She arrived in the City that afternoon and had been swept away at the beauty of it; even her family's small city dwelling seemed to glow. The house was in one of the nicer sections of the City, within an easy walk of the Palace and the markets. It wasn't overly ostentatious or brooding; people who saw it felt comfortable before even being shown inside.
She'd spent that first afternoon becoming accustomed to her surroundings and making the place comfortable. There were two stories, and the bedrooms, bathing rooms and parlor were all spacious and cool. Windows were opened to allow the house to air, and dust covers and vermin were soon removed. Jessamine checked on the servants her father had sent and went to bed with a set plan in mind for the next day.
She'd awoken early; the city seemed to amplify the sunshine and make one feel more active. Jessamine's window opened onto a small plot of land in the back in which wildflowers were blooming. For a moment she was taken back to the memories of her home in Eisande, but then she heard the clatter of carriages in the streets and horses and her heart raced to be in the City.
Her clothing was set aside waiting for her and she quickly set her maidservant to running her a bath. This morning's bath was lavender and vanilla; good, strong scents that gave the wearer a feeling of confidence, which she'd learned from her Eiran grandmother. After every portion of her was scrubbed spotless of the grime from the trip, Jessamine allowed herself to be dressed; the gown she's set out was one of her best, for going to the Palace, even for the library, was something one should dress for.
After eating some fruit and toast (her stomach was too tempestuous for anything else), she had her carriage summoned to the front and tried not to fidget with her paper and quill while she waited for it to be pulled around. When it had arrived, she took a deep breath, smiled widely, and got in. "To the Palace," Jessamine said excitedly.
