I sat at my vanity, Fleur brushing my hair as I applied a light talc powder scented with vanilla and orange to my chest and neck.
"Are my clothes prepared?" I asked curiously.
"Yes Duchesse." She replied as she placed down the brush, her fingers beginning to nimple work small gold filigree violet pins into braids of my hair.
"And the drivers have been told?"
"Yes Duchesse, the food has been prepared as well." I inhaled as she spoke.
"Good." I said reaching for the kohl. I was going back to the L'Envers estate for a time, it was spring and I was itching to smell the spring air and be in the airy estate.
"I'll be leaving at eight in the morning, I need to make sure that everything is ready." I finished with the kohl and moved onto the carmine.
"Of course Mistress, I've made sure everything is ready." She said almost confidently.
I smiled slightly, she had become a strong assistant, and sometimes even a friend. I think in a way I loved her and she loved me in return. I was afraid it wasn't enough though. I needed a man to hold my position and title, it sounded horrible, I knew it but I was about to become just a Lady...The former Duchesse L'Envers, a lowly adept taking my place. I had been born to this life, I had grown up this life. Ever since my mother had left I had been Duchesse L'Envers. Now I would just be Lady Evangeline, left with a stiphen of funds afforded me from the estate. I finished with the carmine and pressed my lips together, rubbing them to smooth the red colour.
Tonight would be my last night in the City of Elua, I would enjoy the evening as I should. I would return one day, but for now I needed my space.
