Part One
Summer; Ten years before Queen Sabrina’s Reign
It was the summer of my sixteenth year, a year that had brought many changes. After having a long discussing with my Prefect I decided that I had to open myself up to the other boys that I was in training with. My Prefect felt as though it would not do me well to be so withdrawn and though he respected my opinion on keeping myself guarded, he felt as my lack of openness to make friends would not help me when I eventually took on a ward. So I had, and it hadn’t been that bad of an experience, most of the boys were relatively nice to me and it didn’t take much to truly befriend them. The year after that had given way to new experiences and friendships, but the greatest change came when I met Lydia.
We were just outside of Montreve, a place and held interest for many of us in the Brotherhood, and there were five of us there to participate in a real life combat exercise. It was set to take place early in the morning so the Prefect had given us leave to wander the village. I saw her first at the market stalls buying nectarines with her two younger sisters. Her blond hair caught my eyes first then the deep brown pools of her eyes that seemed to match mine. I’d never seen any girl as beautiful as her, the way she moved and laughed, it was though she embodied summer itself. I’m not even sure why I went to talk to her though, only that I seemed to be drawn in. We introduced ourselves and it didn’t take long for us to fall into an easy comfort in conversation. Never in my life had I felt such a feeling, so powerful I felt like I had all the air forced from my lungs. I knew well that I shouldn’t be taking to her, that if the Prefect was there he would have been upset; we weren’t supposed to fraternize with the locals, and not with any females. Either way, it didn’t take long for me to loose myself and she took my hand to lead me off to her family’s camp.
“I’ve never felt this way before.” She said in a whisper as she pulled me into her quiet tent.
“You’re so special to me Fredric; no man has ever been as kind and soft as you.” She pulled me toward her cot and though I resisted, I couldn’t stop myself from following.
“Please Fredric.” She laid down against the cot a sprawled out, her fingers tugging at the laces of her bodice till it was loose enough to see the heavy swell of her breast but not all of it. Oh Elua I wanted to see all of it though, I wanted to see what I had been missing.
“I shouldn’t.” I whispered, but followed her onto the bed, lying on top of her but off to the side as to not crush her.
“You should.” She insisted pulling me too her. I could feel the rising desire course through my veins and end right in my groin. It wasn’t as though it had never happened before, a young boy who’s not allowed to vent his frustrations are likely to experience such awkward situations.
Never the less, I didn’t resist and before I had thought for much else her lips were pressed to mine and her hand was slowly making its way over my stomach. Gods it was the best thing I had ever felt, the way she touched me. I couldn’t fathom not being able to experience it again and just like that I was questioning my future as a Cassiline. How could one know the sweet taste of a woman’s lips? My hand snaked up to her chest and took my first real touch of a woman’s breast, sure in my mind that I would leave the Brotherhood right away. She moaned and it caused my heart to race and my future to slowly slip away. I think it was the pounding in my ears and the sound of her groaning and begging for more that made me miss out on the sounds of foot steps approaching.
“Fredric!” The booming voice of my Prefect made me jump and my lips separated from Lydia’s with an almost popping sound.
“Curses, my Prefect.” I said as I looked out the way of the tent’s opening, sure enough he was headed in my direction, and with a few people in tow. I jumped up and began to put myself back together, glancing to Lydia who was doing the same.
“Fredric.” He ripped open the front just as Lydia and I had managed to put ourselves together.
“Prefect.” My voice broke as I spoke, my body going stiff, my eyes forward as I gave him a Cassiline bow. There was no point in even trying to deny anything; I had been caught out right.
“Fredric.” His voice went lower as he stood in front of me, my eyes straight forward and unblinking, not at all daring to look him in the eye. I did however notice through my peripheral vision that he glanced to Lydia then back to me.
“Let’s go. Now.” I didn’t say anything, I didn’t even look to Lydia, I just followed, knowing I was in for some serious trouble.
