As soon as I received Prince Delaunay's reply, I had the carriage readied to bring me to his home. Now that I was entering my third month of pregnancy, I couldn't be too careful. In my hand, I clutched Gregoire's letter, which I hadn't let out of my sight since he died.
The ride to North Borough wasn't long, and pretty soon, the carriage stopped in front of the very large and elaborate House Courcel. The footman helpd me down from the carriage, and a servant in Courcel livery directed it to the carriage house.
I made my way to the front door slowly, and knocked on the door. Another servant opened the door and motioned me to sit in a chair in the foyer, he would fetch the Prince.

I had been reading on a few things before I had be interupted by one of the servants. "Highness, Annette nó Fronsac is here." I nodded and thanked him then stood and straightened myself, soothing out my clothing before I went to go greet her.
"Annette." I said apon seeing her. "Come this way." I said gesturing for her to follow me.

The Prince clearly wasn't one for formalities, but upon his entrance I stood and curtsied anyway, before following him where he might lead. "Yes, my lord."

I kept silent till we reached my study and closed the door behind us then went to sit at my desk. I gestured for her to sit in the chair opposite. "I was very heart broken to hear of the loss of such a great man," I said softening my hardened look a little. "I've known, knew Gregoire since I was a young man. He was....he was still working on the deaths of King Ambrose and Queen Triselene." I sighed a little.
"I'm glad he found some one in the end," I smiled then. "You say you are with child, I'm very happy to hear Gregoire's legacy will live on. I have two children of my own, I hope that you will look to me when your child is in need. I'm more then willing to stand in for Gregoire where I can."

I sat gratefully in the chair. "I appreciate your words, my lord," I said. "I must confess, I am afraid of what is coming, and I am glad to be able to look to you." I held out the letter. "Before he died, Gregoire wrote this letter to you. I have not read it, but I hope it contains some clue." My face saddened. "Gregoire thought he had been poisoned by one of our kitchen girls. I had her removed and taken in for questioning, but have heard nothing."

I reached for the letter and took it, breaking the seal and opening it up to read it. My eyes scanned over it and I folded it back up and opened my side drawer to place the letter away. "I see." I said leaning back and steepling my fingers as I thought. "I'll send word to the palace's dungeon and see if they've gotten anything from her." I thought for a moment. "How far along are you?"

He said nothing of the contents of the letter. "Thank you, my lord." Curiosity nibbled at me, but I held back. "I am nearly three months along," I said. "The first three months are the most precarious, I am taking all necessary measures to keep Gregoire's baby safe."

I nodded. "Good, I'd worry with this unknown assailent posing a risk. Do you think they'll come for the child?" I asked.

I shuddered with fear. "I sincerely hope not," I said, "but I truly do not know. I have another child, a daughter bred in the Night Court. She is sixteen now, do you think she is safe from this plot?" The last thing I wanted was for Avrielle to get swept up in Gregoire's murder as a hostage, or worse, a victim.

I wondered if she thought herself a bigger pawn then I myself believed she was. "I highly doubt your daughter is in trouble." I said dimissively. "In truth my lady I think that the people that poisoned Gregoire got what they wanted. To silence him." I drummed my fingers against the desk.
"I will send the captian of my guard to come watch your home. His name is Maurice Voisin and he's more then capable of sniffing out danger, that is if there's any to be had." I sighed a little thinking on the situation, the things that were unknown and the things that Gregoire had died for. He must have been getting close to something. "If you have the room I'm sure Maurice would be more then happy to accompany you for the time being. I could lend him for at least a month."

"There is room for him," I said. "Gregoire had some men of his own; they are still employed by our household. I will make sure they obey Monsieur Voisin."
I paused. "My lord, if I am being too forward, please tell me. But Gregoire, though he came into my life late, was the great love of my life. I do not want his death to be in vain. Please, do you know...why he is dead?"

I sighed thinking for a moment. "Gregoire made his life solving mysteries that no one else good, discovering crime where others would not see it. He made himself a fair amount of enemies, and I fear that the last position he took was to find the killers of the King and Queen, and that he may have gotten closer to the answers." I drummed my fingers again, thinking of my old friend. "He worked with dangerous business Annette, I'm afraid that Gregoire was too well aware of the perils he would face. Even death."

I gasped. "The King and Queen? By Elua..." I put my face in my hands. "He was so brave, Gregoire," I said. "And I hardly knew..." I kept my composure, though I wanted to cry. "Who will take up his mantle now?" I asked.

I shrugged a little. "I suppose that's up to Queen Sabrina, it was she that charged Gregoire with finding the truth of Ambrose and Triselene's murders."

I wondered why he was so nonchalant, but realized he probably just knew more than I realized. "Her Majesty knows he has died," I said. "But whether suspicion of murder has reached her, I know not."

"Which is why I shall send word to her." I said shifted so that I leant onto the desk. "I've only recently returned from my trip to Kriti so I'm still trying to get my barings." I added.

"Of course," I said, nodding politely. I got the sense that this meeting was going to come to a close soon, but felt still no unsatisfied. I wanted answers, I wanted Gregoire's killers brought to justice, and I wanted to help if I could. I was still Night Court born, and a servant who doesn't serve is nothing.

I smiled and nodded. "I'll be sure to keep you abreast of everything." I said softly. "And please know that I'm more then happy to help with your child once it's born. I'm even happy to foster he or she when they come time to enter into court peerage."

"Thank you," I said, blinking away a solitary tear. "Truly, it's more than I could ask for." Gregoire hadn't lied when he said we would be well taken care off, the baby and I.
