My dearest sister,
How have you faired? Its been dreadfully slow here, as I'm sure you could guess. Mother has been beside herself as our sisters grow, and I too, I suppose, though I would like to think that she views me more of a friend and woman than a girl she must attend and guide. Father is father, forever sweet and relaxed in his minstrations of business, though I think he truly misses having you around, as do I. I've been after him for quite a while now, as you know, about letting me come visit you in the City. He's finally acceded and agreed, and I find I am writing this letter in haste so that it might arrive to you before I do.
Candida is doing quite well. She reminds me of you quite a bit, both in body and spirit, though she doesn't seem to want to sit long enough to pen more than two lines before the fidgets claim her once again. Beatrix is coming into her own, though she's still fiery and spirited; I don't think that will ever truly leave her, and I feel badly for whomever it is that she eventually couples with. Lotta, ah, darling Lotta. She is as lovely as ever, sweet as the honey you and I used to steal from the cabnets, and willing to do what she must to keep the people around her happy. She's a quick study, too, and will one day likely give you a run for you money with words.
I am thrilled to escape the estates here and visit you, but I feel I must confess before I see you that there are two alterior motives at work. The first, and foremost, is Mother and Father wish me to give you a shoulder to lean upon, and I think a steady hand, though I am not sure I was supposed to tell you that. The second reason, and one most dear to my heart is my escape from a situation I created. How, I do not know, though things are as they are, and it has to do with my... former... lover. I'll tell you more of it when I see you, so you may laugh at my face and instead of this letter.
Until I see you! Stay well, Jess, and look for me, for I won't be far behind this letter.
My love,
Joie
