"I am... excited to meet your father and brother," I said having to search for the right word as I studied her work more carefully. I was no art expert, but they captivated me, perhaps because the subjects were so close to my love's heart.

The way he looked at the pictures, his eyes taking in every detail, made me both happy and a little bit nervous, though I fought the latter down. I never really thought myself skilled enough to do justice to portraits but I'd wanted something of them to look on and the family portraits hanging in the rest of the house were from when Laurel was only a toddler. A light flush came to my cheeks and I leaned a little closer against my love, clasping his hand gently. "They're very eager to meet you too," I told him with a smile. "I know they'll love you as much as I do. Did you tell your family yet? About last night, I mean."

I brought out clasped hands up and kissed the back of hers. "Not yet. Everyone was out last night, and still abed when I left this morning. But I am very excited to tell them. I think that maybe Alexei is knowing already," I said with a smile, my eyes now drinking her down. Gods she was beautiful in the autumn sun.

His lips across the back of my hand brought another flush to my cheeks, but this was one of pleasure and I smiled at his happiness. "I already started a letter to my family, but they probably won't receive it for two days at least- but I'm considering it as telling them today." I loved his dark eyes and how they seemed to soak me up, and I looked back at him with the same depth of feeling as he seemed to have for me, reaching my free hand up to stroke his cheek. "I love you."

The touch of his lips was always sweet and I leaned a little closer against him as I returned it with as much sweetness, feeling very secure and happy. I couldn't say that he didn't inspire my desire right now, because of course he did, but with accepting his proposal I had taken his code in this as my own. If he didn't wish anything further than his sense of decorum allowed that was all I would seek. Even still I could still feel the flush on my cheeks though.
Leaning against him for a moment longer took a deep breath and stepped away, squeezing his hand slightly. "I guess I should keep showing you the house," I said after a moment. "Where would you like to see next?"

She was so close to me, so wonderfully close and not just physically. All this talk about babies and families... It made it difficult to keep my cool. But thankfully she stepped back before I could do anything foolish. "You decide," I told her with a smile.

He seemed glad to be moving on and I thought I could understand why; we'd been discussing some very intimate topics and if they got too much deeper it might be challenging to remember certain boundaries. "Well, on this hallway is the main balcony, and if we continue down we'd reach my suite and the bathing room," I said in as light a tone as I could manage as I started to lead him out of the solar. "Or there's downstairs again, or outside to the aerie."

"I would like to be seeing the balcony," I said as we left the room that would hopefully be soon filled with the laughter of children.

Nodding at his answer I stepped back out into the hallway and started down to the large bay doors. I'd had a feeling he wouldn't want to see anywhere that could be considered personal, especially at this stage of things, so I'd already halfway intended to go to the balcony anyway, and the view was so lovely that I didn't truly mind. With a smooth motion I opened the double doors and swung them carefully open, showing the large stone balcony with it's waist-high stone barrier around it that overlooked the gardens and ponds, as well as some of the Royal Forest. If you looked far enough off you could even make out some of the other districts, and there was even a smaller table and comfortable chairs, as well as a spare easel. With a glance sideways and a smile I waited to see what he thought. "Do you like it?"

"Sometimes, when the weather is good and I want to feel the breeze," I admitted with a slight flush, starting toward one of the chairs and smoothing down plush cover over it. "And I read here at times as well, when the weather is good enough for it, or I just want to see the sky." A glance back at him and I smiled a little wider. "When my mother threw fetes here she'd leave the doors open so people could dance here, under the stars, and still hear the music and everything that was happening inside. Do you have anywhere like that in Ruskovia?"

"Yes, at the palace," I said taking her up in my arms. I began to hum and lead her through a simple dance, my lips turned up in a grin.

I was somewhat surprised when he gathered me up, but I was too happy to protest and smiled as he hummed and then started to lead me in an impromptu dance. There was a joy in him at this moment that shined straight through his eyes and into my heart, and I could only look at him as my feet moved in the dance without my mind really having to interfere at all. I trusted him to lead me in the steps, and everything else as well; that realization gave me a moment of perfect happiness and contentment, and I realized just how much I really loved him. "How are you so perfect?"

Her whispered words caused me to chuckle, breaking off my hummed song. I kept us moving though, enjoying the feel of her in my arms too much to let go. "Oh I am not perfect, but thank you," I said with a tender smile.

"You are to me," I said quietly as I flushed and leaned my head against his shoulder, letting the dance continue. If I didn't pay attention I could almost pretend that there were stars out, but even without them I was completely entranced. It was easy enough to keep time with the steps and I simply let the sensation of him being so close sink into my skin, the scent of him filling me and a happy smile resting on my lips. This entire moment was being turned into a memory, something I could look at when things seemed dark, and while I didn't know if he realized it I loved him for making it possible.

She laid her head against me, and the tenderness in my heart for her expanded until it felt as if my chest would once more burst with it. I began to hum once more, quieter this time, more of a rumble in my chest. And when the song wound down, I led her into a gentle dip, smiling down at her. "You are so very beautiful. Like a perfect sunrise," I whispered.

The moment was a sweet one, and when the end of the song came he dipped me back slightly, which I followed, trusting him not to let me fall. The look in his eyes and his compliment had almost the aspect of a true dream, and if I was asleep I hoped I didn't have to wake up and forget it. A flush and a smile of pure happiness were on my face and I caught his eyes with my own, and hopefully what he saw there was everything he meant to me, because I didn't have the words for it, and I leaned up to brush a faint kiss against his lips. "Can we do this again on our wedding day?" I asked in a whisper. "Dance like this?"

"I promise," I murmured with a smile. I pressed my lips back to hers more firmly, and we kissed as I drew us back up to standing.

As he eased me up I kept my lips to his, returning the kiss and bringing my hand up to stroke my fingertips lightly across the side of his face, then down his cheek and across his neck. Perhaps it wasn't completely proper, but the idea of not touching him was worse, and he'd told me before not to be sorry for doing such things. There was a part of me that craved the small bit of contact, though I knew it could go no further, and I was happier for the closeness.

My body began to let me know that it wanted much more than a kiss, but for now I ignored it. I was far more comfortable with the desire between us now that I knew we would wed and finally consummate our love. Or perhaps the rigid Ruskovian rules that I held inside me were beginning to ease. Either way, I loved her and now wasn't afraid to show the world.
Our kiss came to an end, and I smiled against her lips. "We're going to get married," I whispered, joy in my heart.

His reaction pleased me because he didn't pull away, and I felt a little bit of the self-consciousness slip away. At times I worried that I was coming across too strongly or behaving indecently, and at times that restrained me, but it also felt forced and a bit unsettling. Now I knew it wasn't the case, and sweetness and trust strengthened my resolve to do things the way he wished.
His words made me smile until I was sure I nearly glowed with it. "Yes," I said in a matching whisper. "We'll be married, and have our lives together, and a family, and whatever else we wish. We'll be together."

Laughter bubbled from my chest, and I spun her around again. "Oh Lessa, you make me very happy man," I said, laughter still in my voice.

I liked it when he laughed and my smile grew a bit steadier, the joy in me switching from a flickering candle flame to something more steady. As he spun me around I laughed quietly as well, then looked at him. "Well, it's a good thing to hear, since you're going to be stuck with me for some time," I teased lightly. "I don't intend to ever let you go once I have you as mine once and for all."

I was already a bit distracted, but I smiled and nodded, knowing he was right. If my mind didn't have other things to wander to then I was more likely to follow the more base urgings of my blood rather than my heart. "I can show you my suite of rooms if you want, since those will be yours as well," I said softly, squeezing his hand gently. "After that we can have lunch out in the garden again."

See her bedroom? Oh sweet temptation. I knew we would both be good though, we had been for this long. I nodded in agreement with a smile, and followed my beloved back into the place that would soon be my home as well.
