"Tea it is," I said, walking forward and pushing the door open, poking my head inside and practically dragging Guy along with me. The ambiance inside was quiet and sedate, so I lowered my voice before pointing out a small corner table that was empty.
"How about there?" I asked him, smiling with excitement. It was my first time eating out in the City and I was surprised at how much I was looking forward to it.

I nodded as I was dragged in by her. I couldn't help but laugh a little. I can't describe it but I felt I was living as a child again. "That looks like a nice spot," I said, guiding her to it and pulling out a chair for her.

"Thank you," I said, settling into a chair and reaching for a menu. "My, they have quite a selection of teas," I commented, perusing the list. "I'm not sure how to choose one!"

I sat down across from her and picked up a menu of my own. "Well let's see. I didn't know there were even this many kinds of tea in existence! What looks good to you?" I asked in a diplomatic tone.

"Hmmm," I said, running my finger down the list of teas. "Personally I like citrus, so this Orange Spice sounds good or the Lemon Verbena ... what about you, do you have a favorite?"

I smiled. "As a matter of fact I love lemon. I used to always ask for lemon flavored things as a child. It's not that I like sour, just the tang." I sat down the menu and waved the server over. "We're ready to order." I said in a firm but polite voice, the remnant of my war days. I then gestured for Noelie to order first.

"I'll have the lemon verbena," I said, and then added as an afterthought, "And a iced lemon scone." Then I looked over at Guy, waiting for him to order his own tea.

"I'll have the same," I told the server. I handed her the menu and turned my attention back to Noelie. "I wonder what else we have in common," I chuckled.

I laughed and tapped my index finger on the table. "I'm looking forward to finding out," I said, and I was happy to find that it was true. I did not make friends easily, and here it appeared that I had struck the jackpot in meeting someone that I got on with so well.

A smile spread across my face. It was so nice to make a friend like her so soon. I could tell we would be sharing many meals and stories together. "Well tell me something else and we shall see how we compare."

"Favorite color?" I asked, grinning across the table at him. "Mine is blue, and sometimes green, depending." I laughed then. "I realize that that's not very definitive."

I laughed. "I suppose not. Although it does so happen that blue is my favorite color as well." I chuckled. "Although my next favorite is yellow rather than green. So we have a slight difference." I grinned at her. "What else?"

"A very slight difference - those are pretty similar colors." I said, pausing as the server brought us our tea and scones. I stirred some milk and sugar into mine while I thought of something else we might have in common. "Favorite season? Mine is spring, when the world is coming alive again."

I raised a brow and chuckled a little. "I have no one favorite, but I prefer summer and fall. Summer is the time when everything is at its peak, especially early summer. There is so much life. Not new life but the world in its prime. I like fall simply for the colors and nothing more." My admission caused me to laugh.

I stopped in mid-stir, raising a hand in mock distress. "Oh dear, this is quite a big difference ... I'm not sure our friendship can survive it." I laughed then, shaking my head. "Ah well, I suppose it would be quite odd if we had everything in common."

I sighed and then laughed. "Indeed it would. I think we have just enough of a difference to keep life interesting for the both of us." I took a sip of the tea and licked my lips. "Hmm...Is there anything else that I should know about you?"

"Aside from my alternate personality that only comes out at night and likes to kick puppies and steal from the rich?" I raised a brow, trying to keep my face serious, though it only lasted a moment before I burst into laughter.

I smirked. "I have a hard time believing that." I then laughed heartily along with her. "Though some would say the latter is quite admirable."

Still laughing softly, I nodded my agreement. "I have often thought, while tending to the poor and less fortunate, how unfair it is that some people have so much and others so little. Of course, coming for one who has never wanted for anything money could purchase it feels quite hypocritical of me to think so."

I nodded. "I have never seen much need for money myself. Perhaps that is part of the reason that people say I'm do generous." I didn't saying in bragging, but merely a statement of fact. "Yes it does seem unfair, but at the same time, life was never meant to be fair."

"That is true," I said, sighing softly. "I have seen enough of illness and death to know that "fair" is not a word that describes life at all. It is disheartening at times, however." I sipped my tea and then broke a piece off of my scone. "Here, now I've gone and gotten all melancholy, how did that happen?"

I sighed, leafing into a smirk. "I'm afraid it was my fault. Therefore I must correct it." I took a sip of tea as I pondered possible solutions.
"Perhaps we can talk of future plans?"

"Oh, 'tis not your fault," I laughed, shaking my head. "I can do it all by myself, trust me." I liked his suggestion, and I smiled as I took a bite of my scone.
"What sort of future plans?" I asked, my melancholy receding as quickly as it had come.

I smiled back and folded my hands in front of me. "Well our future dinner engagements of course. We should probably have some sort of schedule or something."
I was glad I had met her. I knew that we would become very good friends.

I laughed, "Oh, I shall have to check my calendar," I teased lightheartedly. It was nice to feel connected to people again, for the first time since leaving home. I was friendly with the Priestesses of course, and the patients to an extent, but it never was as easy as this.
"It's funny how you can just meet someone randomly and then find a friend, isn't it?"

I considered it. Yes it was actually. "Well in the army," I said, thinking aloud, "It is easy as we are all in one common situation. But to simply hit it off with someone in the street. It is rather different, strange. But I suppose you never can tell what can happen." With that my smile grew.

I nodded, agreeing, "Yes, it's like that in the Temple too, because we are all there for the same purpose." I laughed and agreed with the other part of his sentence too, "Yes, that is true, sometimes I wish that I could control things a little bit more and then at times like this I am reminded that spontaneity can be a good thing."

I nodded. "It's very true. The sheer coincidences of life often bring the best gifts. Of course they can also bring heartache, but it's all about what we choose to focus on."

"True," I said, thinking about the coincidence that had brought Shiloh and I together, and the heartbreak that had occurred afterward. Perhaps I spent so much time in the Temple because it felt like a "safe" place where something like that would not happen?
"I suppose it can go either way, and one can only hope that it goes the right way."

"Indeed," I said. "That's just the way life is." My mind wandered to the death of my brother. A perfect example, I thought to myself. "In reality we just follow the paths people and circumstances place before us. Yes we have some choices, but we are not provided those in the first place. "
