After making my clothing arrangements, I strolled around Night's Doorstep. Illyrian. Well, maybe my ignorance would serve me well here, better that then prejudice. Noting the sign above the door, I turned with a creak, and stepped in. I took in my surroundings, taking care to tuck my sword close not to bump anything. With only one scroll, the best I could do was hope for an appraisal I feared.

I was sitting at the counter reading a letter from my parents when the bell above door rang. I looked up, setting the letter aside and smiling.
"Good day," I said to the man in the doorway. "Welcome to Anezka Collections."

A calm voice caught my attention. Turning my head I spied the women behind the corner. Not what I expected, not at all. I stepped forward, and offered a curt bow. "Good day to you. Azenka I presume?"

"Yes, I am Mirsada Anezka," I said, standing and stepping from behind the counter. "How may I help you?"

"Tabien de Valclesa, Mirsada." I gave a proper bow. A good introduction couldnt' hurt here. As I rose, I reached into my vest, and procured my Ch'n scroll. Holding it out gently, I replied. "I was wondering what -you- could tell me about this."
Before anything, I thought to gauge her knowledge.

Right to the point, I liked that.
Stepping closer, I took the scroll but didn't unroll it yet. Instead, I moved back to the counter where I could examine it in better light.
"Is this yours or are you an agent for someone else?" I asked as I carefully began unrolling the scroll.

I wonder what that had to do with anything. Maybe she hoped to spare me details should I merely be a messenger. "It would be mine." Other than perhaps brows furrowed in curiousness, I left my expression blank.

"Good, then if I have any questions, you will know the answers," I said, smiling at him.
My gaze returned to the scroll, brows coming together slightly as I examined it. "Ch'n, right?"

I nodded. She didn't look to surprised at at it, which led me to believe she was as experienced as I'd heard. Perceptive too.

I knew a few Ch'n characters, but was nowhere near skilled enough to read the delicate writing.
"Do you know what it says?" I asked curiously, letting my finger trace delicately over the symbols, feeling the quality of the ink used.

I sighed. There I go jumping to conclusions. "Yes. I do." Guiding her finger in the proper reading of the text, I did a quick summery. "From what I've read, it details a general history of the people some fifty years past. They are foretold via their astrologers, and are ordered by the cycles of the moon.
"Here." I indicated one character. "In this year, there was a heavy winter that sealed many of the northern passes. It was a time of strife, and many perished, unable to travel to the cities."

I did know enough of the characters to surmise that what he said was true.
"Are you looking to sell this or just for an appraisal?" I asked, lifting the scroll up to the light to check the paper.

"Appraisal for starters." Phew I think I indeed found the right place. I knew that what I had was rare, but beyond that, I couldn't gauge its worth in the kingdom. It was hard to tell how prevalent eastern artifacts were.
"I don't suppose you have any personal interest in this, do you?" I asked.

"Actually, I might," I told him, setting the scroll down and carefully rolling it back up. "I would need to have someone else look at it though, to know if they would be able to translate it fully for me before I could give you a definite price. How quickly were you looking to sell?"

"Weelllll" I started to draw out. I didn't want to sound like I was trying to get rid of bad merchandise, but I only had time for a few days in the city. If I didn't make something, I wouldn't be back in while.
"I don't need to sell everything I have, but I'm afraid my tenure in the city is somewhat dependent on my initial interests I collect." A tiny grimace appeared on my lips, an actor I probably wasn't, though I would take pity if need be.

"Well," I said, looking at him, finally taking a minute to study his features. "I could give you an advance on the selling price while I'm having it looked at. Then, depending on what it's fully worth, I could give the difference or hold it to sell here on consignment."

I blinked, before letting myself grin, I couldn't help it. It was just what I needed, something to hold me over. "Oh, that'd be excellent." When she didn't respond right away, and merely looked at me, I raised an eyebrow, but declined to say anything.

I did a quick calculation of the low end of what I thought this would sell for.
"I can give you 140 ducats for it now, and we can write up a contract detailing the rest," I offered.

"That sounds fine." I agreed. I followed her as she led me to make the contract, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the fact of someone with such good presentation in a small shop like this, though I didn't say anything.

Pulling parchment from it's slot beneath the counter, I began filling in the spaces.
"How long have you had the scroll?" I asked curiously as I wrote.

I thought about it. It had been a quicker journey home then arrival. "Not too long I'd say, six months mayhap."

Turning the parchment to face him, I let him read it as I offered him the quill.
"If everything is right, you just needs sign and I will get you your money."

I chuckled again. "It's good to receive ducats from beautiful ladies." I took the quill, signed my name, and handed it back. "There you are."

I couldn't help but laugh at his words, he was rather witty it seemed.
"I'm glad I could oblige," I told him, adding my name to the contract as well.
Then, I unlocked the coffer and took out the coins, laying them on the counter in stacks easily counted.
"And there you are."

"You know, that went a lot smoother than I thought. I expected a bunch of haggling and the like." I counted the coin in my hand, figuring if I spent it wisely, I could stay a few more days in the city. "When can I expect a response?"

"Two days. I already have a person I can take it to. Come back in two days and we can finish the deal." I smiled. "And if you like, we can haggle then."

"Er, alright." I pocketed the coin in my pouch. I offered a smile, though was a little confused how to properly end this meeting.

I offered him my hand to shake.
"It's been a pleasure, and I will see you again in two days," I told him, smiling.

"Very well then." I grasped her hand firmly, and shook it giving a slight bow too. I started to go, then stopped. "I'm staying at the White Hart Manor. Send a missive there, I should receive it." And without any more thoughts, turned promptly on my heal, exiting the shop giving one last wave without looking back.

After he'd gone, I put the scroll in a secure tube and then sent note to my appraiser. I had a feeling I was going to get an excellent deal on this scroll.
