The fact that he might be grouping me in with the insolent group that he referenced to didn't even cross my mind, so when he smiled and excluded me, I couldn't help but smile back at him. I believed him, and without hesitation. "I'm glad you think so," I replied in d'Angeline.
"You're right, though. There's some smug, some insolent, and some who seem more towards normal at the least. There's even one who's rumored to be challenging the Duc of Azzalle for his sovereign title... I don't know how true that one is, though."

"Well, there's nothing I could tell you in that respect." I said back in D'angleline. Switching to my new favorite, Ch'n, I asked, "Recognized this language?"

I peered at him and frowned a little in concentration, trying to pick apart his words and see if I could put them together... but it was futile. In the end, I was as confused as I had been to begin with. "I'm sorry," I said in Eiranian. "I have no idea what you just said again."

answering in the same language, "Well, forgive me, just needed to pad my ego with that one. It's Ch'n, and probably one of my more favorable languages since I'd spent a good fifth of my life there. Forgive me?" I asked in a half jest. Hopefully she would understand the little joke.

The smile on my lips lifted as I tucked my hands in my lap. "There's nothing to forgive - it's just a game, after all." My voice took on a slightly teasing tone, though I honestly meant what I was saying. "I might have to see if you can teach me a little of it, though. You don't find many books covering the language, and less people that speak it."

"Funny you should mention that. That's one of my main hopes; to try and achieve some sort of teaching position here in the city. Ironically, I met a younger lass in one of the bookstores who seemed taken with my knowledge enough to be my first students. I may have found a worthy pursuit then, wouldn't you say?" I said in native tongue.

I smiled, replying in Cruithne. "I think you may have, yes. A shame, though. I had hopes of being your first student." I gave him a flirtatious smile, then let it dissolve to a natural grin, my voice holding a strong lilt of playfulness. "Truly, though, if you would teach me some, I'll pay you handsomely."

I flushed a little, doing my best to surpress my bashfulness with a chuckle. "My lady is playing me like a lute. In truth though, there is room for more, as always. Though..." I looked her over, "You seem to have expressed intellect as good as my own, I might say, so what more could a young man such as you teach you.

His blush made me smile a little more; I found it rather refreshing after the general cockiness of d'Angeline nobility. "Well thank you for your compliment," I responded. "I would hope that you could teach me more than one thing."
I paused, realizing how that might be taken. "Of the Ch'n language, of course," I said hastily, not wanting to seem brash and forward. "

I smirked. "Uhuh, ok." I'd made a good deal headway into my meal, and we ate quietly for a few minutes. I stole a couple glances catching her eye on her plate. It's hard to say if our gods blood truly run through the veins of the royals, or they are simply better kept than the rest.
"Do you prefer being homeschooled?" I asked casually.

The silence was comfortable, not strained like it was most of the time when you were with someone you didn't know. "I do, actually," I responded, looking back up at him. "I can't say I know what a classroom setting really feels like, though... but I think I'd prefer the one on one basis you get with a home schooled setting."

I raised an eyebrow, "Wait, so you've never attended any form of schooling other than tutors?"
That was interesting. I wouldn't say it would be any more or less effective, but there is something about being around like minded peers, all in pursuit of the same goal.

I kept my composure, responding back to him with a collected voice. "Private tutors is the education I recieved. I'd exhaust one, and get another, rolling on until my late teens. I've studied with other people, but never in a ... classroom type setting."

"Aww, that's....well," I paused for a bite, "I was about to say a shame, but then again, I can imagine nothing funny or educational by having a classman of a lower rank go and demonstrate your inferiority on the conquests of a countries army that you belong to...."
I looked around, and then back. "I think I've said to much."

I would have been alright had he not looked around and made a comment on his mouth running away from him. I laughed, light and amused, all the while trying to stop myself from doing so. "Oh, that's too much. Were you ever able to get you classmate back for it?"

I smiled, such a cute reaction. "Somewhat, if you count a pale of horse manure perched carefully over his door one," I said, taking a sip of wine.

I laughed harder for that, shaking my head at him. "Oh you didn't!" I grinned at him, watching as he idly sipped his wine. "Gods, I couldn't imagine that mess once the door is opened..."

"Oh, it wasn't the mess, though I didn't quite plan that one out quite all the way. The bugger took out some retribution on me still by refusing to wash, and show up to class smelling like the stables. Not the most pleasant smell when your trying to concentrate, I assure you."

I grinned, leaning in a little more as my humor filled me. "Sounds like you had it coming," I responded, "though I can't say I'd ever show up smelling as such. I'd find a much more amusing way to seek revenge... but then again, you can't grow up with three brothers and not figure out sneaky ways to get them back for pulling pranks on you."

"Well, I've shared, and I would consider you awfully rude if you didn't return the favor," I said both pragmatically and humorously.

I grinned. "Who's playing who now? I can't very well be considered rude." I flashed him a teasing look as I sat back against the padded booth support behind me, thinking. "There was one time that someone thought it would be funny to switch my small dressing mirror with one that was slightly warped. I still have no idea who did it, but when I looked into it it made me look as if I were swollen and bloated." I blushed lightly, though a smile peeked out as I continued on. "No one would admit to doing it, so all three woke up with ink in their teeth."

"Ink. Quite interesting...though, rather dangerous, wouldn't you say. I mean, surely in large amounts..." I looked at her, "Then again, your a clever women, I'm sure, I doubt you'd be reckless with such a ploy. How long did it sit with them?"

I smiled softly. "It wasn't in large amounts; a few drops each, enough to make them mad." My smile widened a little, and I shrugged my shoulders lightly, sitting back in the booth some. "It took a few days for it to wear off completely, but they didn't pick on me again for a solid week."

"Sounds like a miniature war of attrition and intrigue taking place in your small home. Hopefully nothing ever got out of hand, did it?" I asked, going with the train of thought.

"No," I said idly, watching as I ran my finger absent mindedly across the rim of my plate. "At least not when I was involved... I was usually spared from any rough housing that took place."

"As you should, I guess. Unless of course, I don't suppose you envied them did you." I said humorously, not to mock her. "Did you ever to learn the ways of the sword and spear, I'm sure one of them must have."

I shook my head, smiling along with his humorous jest. "No, I never learned them - it wasn't proper for me to. I read a few books on them, though, and watched my brothers practice."

"They're are many forms of swordplay and warfare." I paused, sipping wine, "And while they are indeed bloody and dangerous arts, there is something about practicing such a unique skills, in combat, that unlocks portions of the mind one may never knew existed. Did you ever draw such a conclusion from your view?"

"I can't say I ever got to experience the mind aspect of swordplay," I said, a little sad at that. I wanted to know what it was like, even for a few moments, but it wasn't likely to happen. "I know your body changes once you start, becomes more limber and stronger at the same time. Your senses sharpen, feet lighten, agility increases..." I let my voice fade off. "Is that close to being right?"

"Very." I nodded. "In the end, merely a heightened state of awareness. The body focus it's attention to parts that need more perception, namely sight, and sound, and touch in certain areas." I started to lay out what I'd studied, both on my own time, and during my training in the temple.
"In other parts though, combat forces one to repress senses so as not to serve as distractions. It's why the same cut dealt suddenly may feel less severe, or not at all once one is engaged in battle, one becomes resilient to the pain. But, it doesn't make one invunerable, and wounds still leave scars."
