"Well, yes though..." I started, though took a second thought on what I would have asked, something about the difficulty of seducing an adept. I shrugged. "In anycase, It still leaves two brothers left. If I'm smart, I'll just avoid them till a much later date."
We descended down the staircase, and I did my best to remember the route out once more. "Oh, hope that young maid won't be too disappointed about that little errand I sent her on.

I chuckled softly, running my hand lightly over his arm that I held. "Pierre and Gratien would be the hardest ones to impress. Reese... Well, he's Reese." Coming to the end of the stairs, I led him towards the door, doing a mental check to assure myself I had everything I needed. One of the male servants bowed slightly as we walked by, and I smiled, asking him quietly if he could see to bringing the carriage around. It wasn't the only one we owned, so I wasn't worried about taking it from my brothers.
Tabiens remark about the maid made me laugh, and I shook my head as we headed out the door. "No, don't worry about her. One of the older staff members will likely explain things to her if she doesn't gather it on her own. Besides, our staff are trained enough that they'd never show their irritance." I leaned over, kissing him on the cheek as we waited. "Don't worry."

"Alright, alright." We stepped outside as the carriage came around. I nodded to the guardsmen with sincerity and helped Azabel onto the carriage first. "I do hope there is something good playing their today. I've never found Eglantine to disappoint." I said confidently.

"I don't have much experience with them to compare," I said as I settled, arranging my skirts so they didn't wrinkle. "Some performances, true, but not much other than that."

I enjoyed them the brief time I'd spent in the city," I started. "They are one of the few houses that cater to pleasures other than the bedchamber, and do a remarkable job at it." I loosened my collar a bit as I settled in to the seat opposite her.

I'd agreed to lunch with my sister later that week, and had seen her and her friend off. Closing the door behind me, I went back to my work.

I nodded, looking out the window as the carriage rolled on towards Mont Nuit. "Very true. Is there a particular performance you enjoy better than another?"
I glanced back at him as I looked at him, pleasant and curious.

"Probably not. I can't imagine they would put anything on that I would find offense. Remember, scholar." I said, pointing at myself. "I'll find a lesson in anything, even if I have to hurt myself." I chuckled a little too hard on that last comment. "Okay, probably not really, but it sounds funny."

Amused, I watched him as he jested. "Don't hurt yourself," I responded, my lips curving slightly into a soft smile. "Are you planning on attending Beltane?"

I laughed until she mentioned something. I raised and eyebrow of slight confusion. "Beltane? Sorry, I don't follow?"

I smiled gently at him. "Beltane - it's a festival held in Alba and Eire mainly, and hosted here to celebrate those countries as well as the Alban blood that runs in our Queens blood." I smoothed my skirts out, my eyes on him and still smiling. "Basically it'll boil down to dancing and mingling, like most other fetes, though this one has a fire-color themed attire."

I raised an eyebrow. "Really, that sounds interesting." I shuffled my hands about for a moment. "You know, as sad is it sounds, I've...." I felt rather embarrassed by this little fact. I suppose it was a testament of how removed I was from D'Angline culture. "I've never had the pleasure of attending a full-fledged D'Angline fete," I said lowly, but then added, "As an adult I mean." I gave her a shy smile before looking out the window.

I smiled softly at him, watching him turn a little bashful. He was so much more different now than he was just a day ago, when he was flustered by my name and station.
"Well, you have been traveling quite a bit," I offered in a way that said I wouldn't tease or push him about it. "Do you think you'll be attending this one?"

I hummed a moment, thinking. "I'd...I think I would like to but," I thought of demuring at this point, but shook my head. I stiffened up, and said firmly, "I would probably be out of place should I go alone. I don't even have complete name to my estate just yet. However, if I could guess, I think I'd like to go with you, assuming that would be alright with you?"

He straightened up beautifully, the lean line of his form visable beneath his clothing. I drew a breath in and bit my lip, my eyes moving back to his face as we sat. "I wish I could," I said, my smile melting off once he spoke. I could feel my good mood slip some; Tabien didn't strike me as the type to try, get turned down, and shrug it off to try again later. I didn't want to hurt him. "I told on of my friends, the Duchesse d'Reloutes daughter, that I would arrive with her. It's her first fete, and she's anxious to make a good impression on everyone there."
I paused, becoming a little shy which wasn't my usual demeanor. "I would like to dance with you though, if that's alright."

I started to slip, thinking I wasn't quite worthy in her eyes. But in mere moments, she mentioned the reason, that of familiar duty, and chances are the arrangements had been made well before hand. I didn't despair then, and my eyes lit up when she offered to seek me out there, and with a gentleness I found myself quite fond of.
"That would be wonderful." I responded. "Azabel."

I looked up at him, my gaze peering just under the line of my lashes to look at him and gauge his reaction. He seemed alright, and I found myself honestly hoping he understood. If not, there was nothing I could do for it, but I still hoped he did.
I leaned forward a little, my hand gently reaching out to brush over the top of his knee. Before I could respond, the carriage turned, setting me off balance as we pulled into the small courtyard of the Laughing Parrot. "Oh," I gasped, my hand moving from him to catch myself.

She moved, and then moved quickly as I felt the small carriage shift. Without even thinking, I moved my body and caught her as she slipped. Next thing I knew she lay lay in my lap, fallen from her seat. I stared to chuckle lightly. "You know it's just a fete, you don't have to get to emotional over it," I said in good humor.

I laughed softly, but I blushed brightly through it, mortified at having fallen and doubly again at his good-natured jest. "I'll have to remember that the next time," I said as I straightened, my eyes going up to meet his. For a moment I paused in straightening to just look at him, then I realized what I was doing and blushed again, sitting back on my seat and straightening my skirts. "At least we're here, though, no more silly fete talk to make me so emotional," I said, a poor attempt at a jest.

"Alright, for later." I smiled at her, keeping thoughts to myself as she sat down again. Soon enough, the door opened after a patter of fete. I stepped outside into the light of midday, and waited for Azabel to exit.
