That Sabrina and Christien had actually been poisoned from the bottle rather than their cups was something that I'd heard but I didn't know how much I was allowed to say about that either. Giving something away that I wasn't supposed to could get Eric or I in trouble. "As long as it's not red wine that should be fine," I replied instead, smiling a bit. There was no reason for him to worry, what were the chances that a vendor on the street would have a poisoned bottle anyway? "You don't have to worry, really, it's just me being silly."

I simply nodded. "Alright then." The brief talk of wine sobered me up and for a little ways I rode without saying anything. My mind was simply wondering what the future held. I chastised myself for thinking that way and turned my attention to the princess. "You know we could try mead. I've always wanted to see what that tastes like."

It was so sweet of Eric to worry about what I thought and consider another option and my smile brightened as I looked over at him. "I'm not exactly sure what mead is- something brewed, right?" I asked curiously, trying to get the cheerful atmosphere back again. It had been stupid of me to linger on something negative when I was out with a friend.

I nodded. "I believe so. I know it's made with honey and water. It should be pretty interesting, if that's what you want to get." I was intriguing myself with the idea. "Wine's a little to common now anyway I think."

"Then yes, we should get some of that," I agreed eagerly as the streets started to open up a bit more and a few small stalls started to come into sight. "Let's see what we can find, shall we, my friend?"

I nodded, smiling brightly again. My eyes began to scan the streets, though I didn't really know what exactly we were looking for. "See anything interesting yet?"

"Oh, there's always all kinds of interesting things to see, but nothing in the way of foodstuffs yet," I teased with a grin, moving my horse a little closer to one side to look across the stalls. "But wait, it looks like there may be hope! How do you feel about meat pies instead of sandwiches?"

I smiled and shrugged. "Sounds just fine by me!" I wasn't picky about food, really grateful for whatever I could get. So it looked like we would be doing a bit of shopping too, something that I looked forward to. Noemi had a way of making it, and almost everything we did together an adventure.

"Alright, then wait just a second," I said with a grin as I climbed down from my horse and went over to the stall. After paying for a few meat pies I had them wrapped in paper, then stashed them in in one of the saddlebags before I climbed back up. "That didn't take long. Now, onward to find some fruit!"

I grinned, my nose catching a whiff of the pies. They smelled beyond appetizing! The call for fruit caused me to move the horse on, moving leisurely past the various shoppes and stands. I wasn't really thinking of anything other than where the fruit might be, a nice change.
"There's a place there!" I said, pointing to a booth that contained quite a selection of berries.

Now this was starting to get fun and I smiled more widely as I walked my horse alongside his, looking around at the various wares and keeping an eye out for our goal. When he announced that he'd found them I laughed lightly and moved closer, stepping down from my saddle and going closer to the stall. "This looks like a good find," I told him eagerly, then started to look the varieties over more closely. "What's your favorite kind?"

I got down off of my horse as well and walked over to inspect the berries. There were plenty of options and all of them looked juicy and perfect. Decisions, decisions, delicious decisions. "Well some blueberries for sure, and then anything else that you might like."

"Alright, blueberries then- and oh, gooseberries," I said eagerly, looking them over and then picking up a small bag of each and looking at Eric with a smile. "What about some strawberries too, or are those even growing yet?"

I bit my lip at the question, thinking about it for a few seconds. "Um, yes I believe there are a few types growing now. Not many though, so they might not be cheap. I forgot for a second that she was a princess, and the second that fact returned to me I blushed. "I think they'd be delicious though."

"Then we should definitely get some," I agreed, looking over the wares and finding a small crate of strawberries. Handing a few more coins to the vendor I had some put into another small cloth bag and offered it to Eric with a wider smile. "Here, you can keep track of those," I told him in a cheerful tone. "Now we have some fruit and some meat pies- but where are we going to find some mead?"

I considered the question, "Well, we could always buy a spare keg from an inn or tavern, but that seems like overkill to me." I smirked, drawing from my playfulness once again. "There must be someone about who sells liquors though."
I took the bag of berries from Noemi and began mentally going over the various buildings in my mind.

"I'm not sure the horses would be very happy if we tried carrying a keg anyway," I agreed with a small laugh. "Maybe if we used a canteen they'd fill that instead?"

I raised my eyebrows at the idea that had totally slipped my mind. "We certainly could. It would be a much more manageable amount for all parties involved I suspect. So are we off to the nearest tavern then?"

"That sounds like a fair enough plan to me," I replied with a smile. "I haven't been to a tavern yet so that will be something new."

I laughed and shrugged. "Well neither have I, so it can be an experience we can share together." This was all turning out to be quite the little adventure. And the best part was I was certain it wouldn't be our last.

"Well, at least this adventure is certain to be successful," I replied with a light laugh, then looked around for a sign that caught my eye as I looked through one of my saddlebags for a canteen. "What about that shop over there?"

I looked over and nodded. "Can't hurt to check it out," I said. I carefully turned the horse in the right direction. "Do we want to get anything else while here?"

"I think that was just about everything," I said after a moment of thought as I looked over at him, running the things we already had through my mind. "Or am I forgetting something?"

I shook my head almost at once. "Nope that was it," I said in a chipper tone.
We stopped out horses and I dismounted and tied mine to a nearby post before helping Noemi.

Taking Eric's hand I let him help me down with a smile and a playful half-curtsy once I was on the ground. "Thank you, good sir- both for the assistance and helping my poor, silly brain to keep track of our supplies," I said in good-natured cheer before I looked over at the tavern, a spare canteen already in my hand. "Ready to go and take on your first tavern?"

I grinned and nodded to her, setting my eyes on the door. "Let's do it!" I walked with an air on confidence I wouldn't normally know. Maybe it was having a princess holding my hand that did it in some subconscious way.
I opened the door and inside found things to be about as I had suspected, somewhat dim, a bar on one side and numerous tables on the other. This one was a bit classier and had a minstrel playing softly in the corner. Several heads turned in our direction and I squeezed Noemi's hand for our mutual benefit.

As soon as Eric opened the door I looked around interestedly, not sure exactly what I was planning to see but wanting to see all of it anyway. It wasn't too bad, and not that much different than the inns in Serenissima, and I squeezed Eric's hand back and gave him a smile before I started over toward the counter, complete confidence in my posture. I'd gone drinking with some of my friends before I'd left and there wasn't anything here that made me hesitate in the slightest. "Come on, let's go over to the counter," I said without any hesitation, taking a step in that direction.

I nodded and followed her, my train of thought going from that of wonder to a simpler, go in, get mead, get out. We came to the counter and found a cute young woman tending it, dressed in quite a scandalous outfit that seemed in contrast to her innocent face. I figured I'd probably blush and fumble over my words if I tried to order, so I left that up to Noemi. Besides, she had the canteen.

Giving the girl behind the bar a smile I explained what I was after and handed her the canteen I'd brought in, as well as a few coins, and she smiled back as she fulfilled the request. Everyone else seemed to be going about their own business and that seemed pretty usual for this time of day, and it was only a couple of minutes later when the canteen was handed back. With another smile and words of thanks for the bar-maid I looked at Eric and cocked my head as I held up the vessel. "Now that's everything. Shall we go on our adventurous picnic?"

I nodded eagerly as we turned and began to leave the tavern. And it wasn't too long before we were back on our horses, heading right out of the city. I figured once there we would have plenty of time to talk about anything we like, so for the ride I kept quiet, enjoying the city passing by me.
