few seconds to locate the one I hoped to see; I'd read bits before and had loved it.

As she searched for her book, I tried to flesh out the words to form my offer without it sounding too forward or silly.
“Would you let me buy the book for you? As a thank you for the company and the advice on picking my own book?” I asked. I don’t think the fleshing out had worked…

His offer took me by complete surprise, and I found myself smiling at him before I could even decide on a reaction. "Thank you, Teo," I said warmly. "That's very thoughtful of you. I enjoyed our time very much as well." I didn't want him to think I was rebuking his offer, but neither did I want him thinking I was only looking for someone who would get me things. "Are you sure you'd like to? I think highly of you, either way."

“I’m sure,” I said, finding myself nodding to emphasize my point and stopping because it was silly. “I really do appreciate the help, and the company, and I’d really like to.”

My smile grew further, and had I not been an adept with a peer, I'd have kissed his cheek. "Thank you then, Teo," I said softly, looking at him warmly as I offered the book.

My smile grew and I sighed with relief at her gracious acceptance.
“It is my pleasure, Aurianne,” I replied, still smiling. “Let me go pay for these and I’ll be right back. Unless you’d like to wait outside or something?”

My own smile grew as his did, an echoing reflection of the relief and happiness I saw in him. "I'll wait outside," I replied. My arm came out as I went to move around him, softly touching his forearm. "Thank you again, Teo," I added softly, my eyes on his before blushing and moving towards the door.

My skin tingled where she touched it and I was caught by the sight of her retreating form for a moment before I broke out of my trance and went to the counter to pay for our books.

I had to force myself not to look back at him again as I walked out of the store, moving not too far away from the door but enough that I wouldn't be blocking it. Once there, I subconsciously brushed my hands across my skirts to straighten them, allowing myself a smile at how the day had gone, and the person I'd met.

I paid for the books, even giving a little extra to have hers wrapped in pretty paper with a fancy bow. I thanked the clerk and headed outside.
“Here you go,” I said, smiling wide as I offered her the book.

I looked up as he exited, my eyes looking over his face. "Oh, thank you," I replied, smiling warmly at him as I took the book. It was wrapped beautifully, and I drew my fingers over it before looking up at him again, touching his arm lightly as I had a moment ago. "It's lovely. I hope you enjoy your book as much as I know I will."
