In all good reality, it was only the last thread of proper sense that kept me seated placidly upon the cushioned seat of the carriage, for everything inside of me just begged release. I myself would have preferred riding horseback to the city, though the notion were refused by my father before it could leave my lips. He always did have a sixth sense as to what I was going to say. My mouth bunched to the side softly as I edged up towards the front of my seat, peeking out the drawn curtains covering the windows as we passed through the City of Elua. It was so pretty, so magnificent that it made the bubble of excitement roil within my belly once more, and I could not help the delighted grin that broke out over my face. I hoped Jess wasn't too vexed with the idea of being straddled with me, though I truly did not think that would be the case. She was always a leader, though her sweet, loving side never failed to shine through.
A jolt as the carriage came to an abrupt stop pulled me from my reveries, and I forwent any collective state I might have been able to be in before as my door was opened and a hand held out to assist me in stepping down. Grasping the drivers chilled fingers with my own warmed hand, I gave him a smile before turning to look at the townhouse before me, my hazel eyes scanning the grounds for a sign of my little-big sister.

I'd been sitting in my spot on the steps, reading some book I had managed to grab and trying to actually pay attention to what was written on the page- Joie was arriving today and I was ecstatic to have my sister visiting me, though I knew she had her own sorrows that she would be carrying with her. The note had arrived a couple days ago and I had been in a blissful state of constant giddiness, my smile even more vibrant that usual.
The sound of a carriage pulling up in the front of the house caused me to squeal with delight as I dropped my book- another one that would most likely be forgotten on the steps until I had to step over it- and running to the door and out to race to her as she stepped out, though I did wait until her feet were steady on the ground before giving her a firm hug. "Joie!" I said happily. "It's so good to see you- I've missed you all so much, though I have been trying to keep busy. My eyes flashed with mischief. "The City is wonderful, isn't it? I just know we're going to have so much fun!"

Jessamines vibrant personality shone through in perfection, and I found myself laughing and returning her hug with the warmth only a sister could have. "Jess! You're as short as ever." I gave her a devilish grin and released her, turning to gaze at the house I would be staying in while I was in the city before glancing back. A smile lit my face still further as I nodded in response, feeling the brush of delight as if it were painted across my features. "I've missed you too! The house just isn't the same without you there, stirring up mischief and causing Mother to add a few more grey hairs to her collection. Still," I said, looking down upon her, "I think your not being there has caused more for her than your antics. What have you been up to here?" I linked arms with her and moved away from the carriage, giving the driver and footman room to remove my luggage. "The city is fantastic. I can only imagine what will happen." I grinned around the last, feeling a mild streak of roguishness that I squelched before it had time to fester.

"Why, only what every lady does with their first time in the City if she has any sense of fun at all," I replied, eyes wide as I put on an innocent expression. "And I would highly recommend every bit of that fun to you. Come on, let's go inside and get you settled." I looked at the servants taking care of the baggage and they nodded their ability to handle this load, so I smiled a thanks and led her inside. "We're going to have to get you a costume for Midwinter."

I laughed as she spoke, feeling light and full of joy, happiness, gaiety. "Why, darling sister, are you hinting at something?" Amusement filled my voice as I followed her inside, passing through the door and dropping my arm from hers. "Oh, Jess, this place is lovely." Smoothing my travel-creased dress, I absently fretted at the wrinkles that would need to be pressed out as my thoughts turning to her last statement. "Midwinter! Oh, I almost forgot! What are you going as?"

Smiling impishly, I replied slyly, "Well, maybe I'm implying a LITTLE. I don't think you'd recognize me otherwise."
At seeing her expression upon entering the house I smiled widely and then turned my attention to her question, giddy beyong belief to have her here with me. "I'm going as a Sidhe pixied," I said with a wink, knowing how I had been called a changling as a child. "The costume was made at Eglantine and should be arriving in the next few days. Do you have any ideas of what you would want to go as?"

"You're right, Jess; you wouldn't be you without some scheme plotting in the back of your mind. Besides," I said, my amusement deepening, "who's to say I'm wholly innocent myself?"
I smiled at her ever-joyous humor and looked back to her, settling my hands upon my dress. "A pixie should fit you just fine, I think." I grinned, coy and impish. "You have the build of one. Still, I haven't put much thought into a costume for my own." Truly, what -would- I be? New to the city and with little time to become acquainted with others, I needed something that would be presentable, eye-catching, but mostly, fun. "Do you have any ideas?"

"You could be an elf, tall and lanky and without curves," I teased as I stuck my tongue out at her comments relating to my height. "Besides, I have yet to hear any complaints relating to by build and stature. Eglantine will think of something, they're the best."

I gave a mock gasp as she returned my banter, the grin upon my face not only remaining, but deepening. "Oh, Jess, I've missed you. Our other sisters are not nearly as fun to jest with as you; Candida rolls her eyes most times, Beatrix gets angry, and I just don't have the heart to tease Lotta overmuch. They send their love by the way, all of them, and I'm to remind you for Mother to not appear in pubic with grass stains upon your skirts." My laughter sounded around that, and I gave her a dubious look before switching subjects. "Eglantine, then! Shall we go today? I am worried my costume will not be completed in time if we wait too long."

Laughing, I said, "I expected such messages from all of them- especially Mother's. I will have to send them a letter soon informing of your safe arrival and that we are behaving suitably."
At the idea of helping her with a costume I smiled and nodded excitedly. "Yes, let's go and get your costume ready- I think you'll like Eglantine, it's busy in the same way as home is. Maybe I'll even run into some of my friends and you can be introduced so you'll have other people to talk to at the Masque."

The excitement flared within my belly again, and I gave her a bright smile before looking down to my garments. "I need to wash my face and hands at least, Jess, and change into something fresh. Is there a room I could do it in?" Turning to one of the trunks that had been left by the door, I kneeled and unlatched it, opening it and sifting through my folded dresses with little finesse. "Ah!" A dark red, subtle and light-feeling, made from silk. A simple design overall, but it was one of my favorites. Standing anew, I glanced to my sister and looked 'round the hall again, eager to be changed and on our way to Eglantine. "I hope I do meet others. I don't want to be your lackey the whole night." I teased her, thought never-the-less meant what I said.

"Pick whichever room you want," I replied with a grin. "But you may want to pick a warmer gown, it's colder here in the City."

I stifled a pout at that, laying the dress back down again with a sigh. "Fine, fine. You're right." Another chosen, I left her to freshen myself; I'd thought of applying kohl to my eyes, though in the end decided against it, leaving my face fresh and natural. "Ready when you are," I said with a grin.

"Then let's head out," I said with a smile, coming out of the office with enough coin to pay for her gown and perhaps some shopping and lunch afterward. "Start thinking of colors and the general cut of your gown. Do you want to walk since you've been in the carriage for so long?"

"Walking would be fine, I think," I said as she reappeared, giving her a smile in return as I moved towards the door. "My legs need a good stretch. As for the cut and color..." I paused, glancing around my shoulder to look at her. "I have something in mind, though that would depend on what comes of the brainstorm at Eglantine." And with that I opened the door and stepped out into the cold, one hand holding it propped for her.

Smiling, I stepped out the door after her and let it close softly behind me. "Sounds like a plan," I replied as we headed to Eglantine.
