I graciously accepted his hand and stepped out of the carraige and into the air of a late winter afternoon and moments later stepped into the restaurant itself. "I'm glad I decided to come today, I have really missed this place. Gosh, I still remember the first time I came here, too."
The doorman took our coats and we waited all of two minutes before we were seated. It wasn't exactly busy yet and as we were handed each a menu I had a mind to order a glass of my favorite champagne, if they had it and just for the fun of it.
Looking over the menu I smiled, they still had it, "I would love a glass of Rose Champagne." I told the waiter and to Fisher I asked, "Do you have a favorite? I've always loved this one but i'm curious as to what you might like."

"I don't drink alcohol," I told her "so I don't have a favorite. I have heard the Rose is good though."
Then to the waiter, "Just water please, with a sprig of mint." The waiter nodded and left to fill our drink order.
"You said you remember the first time you were here," I said to Genevie, laying down my menu. "When was that?"

I practically glowed, "It was a little more than three years ago, with my father. He took me here in celebration of my becoming an Adept. It was very sweet of him and I was certainly surprized to come here for dinner." I said, remembering sweetly that special night. "My father was an Orchis adept also and we've always been very close, my mother included."

"That sounds like a lovely experience," I said, watching the way she lit up when she spoke of her family. "Are you an only child?"

"Yes I am, unfortunately. My mother wasn't able to have another child after me." I said a little sadly, "I'm just glad she's still here, she had a hard time carrying me." But it felt oddly comforting telling him these things, as if the sun had suddenly come out to warm the day and I smiled.
Thankfully the waiter returned with our drinks; I was afraid my voice would choke up so I sipped on mine a moment before continuing, "I guess I'm a little spoiled because of it," I said at last, shrugging, "But I was never vain or arrogant or anything so I think I'm okay in that respect."

"Vain or arrogant and you would never have managed at Orchis," I told her, smiling. "You have had to settle somewhere else and that would have been a shame for there would have been less of your lovely smile."

I managed to contain my outburst of laughter into a moderate giggle but my eyes shone with mirth at his comment, "I'm glad at that, for I can't ever seem to stop smiling, no matter what I do." I said, with laughter in every word. I was glad to hear that he liked my smile. I thought it one of my best qualities and it was a relief to hear that someone else thought so, too.
I'm always told that my laughter can be hear across any room no matter how crowded, and I tried my best to keep it down. "I'm sorry, I don't know why but that made me laugh trying to think of myself as cannon for another house." I said, virtually bubbling with laughter. "It's just that some of the other houses are so serious. I would have to be quite different to fit in at some of them."
I did manage to settle down enough to order and handed over my menu to the waiter. I had selected a delicate steamed white fish with lemon and dill served with a white wine reduction sauce and tender pearl onions.

After ordering the vegetable quiche and asking for extra dark bread, I handed the waiter my menu.
"Some of the Houses get a bit of a bad reputation from their cannons and from the outside world. Not all the adepts of a House are the same. Look at me, I know the reputation Bryony has for being impersonal and living only in our heads, I'm not like that at all," I said with a grin. "I think the adepts should get together and make caveats to the cannons 'wealth seeks company, and we're pretty nice to be around too' "

"I totally agree," I said, grinning, "that is so true, and you are wonderful company, Fisher, and I have to admit that I was surprized by your animated personality, It's wonderful," I said, sipping my champange and momentarily looking at him through my glass, turning everything rosy pink.
"I'm very fond of surprises, and I've come across few who can surprise me." I said, setting down my glass and brushing a stray lock of hair out of my eyes.
Reguarding him thoughtfully I grinned. I liked his face; it was so very unusual that it made you really look for what so captivated you. And I did so, causually running a finger around the rim of my glass as a distraction as I listened to his reply and to make him less aware of my gaze.
He was fairly handsome now that I thought about it, earlier he had looked hurried and concerned, probably about finding that scroll of his. But now that he had relaxed and was more at ease he looked as if he was the cat that caught the canary -very satisfied, and very self-assured.

Knowing she was trying to distract me, some moves are obvious to one so trained in reading people, I let my eyes follow her finger so that she could study me at her leisure. It didn't bother me to be stared at, as adept you sort of had to get used to it. I had always been curious how Alyssum's didn't just melt under all the scrutiny, it must be rather awful for them.
"I am accustomed to being around large numbers of people, so it really does become a choice either standing out or fading away, I chose to stand out. I know that most Bryony tend to be standoffish, but in truth I find being more open an asset for finding patrons. It certainly helped me finish my marque before others my age," I said, then picked up my glass and took a sip of water.

"Yes you really do either fade out or stand out. I like to be noticed not just for being Orchis but for being myself." I said, "And it does draw more patrons, I've noticed that as well."
The waiter arrived just then with our orders and I grinned broadly inhaling the scent of the dish set before me. "Magnificent," I commented thanking the waiter and giving him one of my smiles as he left. For the moment I dropped all pretenses and just enjoyed myself for a moment, smiling brightly.
It is always such a pleasure to eat here and I took my first bite with obvious delight, savoring the flavors on my tongue before returning to our conversation.

Before sampling my own food, I watched her begin to eat. She really did take pleasure in even the smallest of things it seemed, and it was very nice to see.
Finally focusing on my own food, I took a bite. Excellent as always. There was something about knowing that no matter what you ordered, it would be superb that made this place both comfortable and unique all at once. I wondered absently if the owner was looking for investors. I would have to speak to him some time.
"How is it?" I asked her, rather unnecessarily, but to start up conversation again.

"Oh, its simply wonderful, and just exactly what I was craving. I'd been having -oh goodness, don't think me silly for saying this but I 've been dreaming of coming here again." I grinned, blushing slightly.

I smiled as I finished my bite of quiche. "It's not silly at all. Some dreams should be about things you desire, crave even if they are as simple as a well prepared meal," I said, smiling and then taking another bite.

He was right, of course. How logical it seemed comming from him and it made me feel more at ease hearing it too. "You're right," I said, laughing, "How silly of me. It is only natural after all." I said, taking another bite as well.
I paused to sip my champange and grinned, "How is your's? Satisfactory, or absolutely marvelous?" I asked, and laughed at my trick question. It was rather unheard of for anything from Desir to be anything less than magnificent.

"Absolutely marvelous," I answered, chuckling. "As usual, of course. I have yet to have anything here that was less than that. I have heard the chef is constantly fending off offers to become the personal chef to the heads of other nations."

"Indeed we are. It would be awful if we'd had a lesser setting and meal for our lunch, for even Désir just barely matches up to your beauty and company," I told her as I spread butter on a piece of warm dark bread.

I was taken aback momentarily at his comment and I paused a moment to let it sink in and blushed again. "Thank you," I said simply, smiling. Well, he had said it - he did find me interesting and beautiful. And it was such a wonderful feeling.
I didn't know exactly why but it was very flattering to hear it from someone other than a patron and I had to take a moment to regain my composure before continuing. "Thank you," I said again, finally meeting his gaze. "I'm really having a lovely time, and your company has truly been beyond compare."
I felt somehow enriched by his presence, he certainly knew how to show someone a good time and I was beginng to wonder what else I might discover about him.

I enjoyed watching her become disconcerted by my words. Not in the petty way of a Mandrake, but in the manner of eliciting a true reaction.
"Thank you, I am glad to know I haven’t fallen short on my end of things," I said, smiling.

I laughed lightly at that. "Not at all. In fact besides my father I have never had more fun with anyone else." I said truthfully, sipping my champagne and settling back to my meal.

"Thank you again, I am very flattered to hear that," after I finished another bite of quiche. "I am very glad that I wandered into the bookstore when I did, the rest of my day would have been far less enjoyable had I not met you."

Finishing my meal I pushed my plate aside a little and took up my glass for another swallow of the sweet rosy pink bubbly liquid. "Hmm, as am I. I was actually fretting spending the day alone." I grinned, "I just thought 'all this time and no one to share it with,' and then thankfully you walked into to my day."

I smiled, "I'm glad to hear that," IOnly a moment passed and our plates were cleared and the waiter appeared to fill our glasses.
"Could I interest either one of you in one of our delicious specials, today? They are; Passionata, a Passion Fruit and Coconut dessert drizzled with a fruity vanilla syrup and toasted Coconut; and Praline Cake, a Decadent Chocolate affair with a light and fluffy center of Cream and Cake." He said, handing us each a small menu to peruse and make a selection from. "We also have our full menu of pastries and tarts if you prefer, to delight your tastebuds." He finished, waiting patiently for our reply.
"Ah, yes," I said, grinning like a little girl with delight. I took a moment to look over the menu, but I had already made up my mind. "I believe that the Passionata sounds marvelous, that will suit just fine." I said, handing him my menu.

I didn't bother to look at the dessert selection, I knew what I was going to have, the same thing I had every time I was here.
"The lemon mousse," I said, handing him my menu. After the waiter left I looked back to Genevie. "I have an almost unnatural attraction to lemons. I had the lemon mousse the first time I was here and have never even bothered with any of their other desserts, no matter how divine they sounded."

"Hmm, I can understand that about you, you seem to know exactly what you're after. Me, I like to try everything, just for the sake of finding something new, but familiarity is also very welcome." I said, taking up my glass once more, a grin crossing my lips before they met the glass.
