I woke in the morning to an empty bed, something I was strangely beginning to be accustomed to. Something I didn't enjoy. I sat in my bed, my body sore from the previous night. Oh Janyx, how could a Heliotrope do such things. I smiled to myself and ran my hands through my hair.
"Duchesse?" A quiet voice came from the door.
"Come in Fleur." I said recognizing it.
"Did you have a pleasent evening?" She asked entering with a basin and fresh towels.
"I suppose, did anything come for me today?" I almost hoped he would hav wrote.
"No my lady, not for you directly. But word has come of another tragety." She said moving into the bathing room. I followed as she placed the basin on the marble of the table.
"The King?" I asked leaning over and cupping water in my hands before splashing it onto my face.
"No my lady, the Duc de Siovale. He is dead." I turned to her.
"No!" I said in surprise.
"Yes, he and his whole family. Wife, son and daughter. Slain in their town home." All I could do was stare wide eyed.
"Shame." I said shaking my head slightly. "Oh Elua, I thought we lived in a peaceful nation." I turned back to the basin.
"Theres more," Fleur continued as I washed my face throughly. "The new Duc, the new Sovereign Duc de Siovale is Sylvestre de Valmont." I stared blankly again.
"That fiend." I said taking the towel from her hand. "That unscrupulous fiend." I dried my face and handed the towel back.
"My lady?" She raised a brow but there was a hint of smile. "You don't think Lord Sylvetre would do something like that would you?" She seemed uncertain.
"I don't know," I said sighing. I turned and headed for my vanity. I sat and Fleur followed beginning to brush out the tangles. "I hope not, though he was always fiendish when we courted." I applied a light powder to my skin.
"Forget about him, I'll see him later...in a day or so." I said raising a brow.
"What about your evening my lady, I saw you leave with a handsome young man." She smiled in the mirror and I almost felt myself blush.
"Janyx no Heliotrope." I said smiling back.
"Heliotrope?" She sounded so surprised.
"Yes." I said making a face in the mirror. "He has the will of a Mandrake." I said softly. "Oh Fleur, he was good. Like a Shahrizai." I said turning slightly.
"Really," Her brows furrowed in silent awe. "Will you see him again?" She looked so excited. I turned back to the mirror.
"I don't know, I think...I think it scared him." I said placing a braclet on my wrist. "You know." I said knowing that she did, that dark place is hard to go to the first time. Fleur nodded silently.
"Is Elliot around?" I asked as Fleur finished pinning my hair into a soft bun.
"Yes my lady, he too took a Heliotrope to bed." I smiled.
"Yes, I saw." I raised a brow as I stood from my seat. "The green gown Fleur." I said as she continued.
"He took her to Heliotrope earlier." She said pulling the gown from my armoire. "He was humming," She said with a wide grin. "He also sent a letter to your cousin, the one with the summer cottage." She returned with the gown. I slipped into it.
"I wonder what he has planned." I thought to myself, Elliot never hummed, it was like...against his nature. Fleur pulled the back of the gown tight.
"Hes down in the library now." She said as she finished pulling the strings tight.
"I guess I'll ask him myself." I smiled turning to look at myself in the vanity. She nodded and went to work clearing up some of my things as the day maids appeared to help. Almost gliding down the steps I headed for the library.
"I hear you were humming." I said as I entered and sat myself down on the couch next to him.
"Duchesse?" A quiet voice came from the door.
