After my talk with my new friend I simply could not believe it. Apparently all that I had read about the D'Angeline fixation with love and matters of the bed chamber was in fact the absolute truth. It seemed they did take sex very seriously here. And it seemed that my notion that if I made a trip to the Night Court it would look bad on an ambassador was in fact mistaken. Gods of the Deep it sounded like it would look more odd if I did not take such a trip.
Now this was terribly disturbing because while I am not a virgin I am not experienced either. Thus I went to the book store my friend and I had passed in our tour of the City and I began frantically looking over books pertaining to the Court of Night Blooming Flowers. I was getting quite lost i my studies and was rather oblivious to my surroundings. This was serious after all as it had been made clear a trip to the wrong House or an encounter with the wrong family could be well unpleasant.

I'd read through the last of my romance novels, one of my few guilty indulgences, and as nothing pressing was calling me for the day I ventured to the bookstore to find a new one. Simon and I had met here- I pushed that thought from my mind. In our lives, people come and go, touching only for a moment, and that was not to be mourned too long.
Once inside the store, composed and with a serene smile, and walked into a section of the store where a man stood browsing the shelves as well and I smiled just a hair wider in greeting before turning back to look at the titles, running a delicate finger along them as I thought. His features stood out, definitely not d'Angeline- Illyrian. I should have known, with as many of them take to the seas and end up in my city.

Movement caught my attention and I looked up to see a striking red headed woman. "Afternoon" I said politely. Then looked back down to the book and it occurred to me just what I was reading in the presence of a lady. Now that brought a bright red stain to my cheeks. I nearly dropped the book and started to replace it on the shelf then it occurred to me that apparently this sort of reading would be normal for D'Angelines. So I kept the book in hand though shifted nervously glancing at the lady once more.

"Afternoon," I replied softly as I continued to skim the titles, flushing as I cast another glance at him. Most men I happened to be around were a good deal older than myself but this one- wasn't. Obviously. Stop being stupid.
Immediately my mind took over and I appraised the situation- the Illyrian seemed nervous and the caring part of my Eisandine nature took over. "It's a lot to take in, isn't it?" I said quietly.

I cleared my throat and spoke up. My accent is obvious but not thick my uncle had assured I was very well educated after all. "Well I have studied intensely but study is one thing and experience is another thing entirely." I gave her a sheepish smile "I must confess that I was surprised to find your people take um" I looked to the book as if that explained it. "As seriously as it seems you do. I mean I had read but.." I railed off and could feel my cheeks literally burning.

He blushed and was obviously so embarrassed by the things he saw- and I could understand, truly I could. "It's not always so important," I told him, taking the book gently from his hands and looking at it. "D'Angelines just usually feel it's not something to be hidden and, like all passions, those interested in it mean to have their say. This is also one of the- harder- books, more- advanced, if you will."
At the fact I knew these things I blushed as deeply as he did, unable to keep myself from doing so. It seemed I had just enough knowledge to embarrass myself. "If you really wanted to learn the Tois Milles Joies is probably the best place to start."

"Oh" I replied as we seemed to be having a mutual blushing contest. "And I am well read but well read and meeting face to face." I shrugged and changed topic her blush was well horribly enticing. "By the way I am Pièter Kolcei of Illyria obviously." I offered my hand to her then thought better of it. D'Angeline's kiss on the cheek so that is what I would do after her introduction.

For a moment I'd been worried I'd offended him when I really hadn't meant to in the slightest- but the idea blew straight by with his introduction. "My name is Lessandrie de Mereliot," I told him, smiling shyly. "It's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you as well." I leaned in and kissed her cheek in greeting like her people did. Though it caused me to blush even more. "And I am assuming you are a local." I added as I leaned back tying to keep proper manner and form as would be expected of an ambassador.

"To Terre d'Ange yes, though I'm from Marsilikos," I replied, the flush from his kiss and the smell of his skin slowly beginning to fade as I fought down the giggles that threatened to ring through my head, especially as he had backed away decently and still had that confused, embarrassed expression. Best not to startle him more by doing something completely silly or mad. I'd placed the lightest kiss of greeting on his cheek as he did on mine, but no more. "I hope I'm not being terribly rude, but what made you decide to research this particular topic in such a way? Most simply venture to the Night Court- or study freelance, if you will." There was that flush I seemed to be stuck with, appearing again.

I cleared my throat "Well I was sent here as the Illyrian ambassador and my uncle would really prefer I accomplish a few things here. Thus I avoided the Night Court as I felt it might be un-seeming for the ambassador to rush out there. But by and by I met a countryman who has helped show me around." Oh gods of the deep I was babbling I hated it when I babbled and thus I blushed and babbled more. "He assured me your people take it all quite serious. Uh, it even sounded like it would seem passing odd if I did not go there right off. Thus I am doing some more research." Marsilikos dam it where is that I know where that is think of the implications not that she is quite fetching.

"I suppose it depends what you mean by seriously," I replied after a moment of thought. "We live by the code 'Love as thou wilt'- whether that means loving freely or holding your love back, giving only to those you find worthy, everything in between. The only requirement is that one be true to themselves."
He was becoming more confused by the moment and I smiled shyly, bringing my hand to rest on his arm softly.

I realized a bit late I was leaning into her hand I had not even realized was touching me. "Oh so you are saying that Love as Though Wilt means many things to many of your people and it is up to the person to decide?" I sort of got that. Ah Marsilikos! A port city mayhap I was not a total idiot.

Just slightly he placed his weight into my touch- my comforting streak must be coming out. Yes, that was it- to think of anything else was patently silly. "Exactly," I told him with a warm smile. "And to everyone it means something a little different, but none of those are inherently wrong- only actions can be considered so."

"Alright, but I was told speculation on one's tastes as well as one's performance can also have a profound political affect." I slid closer to her as I spoke and fixed my attention on her eyes. "If I may be so bold I did not know I would be graded as such."

"Pardon?" I said, for a moment completely confused as I thought. "I do not mean to impugn your source but that would make very little sense. For d'Angeline inner politics perhaps, simply because of marriage alliances and the chances of two convenient people suiting one another- but with other countries that don't follow our ways that would be silly. The world doesn't follow our rules in such things and that doesn't make them wrong either."
His gaze stayed on mine and I met it with every small but of confidence I could muster- it was almost an intimate act, looking into someone's eyes so, and I flushed anew. "I know I would never do such a thing," I added as the idea came to my mind again. "It would only make things difficult." He did have pretty eyes.

Sensing that my gaze was troubling I looked away. "True, but I was sent here to open doors in your nation thus it is important I play by your rules as much as I can. It is your country so you set the rules. Thus it is important I learn and make proper impressions." Why on earth was I trusting about everyone I spoke with? Mayhap my detractors were right after all.

"But if our ways are to have you be yourself, wouldn't that be the best way to fit in among us?" I asked, cocking my head sideways and wishing he hadn't turned his head away. It made me feel shy to look at him so but I'd enjoyed it in what was probably entirely too girlish a way. "Can you really go wrong doing what you believe best?"

I smiled brightly and looked back catching her eyes once more as it felt kinda silly talking whilst not looking at her. "I did not say I was not planning on being myself. But what I meant is that it is important I come to understand your customs and traditions. And mayhap I really need to learn myself a little."

"My apologies," I said with a smile, more light-hearted now that I didn't feel he was looking away as though I were a leper. "I didn't mean to misunderstand. I think you're doing wonderfully at the customs and traditions of Terre d'Ange though- just by asking questions and wanting to learn while having patience." I wished I could have told him that we were all so open but there were those who did love their intrigue. "I'd be more than happy to help, if you'd like."

I smiled more at that. "I would like that very much. I need to learn and I feel it is silly to not simply say you do not know when you do not know if that makes much sense." I shrugged my shoulders "After all it seems I shall be here a while so it is only proper that I do my best to make the place truly my home."

I chewed my lip and smiled “Well it seems matters of the heart are the most relevant topic at hand. Though I suspect standing in a book store is not the best place to have this discussion.” I at last had managed to get my blushing under control. It had been some time since I had felt so juvenile.

"Well, we could sit somewhere and have a glass of wine, or there's the park or fountain if you prefer somewhere with more solitude," I told him, this time flushing a little myself, though I managed to stop it before it went too far. I was learning Pieter's nature and becoming more comfortable around him, less easily embarrassed.

“You are the Lady thus it is only proper that you choose.” I smiled a bit more “And if this is a bad time for you we can make arrangements for later. I really do not mean to impose.” Of course my mind was screaming for her to say now, but I was managing to keep some small degree of dignity.

"Well, I have the rest of my day free, coincidentally," I told him. "What say you to getting some food, watching some people and then going to the park to do so some more?" I meant those things in the most innocent sense, but the girlish part of myself couldn't help but giggle inwardly at the implications anyway.

The White Hart wasn't far, I recalled- though the last time I'd been there it had been under significantly less innocent circumstances. Quickly I pushed that thought away as well. "Friends would be nice."
